QuoteORIC-TAN: She remains cute by giving her a tomboy-kind of look. Nicely done!
PIPPIN-TAN: It was really a "nice call" from you to make her look like MacOS/System 7-tan. I really have to give you points for a nice art sketch well done and for that additional research

Thanks! I actually added some pinstripes to Pippin-tan's uniform, as a nod to Aurora's OS7-tan.

QuoteLEOPARD-TAN+iPHONE-TAN: You know, I can really guess that sketch was inspired by the OS9+iPod artwork (http://ostan.matrix.jp/os/mac/src/1129473848607.jpg). And your sketch was neatly done! I like it. Maybe you should post it to ++(Nijiura.com)'s website.

I've added a lot more to it (I'll post it ASAP!)

Some of those imageboards kinda scare me, though : \ They sometimes aren't the kindest place for fanart...

C-Chan

Wow!  Thank you Alfamille!  And great, you just did us a favor too!  ^.^

There we go, this'll fit perfectly even on a cellphone screen!  ^v^

Pretty please post it ASAP, and yes imageboards can be very counterproductive if infested with the wrong people.  Actually, Nijiura.com doesn't look that bad, and there was a comic up recently that had a brief cameo of Mac OSX Cheetah-san!  ^__^
Just be sure to post in Japanese,... you know, out of courtesy and all... ^__^

Speaking of posting, I figured I should post this up just to make people aware that PCLOS-san is here to stay.... ^__^

I'm either finished or not, depending on whether it should be shaded (it's part of a series composed of  quick-n-dirty comic-strip-like pictures).  ^.^

Oh, the one where they're cavorting about in swimsuits lol...

The posting in Japanese thing could be the problem ;) (cause who knows what those translation sites will come up with >__<)

And here's more of the iPhone-tan/Leopard-tan pic (halfway between being inked)

As for the NT-san pic, I think I'm either going to design her outfit like this (kinda formal, "Military" style)

NejinOniwa

...omfz.
...by the empress, this is awesome.

Or, the best one-liner ever, from Konata's father...

Here's my idea for NT-san's outfit:

(Since she uses a western style sword, I didn't know how she'd look wearing Japanese dress)

Edit:
Gosh. I just hope she doesn't look like a killer flight attendant XD

Aurora Borealis

Awesome work as always!

VMS-tan, OS/2 Warp-tan and NT-tan all look ready for battle! And VMS-tan shows off and introduces her giant cleaver! Super awesome! But her and OS/2 Warp-tan appearing on the same page, I just hope they aren't about to fight each other because I like them both alot! *sniffle*

The Hacchan+MS DOS-tan+Pupchan picture is so cute! BTW, what does Pupchan's normal outfit look like in color? Because I was thinking about drawing a group picture with her and YellowDog-tan in it.

The updates on the iPhone+Leopard-tan picture look fantastic!

HAHAHAHAHA! Killer flight attendant! Hmm... That could make a weird movie! I wonder what scarier on a plane, snakes or killer flight attendants? Anyways NT-tan's military-style outfit looks awesome!

KILLER FLIGHT ATTENDANT!! :D

Bella

Thank you!

I didn't really have a set color in mind, but I know it'll be Hacchan-esque (cause Pup's GUI looks quite like 98).

I don't think they'll be fighting each other soon (cause both were kinda screwed over by NT-san in her own special way : |)

It's interesting that you said that, cause I really haven't considered the two intereacting before.  Even though both share a lot in common, I kinda figure they'd interact a little coldly with one another for some reason.  '__'

When I first started drawing OS-tans back in February, I hand colored them. After but a month or so of that, I switched to coloring them...with no more than a simple MS photo editing program using the brush tool...and sometime in May I decided to face my fear of Photoshop and start using that.

I've been using a complicated process of hand inking, digitally darken it, and hand coloring in light spots. But last week I reached the end of my rope with that, I knew I had to face my fear of....

Vector illustrating! The very name frightens me XD I mean, *I thought* it was like the theoretical algebra of digital art.

So, sometime on Saturday afternoon, like some sort of watergoing creature taking the first great evolutionary step onto land, I started by opening up Inkscape, and a project I'd been working on...and I realized, hey, this isn't quite as difficult/painful/frustrating as I thought it would be. Actually, it's fun! And though I still do coloring in PS, Inkscape is where I am now doing the lineart.

Makes me think of the words of a wise person who said...

Oh hell, I'll drop the drama and let sweet, sweet, VMS-sama do the talking:

Welcome back, Bella! Haven't seen you here in a long while! And you're back with some new fantastic stuff! Yay!

I too have switched from Photoshop to Inkscape (back in the spring time for me though) and once thought vector graphics were intimidating but I've gotten very efficent with vector graphics and I'm sure you will too!

