that's where the theories thread comes into play. what i always encouraged there was less a discussion and more a courthouse-style meeting to come to a concensus on uncertain aspects of OS-tan, such as the world, their powers, a class system, etc. stuff that is accepted in all canon. in the case of -tans/-kuns that are based off computers that have little to no history available, we discuss in the history thread till we come to an agreement about certain aspects of their personality/history/backstory/etc.

That's a good point. I imagine this method would work best for characters who don't have much in the way of backstory, but are based on a reasonably well-documented system. : / After all, it's damned near impossible to make up a character history if there's no actual history of a system available short of flat-out inventing things, which *can*
work in some instances - especially if a character is from a well-established faction and you can discern certain things about their history from that - but can also go quite badly other times.

if she has no colour scheme, try looking up pics of the computer itself and go from there? (HT-tan's colours were imagined that way, with wood-brown hair and antique dial-beige eyes. :3)

That's another problem. I usually do base the color schemes of my hardware-tans on their actual computer hardware, here's only one documented image of the PC12 and it's in black and white. ;~;

i was thinking if we all agreed on it, inventing things wouldn't be a problem, since we could police each other's ideas.

as for the picture, google is stupid and won't give me the results i'm looking for (converting greyscale to rgb...idc if it's not correct, it's a start) so i'd say either look at other greyscale images of computers and compare to get a general feel for the colour, or scour google for images. i assume you haven't already.

If all else fails I can try to make up a color scheme based on her known relatives (sort of). She's loosely related to both PDP-8 and LINC-tan, who're both vaaaaaaaguely related to Whirlwind and MTC-tan:




As you can see, in that family there's black hair, orange hair, dark blonde hair, golden eyes and blue eyes, so ..... yeah. I don't want to give her black hair, since I've tried it in sketches and it doesn't look good on her. Orange may work, I tried a dark orange shade and hated it but maybe if I play around with different shades I'll find something that clicks. I'm leaning toward warm colored eyes too...

also, i noticed the malware-kun list is empty. i found evidence on malware-tan articles of the existance of an A-Bomb-kun and Cerberus-kun, and i imagine there's likely more. there's even an article for Ah-kun:

i think i might try my hand at characterizing some more -kun, specifically website-kuns. as it is google has no picture, and i remember seeing some male and female website pictures at some point....i believe wikipedia was a guy, as was facebook, google,  myspace, and i think yahoo. 4chan was a guy, too, but a tubby creeper who was into flashing people. (god, that DOES sound like 4chan. >>;;; )

Go for it! I enjoyed your articles on the Windows-kuns and learned a lot about them (and they inspired me to write articles for some of my male characters) so I'd like to see what magic you could work for even lesser-known characters.

thankyou. i'm glad i have something to contribute, i just wish i could recover the images from that drive, considering how many os-kun images there were. ;v;

fyi, if i were to go for characterizing some lesser-known OS-kuns (such as Wikipedia-kun), i'd likely be making up some of the details myself. (okay, i'd be making up most of them.) .___.;

That's fine, there's nothing wrong with a bit of fabrication when it comes to tackling lesser-known -tan designs. After all, most of the OSX-tans started out sans personalities, but ended up being given characters by the folks here at OSC (especially C-Chan and Aurora).


Anyway .... a few days ago I did a ton of cleanup work, sorting uncategorized articles into categories. Also, I finally posted this FREAKIN' LONG MULTICS-TAN ARTICLE that may not even be finished yet. x.x

Hopefully this fills in her history and background a bit better.
