Er...I'm pretty sure the 9600 GTS is a sped-up 9600 GT, since the 8600 series is quite a bit older...that, or Nvidia has a lotta shit to answer for.
YOU COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS

Usually, you can't compare nVidia GPUs for portables with GPUs for desktops.   For instance the GTX280M GPUs for portables arent directly related the the GTX280s for desktops.  The GTX280M is just a 9800-series GPU.  Kinda sucks, but that's the way they do it.  ATI doesn't do that apparently, in their camp, the GPUs are directly comparable.

I've just recently upgraded my desktop to Windows 7... I also got a WIMAX-enabled netbook from Clear recently and it came with XP, but I've currently got it triple-booting Windows 7, XP, and Ubuntu Netbook Remix (I wasn't sure if I would want 7 over XP on a netbook).... and then there's my older Toshiba tablet that runs XP Tablet edition... and I've got a portable usb hard drive that boots Ubuntu... and I have a usb thumb drive setup to use grub2 to boot from either an ubuntu netbook remix or tinycore iso :D

Have a new system with a Athlon II x2 (2x2800Mhz), 3GB RAM,250GB Western Digital HDD wich now refuses to boot windows 7, windows startup recovery, windows setup and Linux Live-CDs since i installed an ATI Radeon 4600...

So i have to buy a new system and use this one with it's onboard videocard as an HTPC.

THAT'S why you don't buy ATI!

Well, the reason i don't/didn't use the 8800GT(X) is because they are soldered poorly...
But i use ATI cards nowadays because the mainboards i use them on have AMD/ATI chipsets... ^_^

Heh, yep. I have an AM2+ board with aparently a nVidia chipset too.
Maybe that explains why it won't boot with the ATI card... ^_^
