What computer/OS are you using?

Certainly... A storage media loses some of it's perks if it's lifetime is limited... (like DVDs/CDs...)
I dont tell you how to tell me what to do, so dont tell me how to do what you tell me to do... Bender the Great) :/

;001 True. Everybody who know about MRAM demand MRAM-based SSD, just like they demand a bottle of sake!

MRAM in SSD will be optimized so it can handle from 22 MB/s to 1.4 GB/s writing speed, exploiting SATA's real glory: SPEED!!

;001 Yeah, when I get one, I will caress it like a woman!
;025 Now, Bowser... What can I do with you...

Smokey

Hang on... SATA already reaches (theoretical) speeds of up to 3Gb/s...

So in the beginning it will be smashed to bits by SATA with performance, and it will have to sell itself on durability... and noise, because SSDs are silent drives...

Dr. Mario

Nope. Not a chance. SATA didn't reach 3Gb/s. What's left of usable bit from rapidly spinning (10,000+ RPM) hard drive is just laughable 78 Mb/s. What about the others? The other chunk of data are mostly NCQ pre-requests, S.M.A.R.T. data, and "data pads" (similar to what Ethernet modem chipset do to runt signal it's about to fire).

Instead, SSD were made for few reasons, one being, filling the gap in SATA bandwidth (like I said, regular ones haven't and probably never will reach this kind of bandwidth.)

jeffs2009

custom built, amd quad core 2.6ghz, 4gb ddr2 800 ram, 1.5tb total sata hdd storage, evga 9800gtx+, xp 64 bit

Smokey

That is quite a machine uyou have there...

(crap, ASUS needs to hurry with those AM3 boards...)

Not bad. That's pretty good for a custom computer, jeffs2009.

DDR2 is so last half-decade, man!
YOU COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS

Smokey

DDR3 has higher latency... so i prefer DDR2 (if it's hooked up to a proper memory controller, like the on-die ones AMD has...

Yeah, gotta agree with you, Smokey. I will rather stick to DDRII or XDR memories. Well, for game, or photoshop, I would be better off using XDR memory, which is not out for public usage yet, though. Have used it, liked it.

Sometime I think some company are wasting their time using DDR 3 if they're looking for horsepower... =P

(on side notice, I don't care if Rambus is a patent troll, DDR need to be replaced pronto. Phenom Agena did indeed suffered RAM bottleneck, just by using DDRII.)

Dr. Mario

Yeah. DDR (all types) are now limited on their bandwidth, which is why both Intel and AMD are going to sell their GPUs with XIO (XDR IO) controller PHYs already on-die. Same for their CPUs (remember, XIO controller was designed to support DDR 2/3 and XDR, so CPUs can use either use Socket AM3 or B, depending on where you got it from, AMD or Intel.)
;025 Now, Bowser... What can I do with you...

Smokey

Yeah, i read about that...They said that AM3 processors supported both DDR2 and DDR3...They didn't write about XIO though, i guess AMD didn't say anything about that because that is at this moment irrelevabnt...

Dr. Mario

I suspect Phenom II already have XIO controller, what the hell - I will find out... My own OS already have XDR memory / controller driver so it would be able to tell what kind of RAM controller, regardless of RAM type installed (RAM will be dealt with after controller is fully calibrated.)

And I doubt G34 will support DDR3 any longer (it will support both DDR3 and XDR anyways. Can't waste sockets.)
