*squeals with delight*

In that case, ma work is done!   ^^

Regardless of whether you use the goddess PCLOS-sama, or Mama Mandriva, or even the cute SAM-chan,... 'tis all gravy.  And if you ever decide to get an EeePC and put EeePCLinuxOS on it, you'll find it infused with plenty of Essence O' C-chan.   ;010

Smokey

HEHE... I have now (here comes a list... :D)

*Freespire LiveCD
*Mandriva 2008 LiveCD
*PCLOS LiveCD
*RIP Linux LiveCD
*DSL LiveCD
*Linux System Rescue (live-)CD
*Ubuntu LiveCD
*ClusterKNOPPIX LiveCD
*Fedora LiveCD and Install DVD

9 Different Distro's ;010

Don't forget to add the very latest vanilla Knoppix (I'm guessing ClusterKnoppix is still based on the old one).  It's almost guaranteed to swoon.  ^.^

http://www.knoppix.com/

SLAX might be an interesting diversion, since it uses LZMA compression for its LiveCD.  That current gzipped LiveCDs offer so much preinstalled software in a Live environment is amazing enough -- but with a superior compression method, the space savings is downright mind-blowing!   ;133

Smokey

ClusterKNOPPIX is designed to run ComputerClusters (along with CHAOS, wich i'll download too...)

Quotenah Fedora-sama is a full home-user desktop... try a LiveCD version sometimes, you'll like it...

QuoteYeah, Fedora is quite nifty. ^__^

Ran it a while back myself on a virtual machine. ^.^

Maybe I always thought it was a strictly sever OS because of its connections with Red Hat Linux...

QuoteBTW, it just won't stop.... @.@

http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=20080328090328998

True that...

QuoteI do have to say, now, that Fedora has her butt kicked by Freespire...  (Fedora doesn't recognize my rtl8187 wifi card, and Freespire autoconfigs it from a liveCD )

QuoteThen again,... Freespire's onee-san is also sleeping with some pretty bad company...

Hmmm...never thought about trying any of the Windows wannabe distros...mostly cause, when using Linux, I want to get as far away from Windows as possible :P

9 Different Distro's

Ooooh...let me see...since last spring, I have tried...

-Partition Magic (which is a partitioning CD)
-Puppy Linux
-BareBones Puppy Linux, though this was accidental and quite scary O__o
-Zenwalk (I have the Live and install CD)
-SAM 2007
-Ubuntu 7.10
-gOS

So, I'm at 7, 6 if you count the two Puppy Linuxes as the same, and 5 if you don't count Partition Magic :P

Smokey

But there's so much choice.....

*unnnnnggggg*

I WANN'EM ALL!!! :D

Okay, so I gave PCLOS a try and I liked it, so I installed it in my VM. I was a bit bugged by the small resolution of the screen, so I try changing it from its original setting to a larger one (I forget exactly which one). Anyhow, when I rebooted, X Window System wouldn't start; the bootscreen was verbose, and at the login I got a command line. Upon trying again, the same thing happened...

Yes, I think I screwed something up ^////^

C-Chan

Wait, is that vanilla PCLOS, MiniME or EeePCLOS?  :)

Well this works on all three, but just wondering either way since EeePCLOS is designed for smaller resolutions (800x480, naturally).  ;D

When you're in the login prompt in the command line, type "guest" as your login name, then "guest" again as your password.

Once you're logged in as guest, type "pcc" to bring up the command line version of the PCLinuxOS Control Center.

When it prompts you for your password, type "root".

From there, you'll be able to remodify your Display settings.

Select Display, then play around with the driver as well as the screen resolution settings. You'll be able to test this if you want on the spot.  If you get something that displays properly on Test, then you can save and restart your VM.

If you still have problems, consider switching to Xorg>Vesa as your display driver.  Not the best solution, but it will always work.  :)

Smokey

*Smokey tries not to laugh, but is happy with the way a LiveDistro "forgets" everything on a reboot...* :D

Wah?  @0@

It is true that the run-of-the-mill LiveCD saves stuff on the RAMdisk so it won't carryover to the next session.

But certain distros (e.g., PCLOS, Ubuntu, Puppy) can be given Persistence (either through a separate partition or a special loop image), so they can remember all your changes and settings while still remaining as a Live environment.  ^^

Smokey

didn't know that... i knew you can acces the drives and format/partition them or acces stuff thats on them...

Oooh my friend,... in that case you've just scratched the surface of all the groovy stuff you can do with LiveCDs.  ^.^

In any event, to build persistence, check out some of the guides shown here:

http://www.pendrivelinux.com/

My distribution,... EeePCLOS... relies on LiveUSB w/persitence, so our installer does that much more easily.  ^__^

Smokey

ooh nice, more knowledge... :D

And in th meantime, i found a cat cosplaying you, C-Chan... :D

It's just PCLOS. But I followed what you said, and I got my GUI back. I also played around with the settings a bit, and got a bigger screen resolution. Thanks.

I'm liking PCLOS. Right off the bat it reminded me a lot of SAM (duh). It's a bit slower than other distros I've tried in my VM, but I suppose this could be because KDE is a little heavier than GNOME and Xfce, right? Anyhow, I'm writing from it right now, and I posted my screenshot in the screenshots thread  ;010

Ooooh, so EeePCLOS could act as a pen drive distro, too...?

Smokey

DSL can, too... (basically a lot of distro's that fit on a USB-drive can be installed on one, i guess)
