"lol"?  Hundreds of thousands die, and you crack a joke?  Especialy after someone just said they are from there?  What if they knew someone there huh?  Think that might upset them maybe?  How about me, I just said I was there for the after math. More seriously though, I have a hard time feeling anything for disasters in general - simply because you know that whatever happens, something even worse is going to happen later on, and so on. Misfortune has no limits in a human world, and we all know it, don't we?
