So, while pondering the continuation of the Mertvaya-tan story for a little, I began to wonder on the nature of the other kinds of computers in her time...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_computer_hardware_in_Soviet_Bloc_countries
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Setun
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BESM

The second one in particular got me very, very interested indeed. And with that as vantage point (and proven interest from my dear Labs), I decided to spare us yet another offtopic fork in the IBM thread, and spin it off over here.

So now - in Soviet Russia, computers -tan you.

. . . Z:3

Anyway, starting off with a rough copypasta of Mertvaya-tan's profile, seeing as she most definitely qualifies for being here.

First of all, keep in mind that I did this with no respect at all to any sort of anatomical correctness (since I suck so greatly at drawage in the first place, I didn't bother this time) of her body. Yes, she has a franken-hand, but that's supposed to be the "Dead Hand" hand - more on that later.

Her basic outfit is almost a clean copy of the Russian army jacket, with slight alteration: instead of the laurels on the collar, I changed it to the crossed arrows of the Russian Federation Strategic Rocket Forces' insignia (since I presume this is the Rod she belongs to) in a slightly original design. Other than that, I haven't thought much up - I suppose you could change colors (instead of the army green) on the jacket or something - the sword-and-shield/sunburst/whatever that round thing is of the SRF's insignia is hung around her neck like a medallion, and the enormous coat is supposed to be a bearskin coat (and thus brown and fluffy).

The clothing aside, my main point of the design is her appearance and facial features - the short platina/white hairdo, the ENORMOUS eyebags and her generally looking like someone who's been sleeping yet missing out on sleep for the last 2 decades or so (since that is effectively what she has been doing).

A few additions to her personality list:
The thing with her hiding her normal hand in her pockets is a bit of thing with her, as she was born in a bunker and maint'ed by an all-male staff (as neither Soviet nor Russian armies have/had female conscripts) and thus has a pretty skewed look at the entire sense of female-ness. I'm thinking her reasoning would be something in the line of; "Sure, it might not work properly, but at least my right hand is the right size. The other one looks like a baby hand, none must be let to see!" or something. I'm also thinking the same for her chest - she's not a complete pettanko, and while she may not be the most well-endowed of the OS-tans, it's enough to make it quite obvious. The solution? Sarashis. Or the like. Lots of them.

As for her face looking like a creepy emo ghost or whatnot, the "bunker kid" stuff does that to you, I'd say.
(the rest of the stuff is discussion, read through here.)

And with that, I declare the Soviet -tans-thread officially open. ПозвольÑ,е начаÑ,ÑŒ с игры!

so setun should have a third eye.
BESM should likely be sisters, being that there's 6 versions.

that's all i really got for now, but good picks man. setun sounds awesome. i might claim her. >:3

Bella

Hello pplz, BESM-tan exists!

She's the one farthest to the right.

Also, I'd like to avoid gimmickiness with Setun and the ternary-ness thing; I've no ideas for her though, so I'll step out of this conversation. -v-

Never mind, Bells beat me to the 'BESM-already-exists' thing.

Don't forget the Elektronika's... I swore I'd get around to doing them.  I haven't.

On the topic of Setun - seeing as she is the SOLE ternary computer ever designed/built, something more drastic than just a third eye feels appropriate here...
The concept, to me, is a step in the alien-scifi-ish feeling of quantum computers and the like, so something more like that seems proper - EXTREME POWER LEVELS maybe, but something of that degree is necessary, imo.

Aurora Borealis

There should also be a three-theme to her outfit and hairstyle.

Dr. Kraus

Oh hell yea I'm getting into this!

I actually named my server Mertvaya Ruka for the hell of it.
Defenatly get do some design for this!

This post is classified information.
For those who care, Setun is semi-claimed by me for story purposes. Anyone surprised should eat a bucket of paint.

setun...........three faces? my sister had a character who had a doll like that, each face had a different emotion and they switched around depending on the doll's mood.

elektronika.........popular? doesn't talk much due to lack of programs/programming capability, if she DOES get talkative she loses sight in one eye (memory upgrade limited screen space for some reason), when DVK-tan is with her she can be social with no loss. friends with DVK-tan and UKNC-tan (moreso DVK).
elektronika shipped with RT-11 (modified).....maybe some relationship there, or maybe with ANDOS (also compatible with ANDOS)

"Video output on all models was provided by the K1801VP1-037 VDC, a rather spartan chip" (lulz, we need to play on this)
cannot write on her own. (incapable of text output w/o outside help)
patchwork clothing? (modding was popular and even became it's own industry)
older models lack skin in some places and only speak FOCAL programming language, next has skin problems fixed and speaks a limited form of BASIC in addition to FOCAL.
could be adapted for home, office, school, or industrial use
newest models cannot converse with older models, and even if they could, it would be VERY limited

status: alive in emulation

since i mentioned them, we should throw DVK and UKNC in there:

also, useful to this cause:

This also needs some work.
Notable features include the fact that she used a common household tape recorder for data storage, the odd nature of her frame buffer/display system, her not having an OS of her own (bootloader only) and her surprisingly versatile nature (numerous official and 3p hardware extensions available).

Seems interesting, methinks.
