Tell me about it! I have made some changes, though, involving the distortion that the magnifying glass is causing...

In all fairness, she wasn't PO'd until she had a noob glomp her O___o

Anyhow...I've had an idea. Regarding my dream to do an OS-tan comic...I don't know if it's a good idea or not, though...

I'm thinking about doing a hand drawn OS-tan comic series...I'll start it in pencil, but I might make it pen and ink. My rationale: I have a lot of OS-tan comic ideas. I wish I could make some of them a reality, but I don't think I could ever do so with my current process of hand sketching, then moving the drawing to Inkscape to vectorize it. To put it bluntly...I'm a lot more efficient at hand drawing than digital illustration.

The pros to this idea: like I said, I'm very efficient at hand drawing. I tend to lose steam when vectorizing comics, but I am incredibly fast at the actual drawing portion. In the time it would take me to do one page digitally, I could probably do a half a dozen hand drawn pages (though this has yet to be proven).

The cons: I will, in essence, make myself a one-person team. With vector illustration, I can always post the source, others can help out, and I can always go back and fix problems, but this can't be done with hand drawings...the most creative input I could get from others is ideas for stories and such, which I'd value highly.

I wouldn't be doing coloring; so any comics I would make would, theoretically, lack a certain "zazz". I can really hope that the story itself would make up for this. I also realize that manga is often not done in color; but I wonder how many comics/manga are hand drawn...

The bottom line, I have to ask myself, would I rather hold out hope that I will someday be able to draw these ideas in full color, finished, and vectorized, and lacking time, drive and ability, and almost surely end up taking them to the proverbial grave with me?

Or would I rather have them out in the open, on paper, but in an arguably "lesser" form? I have tossed around the idea of doing a fanfic, but I dunno if I would be willing to do all that writing...this, at least, would be visual...

So this will be my test...I am opening the floor to all ideas for a short OS-tan comic. I have ideas, but I'm not sure I want to use them for what would be a test run...

-Something around 2 to 4 pages
-Not terribly complex, but interesting
-Nothing incredibly melodramatic, but with some heart; I could always cop out and do a comedy, 'course.
-I have no set ideas for the characters

I'd be grateful to anyone willing to help out and sorry if I sound so unsure; I am sure I have the means to do this, I only wonder if I can keep it up (as, historically, many of our home grown comics have had a tough time getting off the ground, let alone continue in a series)...

Aw man, I can totally relate to that! I am very slow with vector work and am much faster and efficient with pencil-drawn work!

With my comics, I always make a digitally-illustrated version because with all the colors, lighting and special effects; it has a lot of pizazz to it and that my hand-drawn versions are often very sketchy, have blatant errors and sometimes I'm not satisfied with some of the dialogue I wrote down so I replace it when typing it in. Ocassionally I am dissatisfied with how a whole panel turned out on paper so I completely replace it with something different in that panel!

However if I just went with the hand-drawn versions, I'd be up to page 43 with zerOSanity (instead of 34 currently) and p. 20 with Insanity Force (my original series I restarted recently, up to page 2 currently and it's in my DA gallery. At least vectorizing pages in this series is considerably easier!)

But still...I have read that there are varying forms of chibi, from just, plain, chibi to super-deformed. So...that'll be my excuse.

Well yeah I did see that, but you gotta realize that these are all OS-tans, and all technicaly "hawt" (except the kid ones of course -- they're just "cute").  ^^

I should note, this is my first time attempting any sort of forced perspective. In her right hand, Solaris-tan is holding a magnifying glass...thus the distortion of the size of her eye. Really just a rough vector sketch, though...

Rough or not, it makes me want to invent a new word....

In the final, though, I might suggest blurring Solaris-sama ever so slightly, just to help give the impression of focus depth.  Let me know when you're done, so I can collage myself into the tea cup for some extra "kink".  ^___^

I like her a bit better this way. The hat I'm a little lukewarm on...never been that big of a fan of cowboy hats outside of rodeos, though, so that's just me. We don't see many ethnic variations with OS-tans, though, so I'm liking this.

Well PCLOS-sama is a Gnu herder, so she'll need to wear that more often than not.  I might make a black and silver variety as well, since those are the dominant colors in the 2008 release.

I'm still indecisive whether to make her Native American or Mexican American, but that's what I'm aiming for and what would truly make her more fundamentally Texan.  

Oh yeah, and this is something I've been working on for a while in paint...

I call it, Me Glomping a PO'd VMS-sama.

I second Aurora-sama's concern about finding you floating in the shark pool after that....

I think it's incredible that you can continue your comics...I have had people ask how I have the patience to do some of my drawings...a single drawing isn't much for me, but for some reason I can hardly ever finish a comic -__-

Okay, this is kinda a historical comic; it's set in 1984, and has to do with Ultrix-tan's arrival. RSTS-tan and VMS-sama are enjoying a leisurely board game (that I made up off the top of my head), when RT 11-tan interrupts them to tell them that they're leader (some dude vaguely resembling Ken Olsen...?) has an important announcement to make...that they are to adopt a Unix-tan into their group! Much to the chagrin of everyone! Meh, I think it's pretty good for a concept I just thought yesterday, and pretty much wrote as I went along.

