A magnitude 7.1 aftershock has just hit Fukushima prefecture, though thankfully the nuclear plant was not damaged further.

What was that we said when the volcano erupted, that it could hardly get any worse?

Rec-ti-fied. -_-;

Mission 51: Defeated

US History II exam: Completed with five minutes to spare.  I need to stop writing so much for the essay questions.

Huzzah! And I see somebody has a new avi/sig combo. >v<

The thunderstorms have passed, but it was really loud out there this morning...

stewartsage

Yes, someone does.  At least, the signature picture changed.  The link's the same.  Is the text readable on the avatar?

It's bright and sunny.  But also warm.  Like, tepid tea warm.  It's not optimal.

NejinOniwa

Barely readable here, despite perfect vision and all. Then again my 18,4" monitor is a bit small for its 1080p resolution, so meh.

Oh, also this.

Hey, that's not so bad.  Those damn burkas creep me out.

it's their culture. i find it a tad offensive that you're being so callouss about things like that recently. >:[

besides, i think sometimes they look pretty.

(but i agree, while i respect the right to wear them, they creep me out too. ;^; )

It's also bad for them to wear them from a legal standpoint.  There are a lot of cases in Britain where the woman's relative (male or female, quite often the husband) dons the burka so they can masquerade as the afforementioned woman to pass driving tests, etc.  Also, when a burka-wearing woman is required to give evidence in court, it makes it harder on the judge and jury.  They need to see emotion on her face and see her reations to questions or statements.  All the while she could be lying through her teeth while silently laughing at them and they wouldn't have a clue.  Or it might not even be her at all.

Let's not forget the sexism involved.  There are some muslim countries where it is a crime for a woman to be out in public not wearing her burka.  The punishment is usually stoning, which can often lead to death.  It doesn't help that a lot of the women believe it is a good thing for them to wear them and for the husbands to be so posessive, because it's appreantly his way of showing he loves them and wants to protect them.  They're brainwashed from birth with this sort of thing.  It's as stupid as the western christain women who are brought up to believe that they are inferior to men and should know their place.

Yes, humans are stupid, Red-kun. It's a well established fact.

Sexism in wrong in ANY religion, philosophical or political system and while I think it's wrong for any belief system to say to women "you MUST cover your hair/face/legs/etc" I also think it's wrong for the government to say women CAN'T. That should be the decision of an individual, not something dictated by the state or a religious institution...

(Full disclosure: if it were socially acceptable, I'd probably own a burqa and wear it on occasion; it'd probably be really warm in the winter, and, I could wear it out and not have to wonder who's looking at me/thinking what about me...)

stewartsage

Nej, that only matters if there's
life on mars.

Chocofreak13
