QuoteOooh...if I'm not mistaken...did you get a new EeePC...?

Fufufu!  But of course, my dear Bella-sama.  ^.^

For testing AND marketing purposes -- once EeePCLOS has all remaining kinks worked out, I'll lend it out to friends and coworkers to show just how far you can take a so-called "cheap" laptop.  ^____^

Suffice to say, I have a lot of people interested now,... figure that if I'm crazy enough to get another one, it MUST be good.  ^^

(Plus a few of them have kids too.)

Oh, and for a picture of my darling new EeePC 2G-chan, check out the Post my Desktop thread.  ^________^

QuoteForgotten about you? We've been plastering the neighborhood with posters! We thought perhaps you were abducted by aliens. Or time-travelers. Or espers :P

Oh, feel free to let me be kidnapped by time-travelers....  ^.^

*lecherous chuckle*

QuoteUh...oh...Someone's been out partying...

My explanation's a bit more graphic in the EeePCLOS forum, but yeah,... you could say that..... ^///^;

QuoteOh wow, C-Chan, your a pig, does that mean you're a 1337 h4x0r script kiddie!?

Unfortunately, that means I'll be a script kiddie for the rest of my life.... T___T

Oh well,... guess I'll just go back to drawing.... -v-;

QuoteSo you mean to say, GNOME has the Mono-based apps built in?

Well,... you know how the new KDE for Windows let's you use KDE4 apps by setting up a temporary KDE compatibility environment in windows, or vice-versa with WINE if you want to run Windows programs in Linux?  Imagine then that KDE4 drivers and stuff were built into Windows, and WINE built into Linux, such that both would be able to run eachother's programs natively?

I guess that's more like what the Mono integration is like.

Granted, just as there are legal ramifications barring the other two scenarios, I can imagine that Mono integration is not necessarily devoid of that either.

QuoteHmmm....

Just throwing that out there, cause your skills are improving, and just like how you're having a strong attraction to NT's ancestors, I foresee you starting to get more and more curious of Ubuntu's ancestor, Debian-sama.  She's not as easy to use, and she's a lot more rigid about rules and what constitutes "free and open source" (to the point of repackaging Firefox as IceWeasel to avoid legal ramifications from the copyright!!).  But by GAWD is she fast, rock-solid and stable, and fully-loaded with software up the wazoo (in that respect, Ubuntu-san takes after her).  :)

Probably the reason why MEPIS moved back to Debian for its more recent builds....

QuoteWouldn't be the first time I stole food from a stranger's home!

And then she says I creep HER out for singing to my laptop....  @v@;

*inches away slowly*

QuoteOH MEH GAWD ITS A VMS!!!!!!!! @o@

OOH!  Is it no small coincidence that VMS-sama is peering over the window, with that glare of hers that says "use me or die as fish food"?

QuoteI answered the ancient riddle of "what happens when you put a Windows and Linux using, GUI-hugging noob behind the wheel of one of the most powerful OS ever built"...

...

Not much. At first I typed in the wrong password, which got me das boot. Upon typing in the right user name/password, I checked the system info (by typing "show system"), I saw what other users were logged in (show users), and then kinda logged out. ^///^

Chicken!  QUORK!QUORK!QUORK!!!  ^v^;

*distracts Bella while he goes ahead and huddles inside a bunker, terrified of l337 VMS users scoffing at him*

QuoteNope, VMS doesn't have time for silly games like RSTS/E does. VMS is a worker, not a slacker. XD

So when you really think about it,....... we REALLY nailed her personality good, didn't we?  ^.^

Well... Since were on the topic of powerful die hard stuff...
I'm juggling with the idea of learning a 1st or 2nd generation programming language. Seriously now, is machine code hard to learn? (if I'm going to learn a language, it better be a hard-core one... And I prefer Binary machine code over Assembly because it eliminates the need of an Assembler and lets you inject instructions directly in the machine)
'Cuz if I can master that, me and my BeoPup'll make a nice team....*rubs hands in delight*

BTW "mastering machine code" means "handling machine code without destroying the system..."  ;010