Your new rendition of VMS-sama is fantastic and she's got a giant cleaver! (Although I also really like your original "V for Vendetta"-ish rendition too)

The Miggy + Windows 2.0-tan picture is very heartwarming! *sniffle*

Windows 1.0-tan and 2.0-tan look very nice with new outfits in the next picture! Incidentally, one of the pictures I'm working on now is a group picture of 1.0-tan and 2.0-tan!

And below that is an XP-tan no hacker would want to mess with! :D

And the mysterious looking background goes nicely with Odyssey-tan's mysterious personality!

Added after 53 minutes:

QuoteWhen I first started drawing OS-tans back in February, I hand colored them.

And I was just looking at Zenwalk-tan the other day!  ^__^
Indeed we can trace the evolutionary path of your art!  ^v^
Just like others before and after you, I had great confidence then that you would be a great artist, because of your open-minded willingness to draw alternative OS-tans, but also because of that self-motivation that kept you sharing and improving!  So you can imagine how glad I am that you not only surpassed, but completely left expectations biting dust!  ^v^

QuoteAfter but a month or so of that, I switched to coloring them...with no more than a simple MS photo editing program using the brush tool...and sometime in May I decided to face my fear of Photoshop and start using that.

Remind me again what you used to create your first Pu-chan pic, plus 64 Studio.  Was that by hand or through the photo editor?  '__'

QuoteI've been using a complicated process of hand inking, digitally darken it, and hand coloring in light spots. But last week I reached the end of my rope with that, I knew I had to face my fear of....

When I first drew my first Miggy-chan, I tried doing it on Photoshop, then on a copy of Manga Studio I was "evaulating" (and ultimately never used again).  I had drawn Anime characters before with Raster graphics, but they never quite came out as clean and sharp enough to emulate modern Anime.  That perfectionist drive to "etch" the right look would often lead me to waste ungawdly amounts of time on very stupid things.  -v-

On the other hand, my last encounter with Illustrator was unpleasant, but since I was already aware by then of the great goodness of free software ("free" as in "freeware" only,... didn't know what the GPL was back then), I had the motivation to look for an alternative vector graphics program.  Nothing fancy, just something nice and simple enough to let me get used to it and still allow me to apply my experience using those awful Photoshop vector tools.

So I'm wondering if this is just a classic case of history repeating itself.  ^__^

QuoteVector illustrating! The very name frightens me XD I mean, *I thought* it was like the theoretical algebra of digital art.

*snicker*
I had worked on 3D editing years ago, so I didn't really think the same thing given I had worked with far worse things.  -v-
However, Illustrator and Photoshop's vector tools did leave me with a bad impression of what vector graphics are and can do.  ^^;

QuoteSo, sometime on Saturday afternoon, like some sort of watergoing creature taking the first great evolutionary step onto land, I started by opening up Inkscape, and a project I'd been working on...and I realized, hey, this isn't quite as difficult/painful/frustrating as I thought it would be. Actually, it's fun! And though I still do coloring in PS, Inkscape is where I am now doing the lineart.

*hugs Bella-san*

AAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!  CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!  YOU'VE JUST TAKEN YOUR FIRST STEP INTO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF INKSCAPE!!!!!!!  ^V^

So now you can join the ranks of your fellow vector-in-arm comrades, including myself, Aurora-sama, Kami-Tux, Tsubashi-san, soon-to-be-Alfamille, etc.... ^___^

(BTW, I take it you already had Inkscape installed due to a certain collaborative project, mayhaps?  ^___^)

I don't blame you for wanting to color in PS, as I too was neither comfortable nor knowledgeable enough to do everything in Inkscape when I first started.  Miggy-chan, for example, had her lineart and base coloring done in Inkscape, then I exported to PS for shading, her checkered shirt, her bag, etc, then exported that back into Inkscape for highlights and last minute additions...... then exported her BACK into PS to adopt suggestions from Darknight.  It was a mess and in hindsight is shows in her appearance, but thankfully time, patience and blur effects have helped consolidate my efforts into a single program.  ^^

It is very fun, no?  More sculpting that drawing actually, and very conducive to the Anime style.

QuoteMakes me think of the words of a wise person who said...

"Thou shalt add hair buns to your SAM Linux sketch." --The Book of C-chan, 24:2,10

...Deshou? ^___^

QuoteOh hell, I'll drop the drama and let sweet, sweet, VMS-sama do the talking:

Keep in mind this is only half colored...

