Welp, looking at the Source thread, I think an update and more organized list of links out is in order.
Many links taken from here: http://ostan.blackdiam.net/viewtopic.php?p=2330
Plus a few of the ones I have found.
Feel free to add links or talk about them. I will edit the first post as necessary.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any mishaps when you boss or mom sees when you go on some of these sites. I have labeled some NSFW, however, I have only had a cursory look at these sites and cannot guarantee their NFSW-ness.
....This probably applies to very few active members, tho. haha

Great list! Very helpful! I think we should add a links section to this site!
Good job with the organization. That helps me alot cause i still don't know much about the OS-tans ^_^
Nice collection, I never got around to pool some links on my own. ;010
glad to help guys! Does anybody need assitance in navigating these sites? Usually artists' galleries are labeled 'CG' or 'gallery'
Otherwise just click around...
Oh right, forgot this thread.... ^__^
Thank you SleepyD! ^v^
This will be EXTREMELY useful for the new Picture Gallery Operation! ^.^
Whoa, marvellous work indeed, SleepyD-san! Maybe we should have a links sub-forum or if not a whole subforum, at least I'll sticky this thread (or make it an announcement, if that seems to fit it better). ^__^
Thank you for your work. I didn't get to check the links I didn't know yet, as I've only three more minutes before class start, but this is really appreciated. ^^
Thanks a bunch, SleepyD, for all these links! So many links yet so little time, but I shall commence exploring them tonight.
;010
=^..^=
you're all very welcome.
And you're all free to suggest more links to add to this list. ^^
Sorry for the double postage, but....
Well while looking for language-tans, I seem to have discovered a Japanese OS/2-tan, whose creator has named ã¾~りんã¡ã‚Æ'ã‚“ (Ma~rin-chan/Merlin-chan)
Certainly a lot cuter that what we have made her out to be. ^^
http://www.f-team.org/merlin/html/apps.html
=>Images from the same site (http://www.f-team.org/merlin/html/view.html)
=>Can't find her? This should make things easier (http://www.f-team.org/merlin/img/11020732.jpg)
also discovered a Japanese artist who uses OS/2 named Achain
Home page: WARNING: NSFW! (http://www.serina.org/~achain/index.html.en)
=>Here's the OS/2 section that's SFW check his softwares page! (http://www.serina.org/~achain/os2/index.html.en)
This serves a second purpose in getting the newbies aware of this. ^^
And, if you all have links to add, feel free to PM me or post in this thread
Thank you SleepyD for scoping this out. ^__^
*studies pages*
*worried face*
Hmm, this is strange. '__'
If you notice carefully, the creator seems to be selling some sort of mixed media novel (which includes at least some 3D). Probably would explain why we've never seen this OS/2 4-tan before (OS/2 v.4 was apparently nicknamed "Merlin"), since this is technically proprietary work. ^^'
Moreover, the artist also redesigned a completely different Windows NT-tan, so unless the artist is intending to redesign all the other Windows characters, that's like setting up another Deja Vu moment... ^^'
Granted the characters are extremely cute, and it seems the creator has put an awful lot of work into this.... I'm still not sure if we're gonna be able to use this. ;__;
Until more research can be done, we'll just safely call her OS/2 Warp 4-tan for now. ^^'
This might actually be an interesting topic to post up at the OS-tan Wiki. ^__^
(As well as the artist who uses OS/2, and made those very interesting banners.... -v-)
Speaking of which, did you know I ported your excellent link collection over to the old PMWiki? ^__^
http://ostan-collections.net/pmwiki/index.php?n=Main.OS-TanLinks
I'll be sure to do the same with the new MediaWiki version. ^v^
No I was not aware of that....
Thanks! I'll be sure to clean it up when we get the MediaWiki up
Note than Ma~rin-chan does have blue hair and glasses:
http://www.f-team.org/merlin/img/11061508.jpg
That OS/2 Warp that artist drew is very cute but I like C-Chan's vengeful-natured Star Trek-inspired rendition better though.
Cutesy and cheerful-looking for an OS-tan whose OS got screwed over by her companies doesn't really compute, IMO.
I was looking for a design for OS/2-tan when she was younger (back in her pre-3.0 days in the 80's), so when I first saw your link I was very excited at the prospect of using the Merlin-chan design somehow. ^__^
(like you pointed out, they do have similarities)
But again, until more research can be done, it's probably safer that I keep my distance. Eventually I should consider writing to this creator and asking what his/her position is on free OS-tans versus his/her own work. '__'
(The links section doesn't even seem to point to Futaba, Niijura or anything like that... '__'; )
The cutesiness, btw, comes from the fact that the creator's novel seems to analogize the OS market as some sort of fantasy high-school setting. The pairing of Warp 4-tan and this bunny-eared NT-tan reminds me a bit of the Mayuko/NieA duo from 'NieA Under 7'. ^^
I won't say that our design is better or that Warp 4's design is inappropriate... the cute design, coupled with a the crisp color and vibrant detail, have a definitive mass market appeal. ^__^
But until we receive confirmation otherwise, our design is the "free-est" one we've got, and that being said also the most flexible.
If anyone want to change her clothing, lower her age, make her more colorful, and crank up the cuteness factor, they're more than free and encouraged to do so. ^__^
In the end, the only thing I'm really looking for is education, since so few people may realize all these systems exist. -v-
looking into it more, this is a dojin. And since the first one appeared at C59 (Comiket #59), this translates to the first instance of Marin-chan appearing by at least December of 2000.
As a dojin group the only way they'd get known is either through the internet or through Comiket.
On another note, this seems to be a mahou shoujo kinda thing, if my inferences from these pics are correct. A normal looking schoolgirl OS/2-tan transforms into a girl with pink hair and a microphone.
(And if those pigtails were let down, she would have rather lengthy hair)
.....maybe I'll play with the idea of a cute OS/2 during programming class. She'd have to wear those big circular glasses. muaha.
Woah, 2000?
I thought the OS-tan phenomenon began later in 2003 or so... '__'
This would certainly predate that....
Did you inadvertently stumble upon an ancestrial OS-tan, and just our luck it happens to be OS/2-sama? ^__^
*squeals with delight*
In any case, can't jump to conclusions.... -v-
For now, we'll take it for what it probably is.... an independent commerical work outside of the OS-tan phenomenon, but nonetheless an excellent source of new inspiration. ^.^
And fantastic Wiki material, for sure! ^v^
BTW, please please pretty please let me see your sketches when you're done! This is going to be trés sugoi! ^v^
I do believe that achain from: http://www.serina.org/~achain/index.html.en