By the way, has anyone seen an artist around here called Sildias?

Well....VMS-sama's dislike of the Unixes comes, mostly, from her surroundings; the DEC-tans aren't exactly fans of the Unixes, not by a long shot. This, plus the fact that VMS-sama has found herself in a number of run-ins with Unix-tans, especially the BSD family and...

In other news: VMS-sama faced off against Unix-sama and SURVIVED?! 0__0 I've gotta see that!

Yes, VMS-sama got in a fight with Unix-sama. I found this website detailing the history of BSD...I don't have the link on hand, I'll post it when I find it. But anyhow, the fight would have taken place at Berkeley; this was before BSD-tan was around, though.

This whole VMS/Unix-sama conflict comes from real life events at Berkeley...

In the mid 70s, the computer department originally  RSTS. For a while, they ran RSTS along side of Unix in shifts; something like 18 hours for one, 6 for the other, and they'd switch the next day. But eventually support for Unix outweighed support for RSTS, so they all but did away with it.

In 1978, they ordered a VAX machine; this machine, of course, ran VMS, but it was soon decided that everyone liked Unix more, so, yep, away with VMS as well.

So, I imagine, that for a while RSTS-tan and Unix-sama worked and lived with a certain degree of peace at Berkeley; but the plan for them to share power would have slowly led to a lot of strain between them, until something sparked a conflict that would eventually lead to a fight; Unix-sama would have been much more powerful than RSTS-tan, so her victory was quite sure.

Some years later, VMS-sama, still young and green and just "graduated", decides to go to the Western Frontier to take on Unix-sama...mostly out of the tarnished pride of the DEC family, her stepsister RSTS-tan, and less because of her own motives. While she would have been a great deal more proficient than RSTS-tan at alchemy/geomancy, and therefor more evenly matched in this dual, her learned skills still wouldn't have held a candle to Unix-sama's inherited powers. Unix-sama would have known this, and after a while, VMS-sama would have realized this as well; putting aside any feelings of pride, VMS-sama would admit defeat; she would never again tread on that territory...and I guess the two would come out of the situation with a certain amount of respect for one another.

And I also suppose that, during this dual, VMS-sama would use some defensive techniques that were not altogether dissimilar to those of Multics-sama...I want to hint that, perhaps, VMS-sama may have learned some fighting techniques from Multics-sama (as a reference to both systems implementing "rings")

I especially love the work you did on Ultrix-san in Panel 2 -- her pose and portions are all spot-on, and her face (and hair style) is so cute and pleasant!  ^v^

Well writing the script first usually helps. ^^
When Aurora and I worked on the Zerosanity Xmas special and the old Mac Party comic, we settled on a general script before actually doing any of the drawing.  

Once you know what you have to draw, it certainly expedites the imaginative process.  ^^

I too would love to see how a dual between young a UNIX-sama and a young VMS-sama pans out.  Bear in mind that UNIX-sama may not exhibit the same level of maturity then as she does now in the present day.  ^^'

Well I will say this,... this, a good flashback it doth make.  ^.^

It's especially cool to come up with premises for how someone as technically inferior as UNIX-sama (compared to many of her old opponents) can employ experience, strategy and intellect to overcome anything.

More than just being learned in nearly all schools of Sourcery, one of her greatest strengths is her ability to break one's fighting spirit (something which Multics-sama was never versed in, as her former domineering behavior usually served to inflame her enemies further).

Taken from a page of the 'Romance of the Twelve Kingdoms' epic, one of her favorite tactics (against particularly strong opponents) is to defeat them, capture them, have a long civilized talk with them while in captivity, and then let them go to fight them again another day.  The more her opponent returns to get her ass kicked/captured/talked to/released, the more shame the opponent brings upon herself, and the more support she loses from her followers (they may even choose to defect to UNIX-sama's side!).  Usually it takes about 8 rounds for an opponent to finally admit defeat and acknowledge UNIX-sama's skill.  ^^

Not sure if this could apply to her duel with VMS-sama (although if it did, VMS-sama would not have stubbornly pressed on 8 times), but VMS-sama is certainly old-school enough to respect her enemies.  

A lot of the younger OS-tans (including many of UNIX-sama's own daughters and granddaughters) just seem to have no respect for anything these days.....   -_____-;

And I also suppose that, during this dual, VMS-sama would use some defensive techniques that were not altogether dissimilar to those of Multics-sama...I want to hint that, perhaps, VMS-sama may have learned some fighting techniques from Multics-sama (as a reference to both systems implementing "rings")

That would have also helped cement that strange belligerent friendship that the two hold for one another.  On the one hand, UNIX-sama defeated VMS-sama without destroying her honor.  But on the flip side, VMS-sama reminds UNIX-sama of her own mother.  Talk about Equivalent Trade.....  ^___^

A while back, in one of Aurora's threads, I was babbling about what I thought certain OS-tans would talk like...

