Although of an IBM OS lineage, UMES-tan was not raised in the early IBM society, but instead had a background in education and working with college students, work she dedicated her life to. She mainly lived in Michigan, but also traveled to work with [[CTSS|CTSS-tan]], who she was a contemporary of and a friend to, as they worked closely together on joint MIT/UM projects in the early 60's.
