Although of an IBM OS lineage, UMES-tan was not raised in the early IBM society, but instead had a background in education and working with college students, work she dedicated her life to. She mainly lived in Michigan, but also traveled to work with [[CTSS|CTSS-tan]], who she was a contemporary of and a friend to, as they worked closely together on joint MIT/UM projects in the early 60's. | Although of an IBM OS lineage, UMES-tan was not raised in the early IBM society, but instead had a background in education and working with college students, work she dedicated her life to. By the time her sister MTS was created, she was in her last throes, as the UMES computer systems got shut down around the time of MTS's creation. She lived just long enough to meet the young MTS-tan, and felt resentful for being replaced while dying, but chose to reconcile with MTS-tan in her final moments because she felt it'd be better than dying bitter and alone like BESYS-tan did. | |||