Yesterday I discovered what the VMS users do to folks who try to (unsuccessfully) screw up their machines...they more or less make hand puppets out of them XD

QuoteSo when you really think about it,....... we REALLY nailed her personality good, didn't we? ^.^

No, I take that back...they have a whole menu of games under a different username. VMS can run Adventure like RSTS/E, as well as a bunch of games that use very basic "graphics" you could say, made out of different characters. Really odd, actually, and I can't seem to play any of them : \

Oh but you forget, my dear Bella-sama, of the huge concentration of Linux Developers in Europe.  Hence,... we had the party in Monte Carlo.  ^^;

QuoteHmmm...I do have different levels of adventurousness, though...while I'm quite curious when it comes to historic OSs, I'm a bit timid about the Linuxes :P

To a fault.  ^.^

Their Stable repository is literally 3 years old, and it takes forever for new versions to be added in there.  Heck! They still have Inkscape 0.44 in there!  @o@

QuoteWhat? You've never ran out of pancake batter and "barrowed" some from a neighbor? Open windows are as good as an invitation, I say!

Oh sure I've borrowed pancake batter before, but never "barrowed" them!  My GAWD, that can't be decent...!  *C-chan's imagination runs wild*  @@'

Considering I'm hand-size, I'm sure I don't want VMS-sama to make me into a hand puppet.  Like being stuffed and put on a wall....  ^^;

OMG, those cell processors are WICKED!!!  ;010
Too bad they are insanely expensive... Besides I'd rather use the raw, simple power of a couple of quad Pentium Pro servers...(that's the fun of knowing a refurbishing company, practically free hardware for such projects :D )

Besides for learning machinecode you're better off with some old (free) 8088 than an expensive PS3 or an IBM blade....

And they were talking about extra processors on a PCI-e card?
I was thinking of OSAC OS on A Card... Put the entire OS on a dedicated PCI-E card with a dedicated processor and memory and leave the CPU and RAM for the applications....That should't be so hard; all you have to do is rewrite the BIOS so that it can recognize such a card as a bootable device...

Now thats fun stuff to be experimenting with... ;010

QuoteTheir Stable repository is literally 3 years old, and it takes forever for new versions to be added in there. Heck! They still have Inkscape 0.44 in there! @o@

Three years old?! Is this just a great caution when it comes to licenses and stuff, or are they just really...lazy...? ;)

QuoteA lover of odd games is another trait we can add to VMS-sama. Surely her most closest friends still balk at her preference of "triominoes" in lieu of dominoes. -v-;

Not just odd games. You know, the first time DEC publicly ran VMS, back in 1977, they had Ken Olsen play a game of Scrabble against it. VMS won, with the word "sensibly". People were astonished that the machine won!

Too bad they don't have a Scrabble program on their machine...:P

QuoteWait...someone's using PS3s to simulate black holes? I couldn't find the original article...

Yeah, they have about 16 PS3's stacked (literally) in a server room, connected by ethernet cables, and performing good ol' parallel processing (the kind the Smokesters try to build).

It is true the PS3's make [relatively] cheap computers, but given how many restrictions there are in using ALL of its hardware, its probably still more practical working with regular x86 hardware.  :)

QuoteThree years old?! Is this just a great caution when it comes to licenses and stuff, or are they just really...lazy...?

That depends on who's making fun of them, but I'm sure it's just overt caution.  :P
In contrast, the Debian Sidders update their packages SO frequently, they actually don't even use Synaptic (it's too impractical for daily changes).

QuoteThey're like rabid raccoons!

Oooh, wow! That site is great! I'll have to look though it more thoroughly when I have the time...

Anyhoo, last Saturday I was flipping though the channels when a show on the Discovery Channel caught my attention. It was called "Download: the true story of the internet", and I swear it could have been produced by a bunch of Linux fans and sponsored by Apple.

They talked about how M$ effectively stamped out Netscape...and OMG, did they make them look bad. And like a bunch of liars, cheats and thieves, as well. They used the term "Microsofties" repeatedly, and I think they called some M$ sales marketers "ninja terrorists" @____@

Needless to say, I was laughing hysterically though half the show...it's really worth a watch!
