QuoteFufufu... Bella-san got some yesterday. ^__________^
No but seriously,... I remember when I used to get those too back when I thought having a giant FAT32 home partition was a good idea. ^.^
That's another reason why you don't need to defrag a Linux system -- the drives that CAN get fragmented are checked regularly (unless you specifically tell it not too). ^__~

So they can get fragmented? I didn't know that. Though it all depends on the filesystem, I guess...

QuoteIn other news,....

EXTRA EXTRA!!! READ ALL ABOUT IT!!!!

LINUX SAVES XP!!!! ^__^

Why am I wanting to do a comic where Linux-sama saves XP-san's life @__@

QuoteOr not.....? O___o

Or not :P

But seriously, I've been mulling it over about buying an XP installation disk...just in case I either, sometime down the line:
a) get a gBook or something and want to install it
or
b) buy a Mac, get sentimental for XP, and virtualize it

QuoteNow it works...didn't before  Server down I guess.
On the other hand, XP SP3 DO WANT.
(just a bit scared of all the shit they might put into it, like DRM and crap >

Yeah, this is the reason why I'd be a bit scared to buy an XP SP3 installation disk : \

I don't even update at all...

All HDD's that have regular read/write actions, fragment...

Hi all!  Stopping by for a quick visit,... planning on something a little more permanent tomorrow.  ^^

QuoteSo they can get fragmented? I didn't know that. Though it all depends on the filesystem, I guess...

Sou sou... ^.^
You remember a while ago I sent you the link that illustrates the difference between linear and journaled file systems.  On a USB stick, it's generally not a problem at all keeping it as FAT32, since you're not going to write frequently to it as you would do when running a full-fledged OS with lots of background services.  (aside from the fact it increases compatiblity).

QuoteYeah, this is the reason why I'd be a bit scared to buy an XP SP3 installation disk : \

Yeah, if you ask me, I'd much rather work with SP1 installation disks.  I'm more comfortable with its no-frills, hands-off approach.  :P

(and yeah, I can say that now cause I've had to fix quite a few Win boxes lately...  ^^')

In other news, it seems SCO's dream to continue to be a pain in the ass have failed... for now.... so guess she'll have to keep those bandages until her "benefactors" find some other way to keep her in court....  ^_______^

If I recall correctly, under add/remove programs there's an option to uninstall SP2; I haven't tried uninstalling it, though...: \

Yo all!  I'm back for visitation again.  ^__^

There's a new UMPC in the market....

http://www.portal.itproportal.com/articles/2008/04/09/hp-2133-mini-laptop-challenges-asuss-eee-pc/

But for the price and the size, it's not really THAT competitive to be honest.  Plus I promised myself I'd never look at HP again....  T__T

....

...And that's OpenSUSE.. T______T

........

Also uses a VIA chip, but at least they seem to have gotten the message...

http://www.linux-watch.com/news/NS3589706949.html

...granted I'm getting a feeling of deja vu, this is absolutely pivotal if they want to stay even marginally competitive with Intel's new Atom processors.

Hopefully that means I can finally get 3D acceleration working properly in VIA machines.  ^^

Smokey

Hmmmm, for some reason i have no problems at all with gaming on my machine...
Then again i do have nVidia... :D

So do I.  Ironically, Nvidia offers very good support for Linux, with ATI still playing catch-up despite its prior commitments.  Nothing beats Intel Integrated, though, in terms of shear stability -- in fact, my next baby will have an integrated chip...  :)

http://us.shuttle.com/kpc/index.htm

VIA, though, has a LOOOOOOOOONG ways to go....
Probably the reason why Everex chose Intel for its latest flagship product:

We have an HP hater in the house, huh?

Bah, I think I'm done with just about every major hardware manufacturer; at this point, the only companies I'd think about buying from is Apple or Everex. :P

*continues to drool*

Wow...I have a relative who may be looking for a new computer soon...he just wants it to check his emails and web browse, so I've suggested he look into buying a gBook or gPC...

Smokey

Or you can buy an old PIII, replace the coolers with silent ones and install Linux...Great for browsing/mailing, heck, a 486DX2 would do the job... :D

Mmmmm-hmmmm, and about time too.  Given Linux can make their crappy processors a bit more respectable (while maintaing the low price point), it only makes sense to support them as it gains more market share.

QuoteI never had a single problem with any Linux distros, and K8 uses ATI...: /

Well you've drawn all the main free BSD sisters AND their mother, so of course you're gonna be graced with "the devil's luck".  ^v^'

QuoteAwww, those KPCs are so cute

I just finished playing with mine!  It is literally about the size of a toaster (maybe yay wider) and very elegant.  It's also a little louder than I thought, but that might be because I got the heftier model (the K4500).

In all respects I love it........... but only after installing my homebrewed PCLinuxOS install, which works like a charm.  ^____^

Otherwise, the stock OS it comes with (Foresight Linux) sucks.  If they wanted Gnome, then Ubuntu or Fedora Core would've been light years better..... T__T

QuoteWow...I have a relative who may be looking for a new computer soon...he just wants it to check his emails and web browse, so I've suggested he look into buying a gBook or gPC...

It's a shame that the MygPCMini is so expensive relative to its hardware.  It's also a shame I can't recommend a cheap, small KPC,...

Although Foresight is kinda/sorta like Ubuntu, it uses the new experimental Conary package management system, which although technically superior to DEB/RPM doesn't have a cool GUI like Synaptic to manage installations.  Hence it's awkward, unintuitive and in desperate need of further development.  :(

QuoteOr you can buy an old PIII, replace the coolers with silent ones and install Linux...Great for browsing/mailing, heck, a 486DX2 would do the job...

True that, although then again none of those old computers are the size of an internal CDROM drive. :P

For the MygPCMini, you really are paying for the small size and weight premium more than anything.

Smokey

True... Old PC's weren't built with minituarisation in mind, but it's greener than buying a new one... ;010

I see...I do know that Linux is notorious for having worse drivers than Boston at rush hour!

*laughs at own joke*

Oh, to heck with all the technical aspects...what color it it? Lawl.

So it's not very user-friendly, huh?

QuoteTrue... Old PC's weren't built with minituarisation in mind, but it's greener than buying a new one...

Ah, makes me think of my 1998 Compaq Presario...I'm so used to my laptop (which is quite huge by today's standards, BTW), that using that thing is like playing on a minicomputer or something. The tower's like, a foot and a half tall and at least a 8 inches wide and a foot deep (I think that would be like 45 cm tall, 20 cm wide, and 30 cm deep, if I did my conversions correctly) O__o

Smokey

THAT makes ME think of my Dell Poweredge witch was a 8unit 19" server casing... (19" wide, about, 2ft high i guess and a good 2ft deep) :D

Now that's huge... ;010
And the noise... :D (about 94Db)
It had 4! 120mm fans wich had never heard of the term silent...

It did keep my room nice and cool, though... :D

Let's also not forget the 2 350W power supply's...
The 16 SIMMs............. Oh and the four processors.......
Oh, yeah... And the six (or was it ten, i got confused with my ProLiant) HDD's... :D

It was a beast and i loved it just because of that...
