Well, this place died pretty quick.

Pitkin

At least it wasn't painful. xP

NejinOniwa

That depends solely on the material used for the nscp...and besides, stagnation in power flow is a pretty painful process on my side too. Gives me a real headache, the closer proximity the greater effect. I'd appreciate some flux, just to make sure the waves keep going.

So yesterday at the Forest Festival displays in the city park. (which is what I was doing instead of posting here) I was not disappointed in my reaffirmation of love for America.

Where else you can get home grown honey, quilts, books about labor struggles, and a raffle ticket for a Glock 17 in adjoining booths after all? The SPCA is here again this year, and once again I want to high five their cats; while both dogs go nuts and hop around barking, the male cat just kinda crouches in the back of his cage while the female is sound asleep.  Caaats.  That being said there's an adorable beagle this year, if you're into beagles, who's full of energy.  Another booth back from last year is the guy who'll grind corn and buckwheat meal for $6/8 a pound right there in the park.  Also, CHAINSAW SCULPTURES.

They always seem to put the Forest Service and Fish & Wildlife Service in the muddiest part of the park (since it rains every year up to the day open air events start) which means sliding around to their booths.  First time I've ever seen a USFS ranger in full uniform outside of my book about the history of that particular body.  Pretty impressive.  Both of our local competing Corps of Engineers Districts were here this year, Huntington and Pittsburgh, though the Pittsburgh District's set up looked kinda sad with two Reservoir guards and a display about boating safety on Randolph Lake.  Pretty much impossible to compete with the Huntington District's reoccurring display I like to call "How Not to Die from Sixty Year Old Unexploded Ordnance While Hiking".  They give out bags with a mortar shell on them. A Mortar shell!

Kinda upset that I won't be able to go to the Fireman's Parade tonight but that means you won't have to go a single week without THE BEST RADIO SHOW EVER! Last day to get your requests in, because this mess kicks off at 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time!

I seriously rage at the complete lack of cool festivities around here, man. Also mortar shells 'W'
If this damn country could ever get its ass off the truck and stop doing nothing but booze away whenever something's to be celebrated...well, damn, but I'd be surprised. Seriously. Quick overview of common holidays in Sweden, and their methods of celebration:
Quote from: "Lov- och Helgdagsfirande"New Years' - Dinner, booze, champagne, fireworks, more booze, more fireworks, back indoors and WHAM ON THE BEER SLAMMER.
February break (or whenever else one wishes to go skiing) - breakfast, skiing, lunch with something warm (blueberry soup or vodka), skiing, After-ski for 5 HOURS with shitloads of booze, back home for dinner with booze. Rinse and repeat for 5-7 days.
Easter - Thursday, small children go out for trick-or-treat looking like witches or whatever. Grown-ups drink schnapps and cognac, paint eggs and eat eggs/drink eggnog in great merriment. Everyone pretends to be sad on Easter Friday but actually they're just boozing the hell off their asses. Saturday is celebrations with family and friends day, ofc including gratuitous amounts of booze. Sunday is ALSO celebrations day, but at someone else's place. Monday is hangover day, and then the normal days begin again. Due to being a common break/vacation week, commonly includes lots of shitling kiddies partying as well.
Night before 1st of May (Walpurgis) - Dinner with family and friends, including proper amounts of booze. March off to the closest Walpurgis fire, where stands, booze, music and merriment in general (normally pretty lame stuff though) tightly lines the local grassy field outside the heat zone. When whoever is in charge feels like it (usually somewhere around 7-8pm, when it starts to get a bit dark) the fire is lit, and the festivities and merriment fade off in place of a lot of people standing around a red-tape fence around a huge damn fire (and of course some idiots throwing shit into it). The stands and the booze (the latter most prominently) remain throughout most of the evening, however, and at times there are fireworks as well. At the time the fire is largely out most people have gone home to someone (most likely not to their own homes) and started the boozing and hard partying FO REALZ.
Various obscure church holidays that make some half-assed golden week variant spread across the weeks of May - nobody actually cares about these, aside from being a few days off work and thus an excuse to drink until your ass falls off.
6th of June - Vague attempts at patriotism, flags waving, mayhem, general craziness, lots of booze. No further comments.
Highschool gradutations during early June - I've already mentioned what these entail, but I'm still very listing it. Just about everyone has someone they know (or who knows someone, etc) that they can go wipe their heads with.
Midsummer's eve - Accordions and violins galore, psychotic dancing around a phallic symbol made out of flowers and wood. And somehow, we do this WITHOUT consuming shitloads of C2H5OH. That comes later, along with the other weird-ass traditions like eating rotten fish and such. Needless to say, Midsummer's day alone usually produces more drunk driving/accidents/cases in general than there will be during the remaining 6 months of the year.
Crayfish parties during august/september - Lots of crayfish, lots of spirits, lots of party hats. I only went to one party this year - most people go to a lot more than that.
All Saints' Day/Halloween - Not very celebrated at all, probably due to GLUM and DARK and LONG NIGHTS and whatnot. Not very much t&t-ing. Not a lot of parties. Pretty boring, as a whole.
November HAS NOTHING AT ALL, until...
Advents - When December and xmas approaches, Glühwein (or Glögg as we call it) starts selling like crazy everywhere. Some is, of course, loaded only with light percentages of alcohol, but most go up there with your everyday wines. Every advent sunday, this beverage is consumed in ridiculous amounts, along with saffron buns and gingerbread. And it's not uncommon to grab a few shots per day during the week, either.
Lucia - An old heathen tradition turned into a vague celebration to the honor of some italian saintess that the italians themselves don't even know about, this is largely the same as the Advent celebrations, except with more srs.bsns, EVERY SINGLE CHOIR IN THE NATION going out to various malls/centers/corporations and whatnot (This year, my sister and her class will be singing for the Department of Defense, among other places. SHIT IS SRS AND BSNS.) singing stuff dressed up as ghost-like candlebearers (if you thought of candlejack, remove the hat and it's real close) with the girls wearing red belts to symbolize blood, and the "Lucia" wearing a candle crown of some sort. Of course, gingerbread, saffron buns and glögg are a very important part of this event.
Christmas - Go to a party somewhere, share presents around the fir tree, the usual. Watch public service TV shows for a few hours. All this while of course eating off smorgasbords and drinking gratuitous amounts of beer, glögg, wine and who knows what else one can get.

And the next week, along comes New Years' again...

It's a damn wonder this nation hasn't succumbed to a collective alcoholism, really. I suspect the name of this wonder is Systembolaget. _W_

On another note, I've been hearing what sounds very much like gunshots coming from the forest outside my window. Gunshots? A quarter to midnight? In a dark forest? Not that I'll be investigating it now, or anything, but something is radically off here. -_-
