QuoteWell, I've been working on this bit by bit for the past couple of weeks...

I call it, Solaris-san's Adventures Through the Magnifying Glass!

Or, if you perfer...

-It's a Damn Small World
(play on "it's a small world")

-Star-what the fsck-'s?!
(play on Starbucks)

-I Had a Dream there were Damn Smalls in my Coffee
(reference to that verse from Your So Vain)

And then I tried to come up with a title referencing Black Coffee in Bed, but ran out of ideas. Drats. :P

EXCELLENT!  BEAUTIFUL!  MARVELOUS!  EXTRA-ORDINARY!!  ^V^

(and love the clever puns..)

.....

It just seems to be missing something....  '__'

...

Can't seem to put my hoof on it....  -___-

QuoteAaand, something I made in about a half hour for fun...

BWAHAHAA!!!!!  Yeah come to think of it, Infinity-san made a Neptune-tan, but no Odyssey-tan.  Better late and cute, than never and.... cute....  ^____^
I love how you improvised the mini narrative!  ^v^

In any event, already passed through this thread today, so I'll save the rest for later.  Still got some rounds left today.  ^.^

Bella

How did I miss this? It would seem that C-Chan slipped some more response into that post without me seeing it.

QuoteOh noes... I started something. ^^'

Thanks to you, we have uncovered the many fascinating talents of the Goddess :P

QuoteAbout the forcefield,... this is a bit of "borrowing" from one of her inspirational characters, but it needn't be restricted to defending herself. I imagine she can also project forcefields on other people -- in part to trap them, but also to use her other magical crafts she's picked up over the years to project another "world" inside them (kind of like psychically-produced holography). She could subject an offender into a nightmarish world to inflict even more psychological harm -- or she could use it for the peacefully-purpose of hands-on training (almost Matrix-style, but not quite since it wouldn't be limited to just the mind).

This takes the phrase "mind game" to a whole new level...

Fire, heat, forcefields, psychically-produced holography used to trap or torture her enemies and produce Matrix-style training simulations...

Oh man...I realized Unix-sama was scary, I didn't know just how much so @____@

QuoteIOW,... her's. No wonder she likes that holiday.... ^.^

Or, she could just order one...

QuoteExcellent!!! THAT's the kind of easter eggs that make legends!!!!!!! ^V^
The font is fine,... in fact, I think it adds a bit of character. Hard to really tell it's a Terminal font, though,... might've helped to put it inside a black box (with white lettering), but not really necessary and it would've gotten in the way of the juicy drawings. ^__^

Yeah, I didn't want to mess up the illustraitions with any kind of text box...plus, this way it looks more like narration and less like actual dialogue.

Quote*drools at VMS-sama - Panel 2, 4, 6.

COME ON!!! NONE of those bastars were charmed by those gorgeous bangs and puppy-like expression?!! @o@

Haha...so VMS-sama has mastered the art of the "Sad Puppy Look"?

But, this is a refference to how VMS, unlike RSTS, RT 11, or Unix, was never readily accepted as an "academic" OS.

QuoteNo, that's about right. Remember my old Win 2.0-chan script had the Mac kids and Win kids fighting in a corny West Side Story style, complete with well-choreographed dance sequences and the long lost art of coordinated finger snapping. ^.^

Oh, how could I forget the 2.0-chan script :..(

QuoteBesides, it adds to the Full Metal Panic inspiration... especially since the world of the consumer-grade OS-tans (about a decade after the stories timeline) would be so much like the world "on the other side of the gate" (not spoiling it for anyone, I hope) ^___^

Nope. I have read a bit of the Full Metal Panic manga...but I still, all I know about it is that it's centered around a terrorist prone girl, and is set in a parallel timeline with advanced technology.

I had to make a mini Odyssey. She's probably one of my favorite Windows-tans.

QuoteWow!! 3 beautiful pictures of pure winnage in one day!

*Explodes*

*magically reassembles*

...

Excellent usage of puns with the Solaris-tan picture!

