The image is freaking huge, so I won't torture y'all with [img].

The story behind that MSpaint mockup was for a contest that I lost. The vision was a multitouch launcher/interface to work in a way similar to Surface, but without the $10,000+ pricetag.

And if you did that in MSPain(t), I'm really impressed.

Yeah, well, it primarily was just combining different images and such I had together into a mockup. My actual drawing skills... a bit better than that.

And the contest? It was to show ideas of what you'd do with the prize - some high-end HP workstation.

Everybody else was asking, primarily, to use it for CAD, 3D modeling, and gaming. Some bloody idiot wanted to develop a PHP chatbox or something - and he won the prize over this project, which I did voice my opinion on.

They claimed running SQL/Apache/PHP/etc was too resource-intensive, compared to something that truly was unique and would show off the true power of a high-end $4000 workstation.

Yep. I'm going to dig out my old trusty pencil and paper soon and possibly refine the design.

I did complain about why I lost (being competitive and all).

"The focus point is NOT the PHP code, but the MySQL usage on this project which this workstation does very well showing threading."

"Why when someone mentioned Workstation it automatically thought as graphics design machine and gfx?"
(Riiiiight, when they mention the fact of how meaty the graphics card in it was. A Quadro FX, IIRC.)

And... here's the winner's plans for the workstation, of which I haven't seen a word about even being released:
"Trojanowicz plans to use the prize to develop an advanced shoutbox that utilize visual usability with modern web 2.0 interaction and API to allow 3rd-party webapp integration."
He also mentioned in his entry that he had a "PC from 2005" - mine's from 03-04 (2.8 GHz P4HT, 512 RAM), and it ran MySQL/PHP/Apache just fine...

</rant></rave>

Back to GUI designs for me in the meantime... ^_^
(Those drawing and design classes back in my senior year have sent my mind into those technical-drawing ideals... blueprints, anyone?)
