Technical details

Originally built by MIT Lincoln Labs, the LINC computer was later produced and sold by DEC from 1964 to 1969. A partial descendant of MIT's Whirlwind, via the TX-2 computer - which was used to develop LINCTape. LINCTape is a very reliable system, but was needed for its system to operate, and is hard to type on. Several DEC systems are descended from LINC: PDP-4, PDP-5, LINC-8, PDP-11 and PDP-12. LINC's design is entirely in the Public Domain.

Character details

General

LINC-tan has long, braided black hair decorated with green ribbons, straight-cut bangs and blue eyes, and usually wears black dresses with a lab coat. In her recent years, she also wears a stab vest reflecting the strength and reliability of LINCTape, which can have holes punched in it by a paper tape puncher without any problems.

An academic and research-oriented woman, LINC felt out of place at the militaristic DEC Military. She is highly intelligent with good powers of memory and recall, but always needs her planner with her to do anything. Despite being friendly and sociable she is sometimes hard to communicate with; intimidated by groups, she prefers to talking to one person at a time. Her experiences with the National Institutes of Heath have given her psychology skills and up until DEC's demise, she worked as a psychologist.

Like many OS-tans of the time, LINC possessed certain magical skills - in her case, strange powers over paper. This ability got her branded as something of a witch by her already-mistrustful DEC peers.

Family and relationships

LINC and PDP-8-tan were partnered in marriage by DEC management; while this wasn't a particularly rare arrangement, LINC and PDP-8's reaction to it was. They quickly fell in love and started a romantic relationship that lasts to this day. LINC-tan is the genetic mother of all the LINC-derived PDP hardware and software; she is also considered the godmother of all PDP-8 OS-tans.

Aside from her wife and some children, LINC's relationship with DEC's computer population and management was tumultuous - she never got along well with any of her peers at the company, and they never took to her. After the company disbanded, she parted ways with her coworkers in an unsentimental goodbye; today, she lives out a quiet retirement with PDP-8-tan.
