There we go!  Thank you, Oh Great Penguin God, for defending me.  ^__^

Can't sic OS/2-tan on him, though, since he drew a rendition of her and is now under contract not to be touched by her.  ^v^'
(besides, last time I tried, she fried me.  ^.^)

Do keep in mind that the Captain long ago said he'd love to install Windows 3.1-sama on his Dell XPS laptop (the one with all that red), so already we have people who would be really really interested in having their favorite vintage OS work with modern hardware.

While she would be released by M$ as a "toy" for compute hobbyists, the number of Windows fans FAR outnumber Linux ones, and (coupled with the existing library of OSS knowledge and applications vs what was available 15 years ago) 3.1-sama would turn into a dual-core processing, DVD-reading, server-running, 3D-accelerated uber OS very quickly!  ^___^

Case in point, the Linux kernel, is not fundamentally dissimilar from the same one released back in 1990, yet has been continuously maintained by a relatively small and loyal community to the point where it can stand head-to-head with any serious UNIX or Windows system.  Also, Apple recently released their old Darwin OS to hobbyists, and that too has quickly turned from "toy" UNIX-like system, to viable desktop alternative OS by its many supporters.

Another thing is that sooner or later, people will want to port "Open3.1-sama" to other systems, as they've done with Linux.  Imagine running "Open3.1-sama", not just in the laptop you have (no point in buying it with Linux preinstalled, btw, if you can install it yourself for free on any old laptop), but also in your Palm, your Playstation, your PowerPC, your ARM computer, your SPARC server, your IBM mainframe, etc.

There's a strong reason why OS/2 fans begged IBM to let her be open source.  That's because they know, as do many other people, that open source is a system's ticket.... to immortality.  ^____^

I already got virtual PC and im downloading 3.1 and msdos 6.22 through a torrent right now... she just wont do alot of modern things when i play with her.. tho my old games will work again

i've already used 3.1 on mac with VPC, and... it's really hard to use>_<

CaptBrenden

I grew up with it. I used a mac first but 3.1 seemed so much esier to use, so I changed to it

Heehee! I still have my old i486 Ambra PC and it still runs 3.1!
It's also got a dysfunctional OS/2 HD, but they never wrote the driver for my soundblaster card -v-

I remember installing 3.1 for the first time...
Lets see that's
*Counts disks*
3 floppies for DOS and 1..2..3.. Six floppies for Windows!
(Funny I still have these ^-^)

I grew up with Win 3.1 and OS/2 2.0 until 3rd grade, where I and a few others were allowed to use the Mac lab. After using/struggling with DOS and 3.1 + troubleshooting an unstable OS/2 2.0, Mac was such a relief! It was easier for me to use, and thus I started down the path to Mac fandom

I have to say, though, that OS/2 2.2 deterred me for quite some time, and it wasn't until I was in 6th grade that I actually bought my own mac ^^'

Everyone has their own preferences, and I'm ok with that!
Though I guess you don't have to worry about "Windows Compatibility," eh? ^-^

Do not forget that she'd get a decent multitasking algorithm. No more cooperative multitaking where one program can crash everything. And SMP instead of just dual-core support, meaning that she can even use those shiny 8-processor machines.

The Linux kernel has changed rather much over the time: It used to be a hack to get to know the PC Linus used. Some C files had as much Assembler-code as C-code in it for that reason. it was not preemptible it did not support several architectures, more than one CPU, more than one filesyystem... ll these things meant the architecture of the kernel changed rather much over the time!

Yeah, but even in the sad case OS/2 passes away, her filesystem JFS will survive in Linux.

Uhmm...what version of Mac were you reffering to? Apple OS7

That first statement of yours was about a certain usage of a MacOS(?) in which according to you that you find 3.1 is easier and simple. We're not against that, that's your thing-we respect that. All of us are into the more easier and efficient isn't it? I guess almost all of us here or at least 60% of people here had the chance to use 3.1 :) if not always or usual at least maybe in a certain time once.

You know, to be true...I'm not comfortable everytime I compare your first statement to your second statement. I don't find certain relevance and connection to the other. The first one seems to be a more observing statement, but the second one seems to be hateful and aggressive to the opposing brand despite of having many credits recieved.

I have the feeling that regardless you hate ALL the Macs, you have spawned an unlikely despise even though I'm sure you haven't experience the current new version/s of OSX  on a standard period of time-maybe days, months or years of usage.

I am just wondering and expressing my feelings about your posts altough, no disrespect of course.

Gotta be XP tan & ME tan

CaptBrenden

Every time i use a mac I rue the experience. I dont like the feel of it.  Every time i go back and try to give it another chance i quickly feel like I made that judgement in error. It has nothing to do with the brand name I could care less about that. Im the one that complains the most when someone rants about not using windows because of how evil microsoft it.  I dont like the way its used. I dont think Ive ever had a good experience with a mac, baybe the cosmos has just decended bad fate upon me, but thats the way it has been.

Ok we can live with that...Like I said, everyone of us tend to prefer which we think is more comfortable and efficient. Now I understand you're not comfortable as it seems to the Mac. It's ok my freind...

I think now I can see the reason. I think its a little bit ongoing success of the one you hate...and I think it's some Mac people too...

Ok man, the cosmos thing kinda freaked me out  ;013  ;043

but of course like I said it's all cool. We all have our own choices. I won't question anymore. I rest my case :)

We've been really away from the topic now...so its time to give way for others :P
