Bella's OS-tan Artwork Thread

Speaking of my magical time-managment...look what the cat draged in! A chibi Minix VMD-tan, SharpOS-tan, and EPOC-tan. Due to a lot of speedy corner-cutting, I got each character done in around 45 minutes...



I should note, there are a lot of references to the "landshark" Saturday Night Live skit in this picture. The DUN...DUN...DUH...DUH... is a reference to the famous Jaws score.

Some semi-scary news about the semi-scary SharpOS: while the bootscreen may show a rubbery looking shark, the SharpOS mascot is in fact, a chick. No, not the girl kind. A baby bird.

So I was faced with a difficult decision. Do I reference the mascot in SharpOS-tan's design? Because, I am, by personal law, bound to love things with wings. And I don't want to love SharpOS-tan, I really, really, don't. Not to mention wings usually signify grace, freedom and loftiness, traits SharpOS-tan is desperately lacking in. But it's just too funny to pass up...maybe they aren't real wings, and are just a part of the costume.

Now I know how C-Chan felt when faced with the thought of a giant Mainframe Windows-tan...O__o

Not much to say for Minix VMD-tan, she's Minix-sensei's tanuki-girl daughter (making her something of a step-sister to Linux-sama, I suppose) Even though she's still young, she's quite a bit taller than mom (Minix VMD is twice as big as Minix), and enjoys dressing up quite a bit (VMD supports X Window System). Keeping in with the tanuki theme, she's very mischievous and sprightly, but even she doesn't know what the hell is going on with SharpOS-tan.



As for EPOC-tan, EPOC is an OS originating in the late 80s/early 90s. It was used in PDAs, and is now implemented in data collection scanners; it was quite ahead of its time, and Psion PDAs running EPOC are still sought after on the second-hand market. EPOC also has features based on VMS, and is an ancestor of Symbian OS. Legend holds EPOC is a acronym for Electronic Piece Of Cheese. Thus the cheese.

EPOC-tan is a proud CIOST member. Not much to say right now, but she's friends with VMS-sama. While very pretty, she's also very tough...her weapon of choice is some sort of high-energy radiation gun. Not a ray-gun per se, however; it uses microwaves (or something like that) to subdue any potential enemies. The inspiration came from EPOC's use in data collection scanners...

AAAAAAAAAAAH! Darn... I'm going to be feeling this pain all into next week... AAAAAAAAAAAH...

I had to go back and read some of our ideas for VxWorks-tan, cause honestly I had forgotten I bit about her. I was going to feature her with an ethernet cable whip (like in my preconcept sketches), C-Chan had suggested she use some sort railgun...I had never even heard of these before, until reading a bit about the concept on Wikipedia. With my love of all things electromagnetic, this had to be added.
Course, I kinda coped out and made it look rather like a normal rifle. What, pix of railguns are in short supply

As per C-Chan's suggestions, eCOS-tan is based loosely on Tifia and Amazon Cammy...though, more the former than the later I think.

There are so many new OS-tans in here (and some are frightening!).

So much for Bella Day,... more like "Bella Week".  Sorry sorry,... have had a bit of a rough time recently.  I'm still only able to pop in the occasional guerrilla post.  ^^'

Let's take it from the top, shall we?  ^__~

But I have always tried to maintain my own style...but I don't want to lent that get in the way of my "advancement". I think I have gotten this far as an artist by constantly trying to learn new techniques and use new styles...

And far you have.  Sorry I'm only now just chiming in on that. ^__^

I regret to inform you I know of no funky dances that CTSS-sama would have taken part in. But I am happy you got such a laugh out of it

Then again,... I did my drawings for my brother relatively quickly,... so doubt my lack of fast drawing is a problem with a "slow-down" as much as it is just a shortage of inspiration.  ^^;

Assuming SharpOS-chan is equally juvenile, supposing she has the same penchant for odd "chimeras"?  In this case, a super, man-eating, sharp-toothed shark,... with baby chick wings.  ^^;

Regarding her depiction, the drawing itself is standard-issue chibiness,... but I do love the bit of action-lining on her hands.  Very clever way of depicting motion.  ^__^

Lovable job brining Minix VMD-tan to life!  Hair is short, but that middle bang is just dynamite.  She has a cute bushy tail I can conveniently pull on. (Oh, did I tell you I'm a professional tail puller?  Only time where I do not practice the Golden Rule... ^.^)

And naturally, the expression on her face is priceless.  ^___^

Don't really see her mingling with Linux-sama much, but I'd love to see some interaction between the two at least once.  ^.^

I imagine she has some shape-shifting abilities too, and pretty much behaves like a VISIBLE Mac System 5-tan.  ^__^

BWAHAHA!!!!!!!  So instead of POS, we can now call things POC and get away with it.  I'm already loving Mama Symbian!  ^.^

Image-wise, she's quite the sexy chibi.  She has the standard-issue double bangs, coupled with rather non-standard lateral pigtails (not unlike FreeBSD-tan's ^^).  Her face exudes confidence (as well as a fun-loving edge), and her dress has a kind of Lara Croft sleek to it (minus the eventual pandering to an outdated male audience).

Ah-ha!  A quality fighter, and loyal to VMS-sama at that!  The CIOST certainly need a few more of those, as much of the current roster makes it hard to believe that the Unices haven't simply just barreled through the CIOST forces like so much tinfoil.  ^___^'

I did notice that their hands and feet are ovals themselves.  Course, in that respect I might be even MORE of a corner cutter, since I usually just leave them as pointy nubs.  ^.^'

Thank you thank you thank you THANK YOU for drawing these two beauties.  It's nice that we finally have some preconcepts of VxWorks-tan and eCOS-tan to work with, now that Baka C-chan failed to provide them, and thus fails at life in general.  ^^;

VxWorks-tan's attire looks like it will fit the role perfectly, although the cool visor and her presumed athletic physique absolutely BEGS for a full-sized pose of her.  ^^

The rail gun is actually rather small and still somewhat gun-like, though.  Understandbly, we're basing this on a mainly non-existant weapon (the portabble ones at least) -- but given how they operate, I would say the barrel should be at least twice as long as it is now (yes, even in its retracted state), and be composed more of a metal frame rather than a perfect tube so that it ends up looking a bit like a thin, coiled gattling gun.

The depiction of eCOS-tan, though, is flawless in every way shape or form.  EVERY element I've envisioned in her is present, plus the dress you made rocks (certainly blows away anything I could've dreamed to come up with).  The boots should have a bit of a futuristic edge to it,... perhaps something akin to the silver brass knuckles she wears over her hands.  ^.^

Though young, she looks ready and willing to kick something serious,...!  ^^

Sounds about right...after all, SharpOS is quite a chimera itself...a FOSS OS based on an MS-made language.

Somehow I think she and Linux-sama would be okay friends; I mean, they really don't hang in the same circles, but when they get together I'm sure they're very friendly with one another.

The hair I went a bit wild with. Basically she has the two bangs in the front, two longer locks of hair on each side, and her hair is cut short in the back. The outfit I kinda threw together, but I wanted it to look very futuristic and sleek.

Hey, they're a tough lot. But I figured EPOC-tan would have to like VMS-sama quite a bit, as EPOC took some design cues from VMS

Yep, I took some inspiration from that after seeing a news story about it--freaky, it's like a big outdoor microwave oven. XD

Yeah but in my chibis, I use ovals for the legs, arms and sometimes heads, too.
