i had a SHITTY doctor as a child, to the point where she didn't tell me when i broke my hand and misdiagnosed me so many times that a simple sinus infection worked its way up to pneumonia. i switched to my current after that.

i think my mum mentioned the more invasive female procedures (not saying the actual name because i don't want to spend the night squigged out and this isn't the 18+ section) once and i immediately knew that it was a nice big NOOOOOOOOPE from me. so a lot of my doctor discomfort stems from that since, while my doc has proven time and again to be super-duper accommodating and whatnot, i'm always afraid of being badgered into procedures i don't want. it's always that one, though; when it comes to having tongue depressors in the mouth or plastic bits in the nose or ear, or drops in the eye, or needles in the arm, i could care less.

i will say, though, that for procedures where i need to be knocked out (such as when i got my wisdom teeth removed), i like to have a chaperon (a friend, my mum, my sister, my boyfriend), just in case the doctor is a perv. :\

Luckily school took care of the sex ed, because my parents never spoke one word of anything related. Those topics came up with them only much later in a bit difficult context.

be careful about that. i wanted to make an OS-tan box in pottery and the teacher said i wasn't allowed to because i didn't create the characters. fucking should have called the bitch on her letting people make busts of people/characters that weren't theirs. >>; (she was a shitty teacher.)

Sounds like what my sister put up with out of her church group; the head of it encouraged everyone to bring a homemade snack (Cookies, muffins, etc) to share with the group...but if you had the audacity to buy your cookies from the a bakery, especially the Walmart Bakery, they wouldn't let you set them out, because you "cheated" by not doing it yourself. However, he openly stated he'll accept Little Debbie snack cakes as "homemade", as apparently mass produced in a factory is better than handmade in a local bakery >>;
(She got sneaky, though, and would buy from the bakery...and bring it in a container to make it look like she baked them herself xD)

I learned about the basics of menstruation and sex as a kid but didn't know a lot of the details, luckily I loved looking at medical and anatomical books and was able to piece together a lot of things I was too embarrassed to ask my parents about.

That being said, I knew more about the biology of conception and pregnancy (sperm and egg joining, splitting into multiple cells and implanting inside the uterus etc. and basic details about childbirth) than the "mechanics" of sex for a long time. Finding out how that all worked was quite the shock...

@kodomo: i can see that, but i wish people would be a bit more leinent since some kids HAVE to eat homemade treats BECAUSE of their allergy. :\
(or are they going to say they can conjure up a decent gluten-free brownie? >>; )

@pent: that's kind of fucked up in a way; like the male teacher trying to enforce the stereotype that "women belong in the kitchen" or something. or were the boys subjected to it, too? :0