Forgive me while I wipe my drool away.... ^__^

*wipe wipe*

There we go.  ^v^
Have I told you tonight how much of a hot-mama VMS-sama is?  ^>^
And vectorized she's absolutely, positively, vehemently, astoundingly stunning!  ^v^
It oozes with strength,... power,... sharpness, like the teeth of her cleaver,....  AND it's not even half done!  @o@
I know you said you wanted to color in PS, but I can assure you that applying the color in Inkscape can yield a similar look to what you have on now.  Course it's all a matter of practice really -- the one benefit in PS is that you can make the lines variable-width much more easily than in Inkscape (which requires a clever trick to imitate the appearance).  ^__^

This VMS-sama is a perfect example of how she would look like living in the fringes, struggling in a world almost alien to the one she grew up in and mastered, but still clutching to the hope that her bloodline will carry on.  I'm glad you opted for the silver hair streak idea after all -- that, coupled with the fierce single eye peering through, adds an incredible sense of drama and depth to her experession that, if one isn't careful, could send chills down the spine!  @v@

Her clothing is both cool and elegant, certainly happy to see it again after that cool sketch you did shortly before you left.  The picture of NT-tan she's clutching in her gloved hands is tearjerking.

I'm literally floored by this,... and if I'm not swooning now it's only because I promised to hold all my swooning till the end of the presentation.  At this rate, I'll be knocked out for a whole week.  ^v^

Seriously, if this is the new art direction your're going with, I feel the sun will shine brighter tomorrow morning.  ^___^

(now I'm sounding dramatic... -v-; )

One final note!  ^__^
Not sure if you sketched first then traced the lineart in Inkscape (I personally sketch in Inkscape directly), but in the event you go that route, don't forget that the "Trace Bitmap" function helps vectorize the lines in your sketchwork, thus making them fully scalable.

QuoteMiggy/Win 2.0-tan:

Well anything with Miggy-san and 2.0-chan is bound to be adorable, but you had already drawn one before no?  '__'

Oh well, as a wise person once said....

"The world can never haveth too much Miggy." --The Book of C-chan, 54:3,15

QuoteWin1.0/2.0-tan:

This one is striking, in that the style is unlike any you've done before.  More Anime than manga, and clearly a precursor to the vector drawing of VMS-sama you did above.  ^__^

Now that you mention it, I also started dabbling in a 2,0-chan picture the other day to break up some artist block. Since I don't have her body done yet, perhaps I can use this uniform instead to add some variety.  ^__^

Excellent work with this one!  ^^

QuoteSome photoshopping I did for fun:

Well this one's a collage really, but still nifty nonetheless.  -v-

Not sure what the thing in the lower corner is.  -.-

QuoteOdyssey-tan:

Oooh-hoo-HOO!!!  More of those dynamic lighting effects that I fell in love with!  ^v^
As you work with Inkscape, never forget that such effects are also possible there too.  Just as an example, check out the first image here:

http://www.inkscape.org/screenshots/?lang=en&version=0.45

And now that I visited the sight, my jaw dropped at what's coming up for release version 0.46:

http://www.inkscape.org/screenshots/?lang=en&version=0.46

I take what I said back about variable-width lines.... ^^;
Clearly it won't be a problem in Inkscape anymore!  ^v^

Someone's gonna get more patented C-chan funding!   ^___^
*opens wallet*

In any event, back to Oddyssey-san.  Cool, mystical, breathtaking are just some of the words that come to mind when I see her.  She also happens to have record-breaking long legs too, although it's likely that the shading in the back just makes them look thinner.  Not only do I like this, but it also gives you the right mindset to pursue when working in future Inkscape projects.... ^__^

Added after 25 minutes:

QuoteWindows 1.0-tan and 2.0-tan look very nice with new outfits in the next picture! Incidentally, one of the pictures I'm working on now is a group picture of 1.0-tan and 2.0-tan!

Woohoo!  Everywhere I look, people are drawing 2.0-chan!  ^__^
*sniff*  Makes me happy!  ^v^

Mine would actually be paired with a very young 3.1-sama (rather Windows 3.0).  I'd like to add the DOS sisters, OS/2 and 1.0-tan too (sadly no Xenix since she technically isn't around by then), but knowing me I'm safer keeping the project simple.  ^__________^;

QuoteR: Leopard-tan and iPhone-tan w/name ideas. L: A comic idea. Anyone remember a couple months ago when the father Mac joked him and the father of Windows had been married for the last decade in an interview? You didn't? I did XD and thought it'd make for a funny OS-tan comic...

Gyaaah!  Your sketches are getting more sophisticated with each passing drawing!  ^^
I really have no clue what you're talking about, but maybe it's cause I'm too distracted seeing the awesome and dynamic rendition of Leopard and iPhone-tan.  ^^

I'm actually kinda sad that I've neglected ZX-tan so much, especially since (according to my original schedule), she was destined to have a nice full-sized pic not long after her chibi was done.
