So, I'm starting to think Wal-Mart was a waste of my time. I read that I can transfer after 6 months...but it sounds like the store manager doesn't want people transferring; as a coworker mentioned that a friend of hers tried to transfer from Dallas to here, but was declined. Also, it's unknown if I can transfer that long of range.

So, yeah. Might be best off getting out of there as quickly as I can and get something that doesn't suck as much :\
(I mean, my coworkers are alright, but the customers are just as bad as I anticipated. I have too much shit on my plate to deal with some old hag screaming about how she's going to get a manager to fire me because I can't break store policy to help her, or having to repeat the same snippet of info 2347625345 times over to someone who barely speaks English and none of my coworkers are around to take over for me)

Okay, story time.
Once upon a time, in 2010, a youngish Cockle decided to write a few CYOA threads in 4chan's /jp/. She ran with the requests, and they soon got very naughty. Examples are archived and shown at the Dirty Cookies thread in our H section. /jp/ was still run by Meido at the time, a janitor who was sometimes lax and sometimes fascist in her rule enforcement. I managed to go by unnoticed for about five threads, until one day when I tried to start one in about mid-2013, the topic was immediately deleted and I was sent a warning that such topics were not allowed. I had read that /jp/'s Meido had been deposed in favor of a proper team of moderators, and I felt my heart drop. Gone was the selective implementation of rules, gone was the blatant favoritism to Touhou threads and shitposting.

The spirit of the board was gone. I had gotten a 1-day ban and a written warning to not do it again. Guess what Cockle does about a year later? Tries to do it again. Same tripcode, same name. It was a test to see if they remembered. They remembered, all right. Thus, this image is born.



I'm not currently banned, it happened after I tried, but I just came back and tried to post on 4chan and that came up. I'm actually quite amused that they had record of me and acted upon it. Who knew a few community-generated stories could rustle the jimmies of the moderators that much?

srsly, why is it THAT big a deal....? 4chan births some of the raunchiest stuff on the net, SURELY there must be 18+ /jp/ boards. >>;

@pent: i realize this is easy to say and hard to do, but don't be so goddamn pessimistic.

according to my sister, transfers are not NEARLY as hard as it was made out to be. all you have to do is, when the time comes, talk to the store manager about looking for open positions in the area you plan to move to (so if you were going to derry, the 4 closest stores are Derry, Salem, Hooksett, and Nashua, in that order), preferably in your department but in all departments you qualify for (auto is out, but meats and toys are in). most people give about a week's notice, but you might want to give a month or two, just to be safe. after that, the store manager checks for openings, calls the store, and sets it up. she said Corey (the Derry StMg) did at least 15 while she was there (in AND out of state), and she was there about a year and a half. transfers are usually done after the 6-month mark unless there are special circumstances (such as one girl who was going away to college after 4 months there).

i know life sucks, and i know things are tiring and shitty, but you're actually in a job that you have the skills for and with people you like. the customers suck, but they suck everywhere, and you know that. besides gamestop, this is the first job i've heard you actually speak positively of (everywhere else was filled with creeps and weirdos). you wouldn't be able to move till at LEAST 6+ months away with your combined income, so just please, give it a try. looking at the reality of it, it's either that or PH alone (because man, there are no openings at the hospital and at this point there's no guarantee there will be), and this one pays better with better people and less grease. please try. my sister says it does get better. she went through all the same BS you are right now.

I've heard rumors about this too.

There was a time when 4chan basically had no moderation at all, and all kinds of problems happened.

But now that they actually do have active staff, its proving to be a problem in and of itself. Things just 404 for no good reason, based solely on what their staff feels like tolerating at that moment.

Pretty much.  Most of them are pretty fuckin' whimsical when it comes to setting or enforcing established rules/standards and practices for the board they very loosely "moderate".  That isn't how anything works well.  Frankly, the utter insanity from the Before Times is often a lot more appealing at this point.

Got to go learn how to handle snakes tomorrow.  Not going to make any cracks about Pentacostals.  That'd be insensitive of me.