lol, well, this thread's supposed to be about a bunch of links OS-tan and OS-tan related material. "related" being a rather broad term, if you've seen a few of the links in the first post
...and that's a rather gruesome story.
jeabus wtf?!?! Mr Cat.... im gonna need therapy thanks -_- But yeah.. that should have been a thread in and of itself
You're probably right, Captain, but what I was thinking was that it was time for me to weigh in on the bacon/C-Chan issue you two have been on about. So I figured an article about a pig farmer gone bad might contain a hidden lesson for those apt to take advantage of our porcine fellow Earthlings ââ,¬â€ or something like that.

Hello from Japan,
Warp-tan took me to this forum.
The author of Merlin-chan is my friend so I know whole history of her. I don't think she is a member of OS-tans because she is not a girl-shaped OS itself but a magical girl (such as Pretty Sammy) who needs OS/2 power instead of magical stick. She is very famous mascot character among OS/2 user in Japan...only among OS/2 users in Japan.
I saw another proposal of OS/2-tan only once at Futaba few years ago. She had twin-tails hair and put black-gothic dress. It was so cute and very impressive for me...but I couldn't find OS/2-related things on her...except /2win-tails...
Now I like C-Chan's Warp-tan and eCS-tan, so please foster them.

(No no no, this is no to time to faint. Be strong, C-chan.... -v-)[nervously] We-Welcome to the O-OS-tan Collections Forum. ^^
We are very happy,... no, thrilled... no,
excited to have you join us! ^v^

Thank you very much for clearing that up. ^v^
I'm glad at least we were almost on the right track, but it's always better to know the facts as they are sooner than later. ^__^
In a way, I'm happy to know that the work of Merlin-chan's author is safe, as some OS-tan fans have been known to be hostile to whatever they think are alternative designs of their beloved characters. NT-tan is a good example. ^.^
It is very superb artwork -- if it's not too much trouble, please convey our praise to Merlin-chan's author. And if he's willing to ship overseas, I love to buy some of it as well. ^__^
I only use OS/2 a little at work, and play with my eComstation Demo at home, but at least this is enough to embellish that she's famous among an OS/2 user outside of Japan. ^________^;
If that's okay with the author, of course. ^^'
QuoteI saw another proposal of OS/2-tan only once at Futaba few years ago. She had twin-tails hair and put black-gothic dress. It was so cute and very impressive for me...but I couldn't find OS/2-related things on her...except /2win-tails...
Then I'll make it my mission to find this OS/2-tan design. ^__^
I don't like saying I'm the first to create this OS-tan or that OS-tan, because my search abilities aren't that good to begin with, and the OS-tan world is very large and (from our vantage) not fully explored. -.-
I still have the suspicion that another AmigaOS-tan that predates mine is floating around out there somewhere.... ^__^
If I find them, I want to make sure everyone here knows about them. For the little-known OS-tans that aren't Windows, it's much better to cooperate in making a unique an interesting character, than to compete on the design only. ^v^
QuoteNow I like C-Chan's Warp-tan and eCS-tan, so please foster them.
Thank you very much, Achain-sama! ^__^
*bows*
*...twice for eCS-tan*
I'm afraid I cheat too much, so I can't really say they're any good without being dishonest. ^^'
But I greatly appreciate your compliment. ^__^
I also adore your work as well! ^v^
The OS/2 banners you made are nicely done and the artwork is exquisite. ^.^
