Title: Missing windows OS Tans
Post by: OS Freak on December 31, 2009, 05:09:53 AM
I have yet not seen art from these: Windows Home Server & Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs. Any ideas. Also were are the Kuns version of these too? Any ideas?

The home server-tans are probably the same as the normal server-tans, and the Legacy PC ones... well... can't those just be the normal Windows-tans dressed down a little bit? (Granted, I once saw one for XP LPC, it was a small dark-skinned girl in a sundress).

Uh hu perhaps FLPC could be a slimmer, slightly more younger looking xp using windows default coloring instead of the Luna colors. Home server yeah might be like other servers, but I wish someone could draw all the servers in human version not in tiny loli fish versions. The kuns of servers must be horrible lol. If I could I would draw them. Perhaps through this post I can make a fan request an encourage those who draw to at least draw one.

THERE WAS AN ANCIENT POST SOMEWHERE AROUND HERE ABOUT THEM, I HAVE AN ANCIENT SKETCH OF W.F.L.P.C. AROUND, BUT IZ NOT COLOURED YET.

ALMOST DESIGNED A HOME SERVER, BUT THERE WAS SO MUCH DESIGN CONTROVERSY THAT I GAVE UP.

THAT IS ALL.

Yeah we are on that but just I don't know how to draw to help you. But yes it's quite rare they don't have artwork being old oses already. Even DOS and 3.1 have artwork and are older.

That bottom one can't be Saba-san.  The hilt of her sword is a PlayStation controller.

^ THAT'S what I thought, but the original artist at +nijura+ called it Server 2003-tan. O.o

Gotta admit she definitely has a likeness to Server 2003-tan-- the PS controller sword is probably some sort of weird in-joke or something.

Seconding Bella's theory here. Besides, it could just be about any controller from what I see, but meh.

i've heard of people controlling computers with game controllers. so maybe it's not too far off.

can someone remind me of the colour specs for WFLPC? someone said red hair and green eyes i think.

and i think i'll just make a home-server myself and submit. ik you wanna help, but whenever we all pool our suggestions we all turn into backseat drivers in terms of art. :[ remember the collections-tan fiasco?

I remember the OSC-tan fiasco. A lot of us had very different ideas for character design and personality, and never came to consensus. That created some conflict that never got properly resolved, just forgotten altogether.

Well FLPC is a thin client and a slim XP so the windows desktop even Luna's design is the same. How about making a really unique windows. There is yet a Windows with Red hair if red is 95 then there is none with Brown hair. Also, there are no windows with orange or pink hair. (pink does not cout as the scarse vista pink girl. That design is not even canon) No more Green please, we already have windows 1, ME, Homeko & Vista Home Basic with those colors. Silver might be also a good color Luna desktop style comes in 3 colors Default Blue (XP Professional), Olive Green (XP Home), Silver (XP FLPC). I vote for a design using Luna style Silver. ;019

Silver hair sounds good.

BTW, 95-tan's hair color varies from brown, to reddish-brown, to orange. Saba-tan has pink hair, but it's more of a magenta shade. But aside from some pink-haired Vistans, there aren't any canon Windows-tans with light pink hair, so that could work too.

ok, silver it is. the red i had in mind was saba-esque anyway.

also, there IS a tan with brown hair. there is a representaton of windows one that has brown hair. (AFTER MUCH SEARCHING FINALLY FOUND IT) (http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?album=18&pos=22)

anyhoo, silver hair, i will try to remember (also has portfolio and comik for AB looming over mee........  ._______.; )

Let's not forget: 97-tan (http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?album=8&pos=73) has brown hair as well.

Light brown, at least.

I always thought 97-tan had the same colour hair as 95-san.  So we now have three brunette -tans.
Title: Missing windows OS Tans
Post by: Aurora Borealis on January 11, 2010, 02:29:42 PM
There's also 95 OSR 2.1-tan and OSR 2.5-tan, bringing the total # of brown-haired Windows-tans to 4 or 5 (there are two Windows 1.0-tan designs, one has brown hair, the other has green).

I don't think any others have been spotted...?

Besides, she was made here, wasn't she? OS/2. It'd be strange for there to be a double...

