b) If you can't see it, try virtualizing Vista on a Mac, and then place Finder next to Windows Explorer. The resemblance is uncanny.
c) While sure, Apple Zealots would love to give all the credit to their favorite company, Apple's not the only one M$ is grabbing "Inspiration" from. Unfortunately, all the little Opensource projects don't get the credit they deserve because they're more of a conglomeration.

When I first saw Vista, I thought it was OpenSuSE. it really looks like a KDE, which was stripped of its good things (Konqueror, k3b) and uglyfied by the color-scheme and desktop-background.

Nope, never was. The smiling Mac has been, and still is used to represent the finder, the graphical representation of the computer's file system. This was apples original logo, until about 1976 at which point it became the much better known Rainbow Apple. Then in the year 1999, around the time Steve Jobs came back, apple switched to it's current Chrome Scheme

I didn't know that! I always associated the rainbow Apple as the company logo, with the Mac face as the OS logo (until they changed it to the chrome Apple).

A lot (especially the first several) are quite uncanny!
Some, like the mail, movie, backup programs, and Media Center/Front Row similarities, I think are pretty weak arguments since they've been around in Windows for years.

But, why does anyone expect anything else from Microsoft? Let's face it, they've never really been on the cutting edge of much (except, strangely enough, tablet PCs, but that's a whole other topic...).

It probably would if I had seen Heroes, but judging from implicit data, I think it would be a great idea!

Parodies are pretty tricky...ones of well known books/movies/shows are quite obvious, but most of my ideas are obscure. Heroes is a fairly popular show, so I know a few people from the forums will at least get it

Lately I've been working on a couple of comics. One's called "International Incident" and it involves Macintosh-tan and 95-tan...I think you may know where this is going, heehee...

The other drawing I'm working on is about the OSs that run on x86 processors (in this case, Linux-sama, Saseko, and Solaris-tan) not wanting to be lumped together as "PCs". I don't want to give too much away

That's what Viru-tan does...she comes off looking like an adorable, friendly, lets say, screensaver, and the next thing you know...or wait, that's my experience XD She's trying to warm up to Tiger-san, but little does she know she's up against top-notch offensive Unix architecture!

I guess Windows-tans would be defensive, cause they're susceptible to viruses but can fend them off with the help of their company, and 3rd-party defenders. Macs and Unixes would be offensive, using smarts and avoidance to keep out of trouble. Would Linuxes be mostly offensive/with some defensive measures, because can't Linuxes catch *a few* viruses?

Well certainly the problem with Windows-tans is that they do wait until something breaks to fix it.  Kind of like eating badly and then waiting until your cholesterol is through the roof to go on a diet, or not brushing and then waiting until cavities form to go to the dentist.  Naturally, there would be a few girls who will want to be slightly more preventative than the others, but for the most part their "culture" almost rewards bad habits.  ^^;

Macs you and I agreed are a bit on the classy side, so they eat right (or at least eat in much smaller "civilized" portions), are very strict about cleanliness, fitness and hygiene, and generally thumb their noses down at uncouth virus-prone sites.  When they get diseased they still suffer, but for the most part they unwittingly prevent transmission.

It's very important that Linuces mix and match strategies (both offensive and defensive and even retaliatory) as much as possible, as (just like with agriculture) a polyculture will always be stronger and hardier than monocultures.  The majority are not only very fit and hardy, but also amazingly well-informed and connected (if one virus is detected one second, every single Linux sister knows about it the next). Furthermore, each Linux is built up differently and manages completely different habits, so for the most part what may work on one (or some) will not work on everyone.

...and there is truth to the idea that virus writers would switch to harrassing Linux/Mac should they ever dominate over Windows.  But how the system is built to begin with certainly influences who devastating this threat can be.

I think Nijura Vistan would be best as ultimate, and "Screwy" Vistan should be home premium...

I'd rather she just be the clock widget or something, so we can tuck her/it away outta sight.... ^___^;

As for the hair, sure why not.  Or better yet, why not take a walk on the wild side and do a combination?  A nice big prominent tuff of silver hair over her usual bluish base.  Hey, it worked for Viru-tan -- I've always been one to love original hair styles.  ^v^

wonder if the Mac-tans are like the fashionistas and trendsetters of the OS-tan world? Because, at least if you listen to the anti-Vista (or realist from some POV) folks, M$ took a lot of "inspiration" from OS X (I don't see it, BTW), when designing Vista's look. That would make for a good comic...

I do agree with Kami-Tux that Vista does sorta almost look like KDE.  Then again, the desktop concept really doesn't change much between systems (at least the modern ones), so it's hard for them NOT to be partially similar.  It's just an issue when one company (*stares at M$*) thinks it holds the patent on said design.  ^^;

Hmmm....after watching a marathon until the wee hours of the night, I started thinking about doing an OS-tan Heroes spoof...featuring Leopard-tan (as Hiro)...I wonder who would be the OS-tan equivalent of the Cheerleader, though, XD
Or maybe something with several interesting OS-tans with "abilities" similar to those of the characters on the show...a split-personality (NT-san? Sweet mother/psycho), an indestructible (OS/2?), a mind reader, etc...

Incidentally, they really aren't taking advantage of Tablet PCs as much as they should.  -v-
It's tricky technology,... even Linux Tablet distributions are said to have some trouble using all the tablet features properly.

But yes, since they also took from my darling Amiga-sama many years ago, it's incredible that I've let them get away with it for this long.  -v-

Either they did try to produce their own 3D desktops without realizing there were cooler things already out there in the market (so much for "Wow"), or they failed trying to steal stuff like this before the release date.... ^.^

I've never found comics with a lot of dialogue to be my thing. I like to keep it simple, relying mostly on actions to tell the story. However, I do seem to have an odd knack for these little two-character one panel comics...Long, long ago I did one w/ Linspire-tan and Freespire-tan...I was working on one w/ SCO Unix-tan and Red Hat-tan, but since I'm not sure DY (my computer for the time being, while K8's in the shop) can handle the scanner, I guess I'll have to wait to post them.

Thanks! Although I try to stay close to the original design, I usually put some imagination into designing the clothes and hair. I think those are two of the places I can get away with drawing uniquely, while still not straying too far.

Thank you! I like Ubuntu-tan, too...as for her cheeriness and goodwill, I think Ubuntu-tan would be the most friendly of the Linux-tans, even to non-Linux OS-tans. Not that she wouldn't have a fighting side...but I guess she knows when it's time to fight and she knows when it's time to just relax and enjoy peace.

Ahhh, so we figured that metaphor out. The older Windows-tans (1.0-san's children) would probably be more virus-prone than NT-san's? Unless this is just my NT bias acting up again

It's a TV series about normal people who discover they have superpowers...
flying, telepathy, time-travel, etc...one person even can't be injured or killed, which makes me think of OS/2-san and the many times IBM tried to "off" her.

Thank you! Mac-tan wasn't really my favorite OS-tan, mostly cause she's a easy way to lump together all the Mac releases instead of giving them each time and attention like the Windows-tans. But since I consider her the "matriarch" on the modern Macs, at least, I thought she'd be good.