http://www.serina.org/~achain/os2/index.html.en
Very well then, I'll do my best to create more drawings of OS/2-tan and eCS-tan immediately! ^v^
Tonight, in fact, I'll draw a cute montage I've been meaning to draw for weeks now. ^__^
Thanks to you, my motivation has been supercharged. ^v^
ãÂÅ'ã‚“ã°りã¾ãÂâ,,¢Ã¯Â¼Âãâ,¬â,¬Ã£â,¬â,¬^0^
If you would be willing to stay around for a little longer, I would very much like to consult with you about OS/2 the system.
I still know so little about how it works and spend too much energy drawing OS-tans for many other different systems that it's hard for me to get to know any single one very well. ^__^'
I feel like I would be missing out on the chance to make funny or cool references about OS/2. ^__^
Until then, please make yourself at home. ^v^
Added after 14 hours 8 minutes: I'm happy to report that some progress was made on a very familiar style of montage. ^__^
But still a work in progress, and shown here only in 640x480 to abide by forum rules... -.-
(http://www.verytragicalmirth.com/Images/A$C.png)
C-Chan talks a lot more than I do. ^^
Like C-Chan, I am very interested in the design you saw on Futaba....
Thanks for telling us who Merlin-chan is. ^^
Although, now I'm picturing Merlin-chan commanding OS/2-tan to do things... haha XD;
And achain, I must compliment you on your English. I honestly did not expect you to come, let alone speak fluently! ^^;;
Edit:
Now that I've looked through your site thoroughly, I guess it's expected, since you do have quite a bit of English. ^^;;;;;;;;;
Fufufu,.. you mean you didn't scan his site inch-by-inch like I did, looking for OS/2 goodness? Bow your head in shame, SleepyD..... ^___^
But yes, you took the words right out of my mouth on both respects (down to commanding her to do things,.... ^v^).
And ME? Took a lot? Surely you jest. ^.^
Bet it's just the extra padding from the picture that's making the post look big. -v-
BTW, SleepyD, biiiiiiiiiiiiig favor to ask of you.... ^v^
By any chance, are you gonna use your sketch of the multi-tasking chibi OS/2-tan? (The one where she's painting, sculpting, killing viruses, etc?)
I'd like to ink that for you if you don't mind. ^__^
C-Chan, SleepyD, thank you for welcoming me.
First, if this is off topic for this thread, please guide me to better place.
I didn't save the proposal of Warp-tan at Futaba. I'm calling my memory and it probably looked like this (http://www.serina.org/~achain/nutworks/room1/display.ynari.en?show=50). I have tried to find the image again for many times at everywhere but it fails. And in addition, the proposal image didn't seem to be drawn by the proposer. Maybe he picked a game CG or something and just put "OS/2 Warp" logo onto it. It didn't get comments at all.
I'm running OS/2 related web site in Japan and have connections between some worldwide OS/2 webmasters. So if we need to ask OS/2 users something, please let me do it. Most of OS/2 users are old enough to hesitate 2D stuff, however. (OS2World.com (http://www.os2world.com/) is polling to ask which animal is good to be eComStation's mascot....eh, animal!?)
Should I list unique points of OS/2 here?
- Branched from same root of WinNT.
- User says "OS/2 is very stable". doubtful in many cases...
- Many companies used to use it for mission critical system (e.g. automated teller machine of bank).
- GUIed OS but requires small memory. (I tried 8MB system. It took 20 minutes to boot...but it did work!)
- Enough modern OS (DVD playable, DVD burnable, Firefox workable, USB usable) but nobody knows.
- IBM stopped OS/2 support at end of 2006. ;014