Yeah OSTAN-collections is her birthplace. But I meant representing the other variables of the OS/2 for example she is the only OS/2 Tan wich ranges the representation since OS/2 1 to OS/2 Warp 4 . It's like making a Windows Tan that represents from MSDOS to Windows 7.

Well no, because MSDOS was its own OS and is in no way, shape or form related to the VMS/Windows NT-heritaged Windows 7.

But there has to be a limit of how many -tans you have for a single OS or OS family. I mean, Windows XP SP 1, 2, 3 etc. have some major system differences, and yet we consider them all the same character.

In non-canon (and I really dont give a damn about canon v. non-canon), we represent Bell Labs Unix-tan as one character covering Unix development from 1969 UNICS, then all the Research Unix variations (Version 5, 6, 7), all the way up the the VASTLY different System V Unix. We show OpenVMS and VMS-tan as the same character too, OpenVMS-tan being the modern incarnation of VMS-tan.

What I'm trying to say is, instead of making different -tans for the same basic OS, we should focus on making representing the character differently in different parts of her life.

In the case of OS/2-tan, we have her 1980s self, represented as a girl in a schoolgirl-like outfit and pigtails...

there's a version for after her departure with M$, when she's still a professional businesswoman, and there's the last version in her "Warp" self where she dresses in the Star Trek-inspird clothing.

I'd sure as hell rather do this than have to think up and draw up a whole spritzload of new OS/2-tans and have to awkwardly fit them into my story ideas.

But you're free to do whatever you want... that's just my take on it.

Bell-chan is quite right on this one - overloading different -tans for the same system isn't a worthwhile practice. Aside from Mac OS, where the early ones didn't have any names but "Mac OS n" something, there isn't any need whatsoever for such a measure.

the thing is, we rep certian OSes by just one because frankly, there are so many, i doubt we could -tan them all.

XP Embedded looks like XP, only smaller and crammed into various devices like ATMs, slot machines and cash registers.

Ah yes. I did ATM serviceman protection for a time and one of the repair techs mentioned it was running XP. When you look inside an ATM its basicly a really big computer case  with built in printer and such, same standard components.

hee hee. someone shoving XP into an ATM or Slot machine.....

or, since it's XP, a vending machine may be moar appropriate. :\

oh, i just remembered (while reading these posts) that we DO have one silver-haired windows-tan. DOSV.

anyway, i'm out from school today, without much to do, so i'll start work on the WFLPC-tan. :3

Windows FLP is based on the windows xp embedded code and some of it's internal parts mark it as xp pro since some of the desktop parts added to it are from the pro tools. heck FLP even recycles the xp boot screen and not vista's blank one. XP embedded is a custom build edition of windows xp pro that can have every part removed or recoded.
Windows home server is built over windows server 2003 R2 so a recolored 2k3 saba-tan would work done in the whs colors.

i drew and coloured them....though i may re-do home server eventually. :\

unlike the other servers, who are based off of random fish, home server is based off of a rainbow trout. (truth be told, i sorta started colouring her hair without thinking, but when i made the first stroke i was like, "crap, SABA-chan has red hair too!!" so i tried to make it as fire-engine red as i could. if i re-colour her i might make it green (home server, homeko ect. xD)
WFLPC-tan, since she's based off of xp pro, resembles her slightly, though i tried to give er more of a university-style uniform. (only after creation and colouring did i realize that she looks suspiciously similar to homeko-chan. -__-; ) she also boasts sayo aisaka's hair colour. >:3
(http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i98/Chocofreak13/windowsforlegacypcs-tan.jpg)
sorry the colour on this one is so faint. :\

Very cute, and glad to see them drawn, and in full color! :)

Home Server-tan looks to be the most daring of the Windows Server-tans! The Server-tans are based off of the mackerel, since 'saba' means 'mackerel', but rainbow trout are cooler, and something different! :)

WFLPC-tan looks like a cross between XP Pro and Homeko (yet even cuter!), but I think she'd be much more mild-mannered than both of them, and something of a minimalist.

her expression says "mild-mannered". :3 so does the sayo aisaka hair. :3