The Odyssey-tan minis are so funny! The second one is my favorite! Struggling... to resist the urge... to remark... Not resisting well--

"I don't know what you are talking about so here's an Odyssey-tan with a cake on its head!"

Thanks! Don't worry, though, nobody knows what I'm babbling about :P

Neptune: the OS that never was

Bella

Thank you :)

Okay, so yesterday I started with a vector sketch of Multics-sama. As usual, I saved it after a bit of work--what would you know, I got about an hour and a half (or more) into the thing, when Inkscape crashes. Upon looking for the SVG file, I find nothing but a PNG FILE! The #$%-@#*&ed, ^%$^$%-&*!@ing, @#$-of-a-$#&*! didn't save it as the right file.

So, I weaved a fine tapestry of curses, and got back to work on re-doing the picture. Which I guess is for the better, since I was kinda unhappy with where it was going anyhow. : /

In other news, I'm really wanting to draw some chibis for ITS, WAITS, FreeVMS and O3ONE-tan. I have the hand sketches already made up...maybe I should just go ahead and draw some minis of them, though.

C-Chan

Bella-san, does that mean you already checked C:\Program Files\Inkscape?  (or whatever the program detects as "home").  I don't think it's possible for it to "save" to a PNG file (rather than just "Export" it), so the SVG dump has GOT to be somewhere in your computer.  It won't have the SVG extension, though,... it's gonna appear like a large extensionless file with a weird name, dated at exactly the time of your crash.

That feature has saved my sanity quite a few times.  ^^

All I see are DLLs, an LIB file, and a mini I accidentally exported there. The only trace I have of my 1st try on that Multics-sama picture is this screenshot which appeared:

Oh well, I've already gotten to the point of no return with my 2nd picture. But I would like to know what the hell happened to the other one  ;026

C-Chan

Found it!  (searched for an old crash in my work's Win box).  ^^

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\bellasnamehere and look for any weird file that kinda/sorta looks like this:

car.2008_03_19_17_45_5#.2008_03_19_17_47_54.0

This folder is what Inkscape considers your "Home" folder, and in a way it is.  :)

Aurora Borealis

AAAAAUGH! That sucks! That totally sucks! To be working on a fantastic picture and spend a lot of time on it just to have it crash and lose all or nearly all your progress! >__<

I have a lot of empathy for you- something like that has happened to me multiple times before!

I did as you said, and found the Inkscape home folder. While I did find several files named like that, most were in fact copies of my OLDER Multics-sama picture (y'know, from last winter). The missing file is nowhere to be seen ^////^

At any rate, it's good to know about that folder...

Hmmm...at least I know my computer isn't just out to get me, haha...

But really, that picture was kinda off to a bad start. This one will be much better :)

Also, I've installed Inkscape 0.46; Not much different from the pre-release, but I swear it runs a bit smoother....

OMG!!!  Talk about searching for grape juice and finding wine.  ^____^

It's nice that at least you managed to find a treasure trove of artwork long thought MIA.   ^.^

No doubt Aurora-hime has similar crash dumps scattered in some obscure location (although the backup functionality seems only present in 0.45 and later).

Aha!  So that WASN'T 0.46.  ^_______^

BTW, next chance you fire up your *Buntu virtual box, try to download a program from the repos called Ren'Py (and its Demo).  Once done, tell me what you think about its... potential.  ^____^

Ack, it's not like I lost that file; just that there are a ton of copies of it there (at different points in the progress of the picture.

Oooh, okay, this'll give me a good excuse to fire up the VM!

*edit*

I found Renpy and the demo in the Ubuntu repository, but I couldn't figure out how to download it (on the mirror I tried I got nothing but a lot of gibberish). And it wasn't available though the package manager. ^////^

Multics-sama:

It's at a beta/gamma-ish stage, I still need to add a background. Maybe some of her daemons will be pictured, as well.

Aurora Borealis

OH. MY. GOSH...

Multics-sama, her dress and all the details are sooooooo incredibly beautiful! Beautiful beyond words as I am speechless! Speechless! ;019

icerain

That must have taken A LOT of time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not into details when I draw and it still takes about a week! Or two!!!!!!