I set it to my server's wallpaper (http://www.serina.org/~online/desktop.html.en)(^^)

I used to have an OS/2-tan thread, but it's now locked since I consolidated all my -tan threads into a single one called "The OS-tan Annex Project". Consider it as my prototype "Wiki", before the real OS-tan Wiki was made. ^___^'
Short of creating a new OS/2-tan thread, how about we continue our discussions there for the time being? ^v^

I desired to visit the first famous site on which OS-TANs were born, but when I load the page, and clik on ENTER, then I receive as return only this message:

Is it normal to get usually 403 by Futaba, or is it dead, or perhaps just closed to people who are not registered?

Odd, I can see it just fine. Did you try refreshing it? If that doesn't work... I'm stumped. Maybe use a proxy? o_o

I'm here~~.
Yes, "Futaba channel" should point to *.2chan.net.
However, it's hard to collect OS-tan stuff from the site because there are a lot of image boards on it and hundreds of posting are done in a minute.
Outside OS-tan Hokanko (storage) sites concentrate to collect OS-tan stuff from Futaba (and Nijiura) as much as possible. On the other hand these sites have a trouble in traffic amount. I heard it could be over 10GB per single site a day. Thus they actively shut out first-timers and/or oversea accesses.

speaking of achain, did you see his OS/2 tan pic?
Two words: MORE OS/2!
*thinks*
On second thought, more C64 and PET! Better RED than IBM!
You mean this one here?
Or the ones in the Nanjaku gallery?
I know the top one is probably the one achain saw a while back ago, and that looked suspiciously like a character pulled from some manga.
The Nanjaku ones, though, I never got a chance to discuss. ;___;
*sigh*