And Plan 9-tan likes to sound very formal and leaned, but usually she ends up just sounding nonsensical.

As for others I've thought of, I suppose XP-tan would be a bit ditsy (kinda like Orihime from Bleach)

VMS-sama I always thought would be quite the strong, silent type (with maybe just a *hint* of a Massachusetts/Boston accent, XD)

Multics-sama I suppose would be very aristocratic, as well, and loves to work Latin into conversations...

Unix-sama....hmmm...probably very to-the-point and no nonsense. And not very big on formalities, as it has been said that Unix never says "Please"

The Linuxes would be all over the place; I suppose they'd take on an accent from wherever the distro was created (like with PCLOS-tan having a Texas accent), and I guess Linux-sama might have a slight Finnish accent. I guess the same could be said for the Unixes, too...

Well writing the script first usually helps. ^^
When Aurora and I worked on the Zerosanity Xmas special and the old Mac Party comic, we settled on a general script before actually doing any of the drawing.

Once you know what you have to draw, it certainly expedites the imaginative process. ^^

I too would love to see how a dual between young a UNIX-sama and a young VMS-sama pans out. Bear in mind that UNIX-sama may not exhibit the same level of maturity then as she does now in the present day. ^^'

It's especially cool to come up with premises for how someone as technically inferior as UNIX-sama (compared to many of her old opponents) can employ experience, strategy and intellect to overcome anything.

I always figured...from what you said...that a lot of Unix-sama's strategy involves mind games and such, perhaps  more than actual fighting.

More than just being learned in nearly all schools of Sourcery, one of her greatest strengths is her ability to break one's fighting spirit (something which Multics-sama was never versed in, as her former domineering behavior usually served to inflame her enemies further).

Breaking one's fighting spirit? Yup, that sounds about right...

I can see where Multics-sama...while very skilled at self-defense...would lack strategy and direction. I think she had a way of making those around her either love or hate her...and when she got an enemy, she got one for life.

And when you think about it, she never did defeat any of her rivals (cause Unix-sama and GECOS-san are still around)....she merely managed to survive the fights to live another day O__o

Taken from a page of the 'Romance of the Twelve Kingdoms' epic, one of her favorite tactics (against particularly strong opponents) is to defeat them, capture them, have a long civilized talk with them while in captivity, and then let them go to fight them again another day. The more her opponent returns to get her ass kicked/captured/talked to/released, the more shame the opponent brings upon herself, and the more support she loses from her followers (they may even choose to defect to UNIX-sama's side!). Usually it takes about 8 rounds for an opponent to finally admit defeat and acknowledge UNIX-sama's skill. ^^

Not sure if this could apply to her duel with VMS-sama (although if it did, VMS-sama would not have stubbornly pressed on 8 times), but VMS-sama is certainly old-school enough to respect her enemies.

Well, I suppose this dual would have come after Unix-sama tried everything else to get rid of VMS-sama, including just asking her to leave....needless to say, she wasn't very much wanted there.

A lot of the younger OS-tans (including many of UNIX-sama's own daughters and granddaughters) just seem to have no respect for anything these days..... -_____-;

That would have also helped cement that strange belligerent friendship that the two hold for one another. On the one hand, UNIX-sama defeated VMS-sama without destroying her honor. But on the flip side, VMS-sama reminds UNIX-sama of her own mother. Talk about Equivalent Trade..... ^___^

Yep...the dual would have ended quite anticlimactically...and would have actually started that friendship between the two, I suppose.

I still don't know how VMS-sama and Multics-sama would have known each other, though; but I guess in the OS-tan world strange connections are quite common. There's like, Two Degrees of Separation between everybody

And, I was wondering, what exactly would hardware be to these older OS-tans? Because, in this comic, I want to mention the irony of how, while the DEC-tans never got along with the Unix-tans, the Unix family in fact got their start on DEC hardware. But...what would the hardware (the PDPs, VAXs, etc) be? Should I just mention it as "DEC territory" or something?

It's not really central to the plot, though...

Based off the comments of "Manga quality" and "Panels" I'm guessing we're talking about the contents of your newly created "comics" section of your User gallery. If such is the case, I can only echo what has already been said. I've always loved your drawing style, and seeing such copious amounts of concentrated win makes me giddy. I absolutely love the dynamic layout, and the ease of direction. Your sense of timing is especially poignant as demonstrated by the exceeding attention to detail in the frames in which you wish the viewer to linger in, and the almost rushed feel of the transitory frames. I love the tension you set up almost immediately, but if I had to name the weakest part of the whole thing, I think it would be the almost anti-climactic resolution to the tense game. Then again, I haven't any better ideas on, so perhaps your way was best. Besides, as far as I can tell, that sequence was designed to develop almost exclusively VMS-sama 's character, so a longer resolution would have just wasted time.
All in all, I'd rate it at a 12 out of 10, with very high potential! ^V^

I also saw your chibis, to which I must ask: is there anything you are not exceedingly good at? ^.^
Regardless of what anyone else say, you're definitely one of the best artists, if we're going by my books.
