Well, of course getting one with the same amount of space would crave a sky-high price, but the smaller variants like 32gb disks aren't all that rage. You'd probably be able to get them for some 6-700$, or something. I don't know for sure though ^^

yeah, I think they would probobly get the cheaper much larger drives and treat them as disposable.  They are in cars after all, police cars of all things, and things happen to those.  Best not load it with the most top of the line equipment.

True. But what about the MTBF of flash chips? I mean, it's only good for one millions of RW (Read and Write) cycle. Still tough and easy on power consumption. (Don't worry about flash chips' cons, the Magnetic RAM is catching up now. It would still be nice to have a MRAM-based SSD right now, anyways.)

Yes , also those SSD disks have a limited lifespan.
Here are the write cycles counted. Ca 500.000 â€" 1.0000000 cyles per cell is the standart now.
The read only aces  is unlimited.

If you write data on a SSD disk a controller distribute the date tru the cells , so that all of them get the same amount of cycles, also each SSD has a spare capacity of 2-3 %, if the controller recocnize a cell is damaged he activates a spare cell. Everything goes automatic.

If you use your computer yust for office stuff , the disk maybe survive 20 â€" 35 years, but if you are playing , downloading and installing a lot it goes arround 5 years.

I also was looking for a SSD rep for my Notebook , but they are still expensive and have a insufficient capacity.

So I yust put a new 2,5” HD with 250GB ( Samsung ) inside

I am using my desktop again, and boy do i love having access again to my 1.2TB of data... What a difference a $15 keyboard makes...  ;046 A couple dozen little key-eys...

Anyways, a safer bet for HDDs is about 20-25 years... and for my disks that would be some 2-3 years, since they get used very intensively... As for the conditions... I have a very nice case, with my MoBo mounted upside-down, PSU in the bottom and a 120mm, 2 80mm, a 140mm and a 60mm fan for the heatpipe cooling on the chipset so temps are Mobo 33C, CPU 31C (cooled by a 120mm six-fold heatpipe)

;070  Be careful, if you have Magnetic RAM-based SSD. Don't bring any magnet near the RAM chips - if you expect it to happen, PUH-leeese back it up! Anyways, it would be encased in magnetic heatsink to protect the MRAM, but I'm still taking a precaution.

Although, MRAM SSD won't be out sooner, regular hard drive is still good for the video edition and 3D modeling, since it have constant demand on hard drive.

Oh, the i think a good 10/15.000RP/M SATA RAID setup (yay, WD :D) can keep up with demand for the time being... Cuz if i remember correctly SSDs are a bit slower on writing than a standard SATA300 disk @7200RP/M...

Also, I only have an Athlon X2 4800+ with 4GB of ram (god i loooove my ram, i can run a game like the sims/simcity and then alt-tab to the forum without a worry ^_^), so i'll wait for ASUS to bring out a nice AM3 board here and buy that (AM2 is supported by AM3, right? cuz i know AM2+ is...), plus my GFX need updating since even 2 GF8500s in SLI are obsolete now...and last but not least (if i have cash again :D) i'll get me a nice PhenomQuadcore... ^_^

BTW, I LOVE AMD multicore! Although I admit that I have Core i7 setup too (for GO64 with Intel x86 driver modelings.) Certainly, Intel have learnt to model Nehalem after Phenom, after all.

Flash-based SSD is much slooower, but MRAM ones are freaking fast! (MRAM is based on SRAM technology, only with magnetic memory cells.)

Smokey, don't feel bad. Intel Core i7 that I own, is for software developmental. (Yes, I'm also planning to develop GO64 AIOS firmware for THIS processor too.) Anyways, I also used peltier cooling on this CPU, because I want every single PC I own to last longer.

And MRAM is still a infant technology, being made on 250nm lithography, although very few foundry did got away with 90-65nm lithography. One, being at my work, did got away with 45nm Hi-k Metal Gate process, yielding 32GB a die (in testing stage)

Well, intel has it's pluses...
And on a similar, life-span note: my ASUS AI Boost just told me that I've overclocked my CPU by 125MHz (did that ages ago and forgot all about it :D), she's running nice and stable and more importantly, cool aswell...;010....
But when i get a new MoBo/CPU i'll push this baby to her limit... ;006

Speaking of wich, back to the topic, i don't doubt that MRAM is far away, wouldn't be surprised to see it this/next year in the store or read about it in the mags...

Especially true. It's only just beginning to have its own games, versus other solid state memory chip types.

MRAM have totally unlimited read and write access, which makes it great for SSD.