Actually,... this time you're in luck. I really am gonna work on a PET-chan picture next. ^___^
Actually, it'll be her paired with Apple II-tan and Atari 8-bit-tan. I hope to finally have the trio together, so I can better visualize them in a future micro-OVA. -v-
Besides, the more OS/2-tan part will be covered once I finish that montage. Kinda hard to do with no cheers of support. and a helluva lot of things to distract me with -.-'
*long siiiigh*
*siiiiigh* Well, for all it's worth, I'm finally finished with that pic.... -v-
(Have to thank the nice Inkscape people for adding blurring effects to the latest version. ^.^)

Praise the Pig.... ^v^
Guo Nian hao! Happy new year.
F - Y - I,... The /C-chan is now officially one VERY HAPPY camper! ^v^

Now all we need is for the Great Penguin God to sing "Ode to OS/2 Users", and the circle will be complete. ^.^
Me? Singing an Ode to OS/2?
Praised be JFS, OS/2's journaling filesystem, for IBM released its layout and the Linux-crew started supporting it.
Certere Censeum Microsoftem esse deledam!
*clap clap clap*
Bless you, oh great Penguin God, for that beautiful oration.... ^.^
Though OS/2 may be gone thanks to those IBM bastards, her spirit will live on in eCS-tan, who shall continue the struggle to bring down the monopolistic M$. -v-
Now that the circle is complete, my mission in life is complete. I can die in peace now. ^__^
*trots off to die*
.....
Oh wait no, I forgot,
Still need to finish Unix-sama..... -____-'
.....
And Plan 9-tan, and Inferno-tan....
And my renditions of FreeBSD and OpenBSD, plus NetBSD and DragonflyBSD....
Oh, and then there's little AROS-chan that needs to be worked on....
And the remaining Commodores....
Solaris-tan need her battle suit done....
OH Hell! And speaking of battles, I haven't worked on any CIOST member! What's the OS-tan world without a VMS-tan?!!
And then the mainframes,... to leave out z/OS is sacrilege.... @__@
Dear GAWD, it just never ends! ^^;
Yoooooo~ssu, minnasan! ^-^ Nejin has good newssu for ye-ssu!
<,<

