I suppose I could've just kept trying, but I think I better just try and get better at Linux before I even think about storing its distant kin on the same machine.  ^^'

Don't get me wrong,... the installation, while a touch intimidating at times, was relatively user-friendly and the OS opened up to a nice and comfy KDE environment.  But aside from a few things not working [sound], something just felt.... out of place. '__'
And then it was nice enough to set iis partition as "BOOT" even though I thought I told it not to.  Puppy fixed it, but then loading Xubuntu showed boot errors which could be bypassed, then no mounts once I actually got into the system, then a nice gaping black hole in Gparted where BSD was installed (yes, even I never heard of that FS, so I couldn't blame GParted.... ^^;).

In fact, I sorta reformated the BSD drive to see if that fixed the boot errors, so you can say I cut it's life short to save Xubuntu.  Would've actually have been unnecessary if I knew then how to edit the FSTAB, but oh well, what's done and done.  I reckon PC-BSD would still be a better choice (though I don't have any more 32-bit machines... ^^'), but like I said, I'll hold off till I REALLY know what I'm doing.  -v-

In the meantime.... ^.^

Added after 9 hours 5 minutes:

OMG!!!!

I take it back,... you CAN install Beryl on Puppy-chan... @o@

(Note: screenshot not mine)

Definitely the little OS that could.  ^___^

Bella

That's like a purebred, show dog puppy XD

May change the Firefox icon again soon. Seems too boring.

Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

Kami-Tux

Hehehe, GParted might have lacked kernel support for BSD-style 'slices' inside of a partition? \end{wildguess}

Yeah, sounds about right to me.  Certainly was the first time I heard of the term "slices" in that context,... previously it just conjured up images of sandwiches.  -v-'

Oh well, moving on.  ^^
Screenshot of Puppy-chan vanilla is on my To-Do list.  -v-;

XP--Zune theme--

W/ lots of widgets, for HD, RAM, WiFi, CPU, documents files, and Swap. Okay. What is swap anyhow? Heehee...

C-Chan

Fufu... slightly more widgets.  ^.^
The swap, at least as far as I'm familiar with it., is essentially preallocated hard drive space used as a kind of virtual memory.  Very handy for when memory-hogging applications consume more than the physical RAM available.

In any event, still no Puppy screenshots, but I did swap OSes between my junk computer and my laptop, so now it's my lappie that runs PCLinuxOS....

With a nice brush-steeled wallpaper (it's usually blue).

Sorry for the lack of Beryl, but my poor lappie is too old for it (I had nearly forgotten they created Twister K cards back in the day.... ^^').

Besides, if I keep flooding my pics with the stuff, it'll get boring after a while.  ^v^'

C-Chan

I think the words you're looking for are "Radically Simple", eh?  ^__^

Fufufu.... ^v^

*laughs at own joke*

BTW, this one's JUST for you Bella-san....  ^___^

Back on my Xubuntu machine again.  -v-
XP performance is amazingly fast,... so aside from some OpenGL features not working properly in Hexagon, and the fact that I accidentally made the image too small (so I can't fit some of the voice programs I wanted yet), it's almost like running it off the boot partition.  Heck, I can probably just get rid of the partition install at this rate..  ^__^

Also applied a slight transparency on the Window so you can sorta see who's really calling the shots.  How ironic that it's the little mouse that's telling the cats what to do....  ^v^'

Kami-Tux

Quote from: "Bella"Okay. What is swap anyhow? Heehee...

if there is too few RAM for everything you have there, the OS can save some pages of the memory to disk and use the freed RAM for a different purpose. the place of the disk which stores these part of the memory is called swap.

Hay guys, new desktop, check it out:

Fixing the iconset took like half an hour due to StyleXP not liking me. -v- The wall, though was easily fixed by me from a crappy 640x480 screenshot to a 1024x768 wallpaper with even better quality in less than five minutes. Time paradox -w- Or is it just GIMP-Tan being way much hawter than StyleXP-tan? Better get around to drawing them sometime so i can compare...-v-

WAAAAAH!!!! You replaced the adorable Konata avi with that unidentified dude (where's he from anyway?).

On the other hand, KARTLOADS OF KUDOS for having Inkscape installed!  ^.^

*cheers*

*stares at Gummster's desktop*

WOOHOOO!!!!  Gummuntu graces this thread yet again!!!  ^v^
Lovely piece of instrument you got there.  ^___^

NejinOniwa

Hey! Are you mocking Gintoki-sensei?? He's the absolutely second best character Sugita Tomokazu ever voiced, second only because Kyon is GOD! (or well, er, more like, god's slave)
And he is from Gintama, btw, which is a must-see if you haven't already. Currently being subbed by Rumbel who are at ep 28 whilst the series are at its 59:th episode i think (still airing, omfz! greatness!), but the 22 first episodes are available from Shinsen...
...the first line in the series being "BLEACH!" from Kurosaki-kun makes it all kind of clear this is definitely the type of anime you laugh your sorry ass off quite quickly to.

And I've actually only used Inkscape once, for the H-NA logo...

*rant*
