Technical details

MUSIC/SP is a timesharing system originally designed by McGill University for use on the IBM System/360, S/370 and 4300-series mainframe computers. Designed for use in universities, colleges and high schools, it implemented then-novel features - such as fully interactive computing, file access control and data compression. It evolved throughout the 1980s and early 90s, incorporating email and web access.

At its peak, more than 250 institutions used MUSIC/SP. Today it can be run under the Hercules and SIM390 emulators.

Character details

General

MUSIC/SP-tan is depicted as a mature woman of average height, with curly, dark gray hair and gray-brown eyes. Throughout her professional life, she was somewhat style-conscious and always wore the newest and hippest attire.

A Montreal native, it is likely that MUSIC/SP-tan is culturally-Quebecois and a speaker of French. While she originally had trouble working with groups, MUSIC/SP-tan is patient, helpful, well-suited to multitasking and working with students. She is a talented classical musician, her favorite instrument being the harp.

While she has been retired for over a decade, MUSIC/SP-tan still manages to stay somewhat relevant by working with modern OS-tans, although she secretly resents them for supplanting her.

History and background

Family and Relationships

MUSIC-tan has one sister, VPS/VM-tan. Like the rest of the System/360 OS-tans, she frequently worked with System/360-kun, although it is unknown how (or if) they got along.

Theories and notes

It has been speculated that MTS-tan and MUSIC/SP-tan would get along well, due to their shared IBM (and Canadian) heritage, places at the forefront of networking technology and roles as university systems.