(sumimasen, will try some ixnay-on-the-ssu-thing from now on ^-^;)
Anyways...
During my quest to get as much os-tan material as possible, i decided to try "breaking in" to the futaba-ostan servers. This didn't go very well, but after a translating i saw the regulated overseas-access notice, and decided to screw that up a bit. Y'know, proxy.
So after trying out some useless stupid software i finally got things to work accordingly (at least to some degree). And one thing, i say:
KEY ITEM AQUIRED!
The thing with the futaba-ostan image shacks is that while they are indexed and stuff on the futaba-ostan servers and thus access-restricted (the "sub" file, the sidebar index), the image archives themselves are in fact localized at Kazumi386.org, and are totally open for anyone. So instead of making ye all screw your minds up with proxy servers whenever you want access, i'll provide ye with some half-direct linkage to the archives themselves (unfortunately with the way i'm doing this direct linkage will be a pain-in-the-a-s-s to fix, sorry). You won't get the fancy sidebar and thus won't be able to browse as swiftly as usual, but i'll give you a little how-to on this.
Warning: The below instructions can be very annoying at times and are only a measure for those of you with no other way of browsing around these places. If you HAVE an available proxy server, anonymity software or otherwise don't need ways around the block manually, just find your way around from HERE: http://www.futaba-ostan.com/os_archive2/link/link.htm
First, of course, you'll need the root address for all the archives. They are as follows:
http://kazumi386.org/~os_archive1/os_archive2/image/
http://kazumi386.org/~ostan2/os_archive_adult/image/
Of course, the last one is obviously nsfw, but i'll put it in for the record anyways. There are degrees of nsfw-ness in the first one as well but it is not an adult gallery as such, and can be scrolled through without much "danger". Um.
Next, you will need the available archive folders.
These are the following...
NORMAL GALLERY:
/31/sam.php (3.1-tan)
/95/sam.php (95-sama)
/98/sam.php (Hacchan & Secchan)
/2k/sam.php (2k-tan)
/me/sam.php (Me-chan)
/yamada/sam.php (Yamada, the alt. win98 tan design)
/pizza/sam.php ("Pizza", who seems to be a pizza-themed clone of 2k-tan, i dunno, but apparently she's a popular meme)
/we/sam.php (We-tan, the "reverse" Me-chan)
/xp_pro/sam.php (Saseko)
/xp_home/sam.php (Homeko)
/ce/sam.php (CE-tan)
/long/sam.php (The standard "Sailor" Vis-tan and Visbou (ninja vista), not many "alternate" designs)
/negiko/sam.php (Linux and Lindows -tans)
/ostans/sam.php (Group pics)
/hage/sam.php (Antivirus-tans)
/other/sam.php (Other -tans)
ADULT GALLERY:
/95/sam.php (95-sama)
/98/sam.php (Hacchan & Secchan)
/2k/sam.php (2k-tan)
/me/sam.php (Me-chan)
/xp_pro/sam.php (Saseko)
/xp_home/sam.php (Homeko)
/long/sam.php (Vistans)
/ostans/sam.php (Group pics)
Then simply take one of the root addresses and pair them with a corresponding archive link, and press the magic button. (or something.)
I am lazy right now so i'm doing it this way - but if anyone can get up a better way from this stuff (like direct links) it would be very appreciated - by everyone, i think (since nobody wants to stick with this crappy method, right?), and certainly by me.
BUT! THERE IS MORE!!!
http://kazumi386.org/~os_archive1/sub2.htm
http://kazumi386.org/~os_archive1/sub3.htm (NSFW)
I also found these two; they have their "sub" indexes on the Kazumi386 servers, but due to my screwed-up proxy server settings and annoying futaba-ostan redirects, i couldn't get ahold of the entry url:s, so you won't be able to have the "sub" as an actual sidebar index unless you can get around it somehow. Good luck on that, i'm too lazy right now ^-^;
I also got this one over at the futaba-ostan.com link page above...too lazy and late at night for me to classify though - anyone could do that, please? Also my browser doesn't like the text format.

I've found it!
I remember some while ago when someone, can't remember who (or if it even was here, might even have been over at Wakachan), but he/she/it posted a pic of a potential winamp-tan. Then someone else asked whether there was any OS-tan winamp skins. Then the thread fell into obscurity, for some reason.
Well...you can see it coming now, can't you?

Found it, as almost everything else, through random chance and clicking of links. It's old and not updated anymore (but since it's designed the same and seems to be a sort of companion site with the old nijiura gallery, there might be another, newer gallery somewhere), but there's still stuff there for lotsa download! Booyah!
huh, I remember that site, but I remember the winamp skins being a dead link....
interesting.
Hello SleepyD. I need your expertise. Since the Wiki is offline at the moment, there's no way for me to cross-reference it with your master list. ^__^
But for the time being, have you come across this site before?
http://wiki.nijiura.com/index.php/tw95/?TopPage
As a matter of fact, I have. ^^
I don't believe I have it linked tho. I just used the wiki in order to find other sites. (copying and pasting the japanese titles and using them in searches, for example) It's a nice resource, and when the wiki does go back online, feel free to add it.
I've been extremely busy as of late..... -_-
Thank you, SleepyD. -v-
Once Fedora-dono fixes our Wiki, we'll rock-paper-scissor to see who adds it. ^^
that is, provided I'm still there when the wiki is up. Otherwise, you win by default. XD
nice list, I will visit everyone ;hi

And this one has "-tan" all over it, but I don't get it: http://d.hatena.ne.jp/keyword/%CB%A8%A4%A8%B5%BC%BF%CD%B2%BD
I really don't know whether it's computer straight or OS-tan, but it might be neither one or one that talks about both if possible. We need a translator.
