We were completely thrashing, bashing, and taking a dump on Service pack 3 for XP, and M$ in general because of said SP3...

Vista is safe, i at least think it's just another new windblows with more eyecandy (no reason for me to switch over as i like the sleek and business-like XP), wich will eventually suffer the same cruel fate as XP is now...

QuoteYou wanna know what happened to our posts? Steve Ballmer f*#king killedâ,,¢ them!

Oh yeah,... I remember you posted something about that too.  ^.^'

QuoteBut really, that was an interesting article. Very well put; open source itself doesn't really interest consumers, they have to explain how it can benefit them. An article I found on the same site:

http://itmanagement.earthweb.com/entdev/article.php/3744946/When+XP+Expires+does+Desktop+Linux+Shine?.htm

XP to Linux: Avenge me!

I saw that too, but thought there were already too many articles like that to post.  ^^
Does help explain why M$ is in deep with SUSE, Xandros and Linspire,... call it "hedging their bets".  ^___^'

QuoteMy only regret is that I have Mario is Missing (Pc edition) and I can't play it because vista doesn't support full-screen dos applications.

See if DOSBox works in your system.  I used DOSBox to play some really nostalgia-inducing DOS games in Linux, including Heroes of Might and Magic I and an older version of Battle Chess.

Also managed to run RPGMaker XP in Wine, although it did function better in Virtualbox.
I'm wondering if the fact that we were both interested in the same obscure game tool program might have something to do with a certain,.... "pogojo"?  ^______________^;

Now that you mention it, I do recall that a month earlier there was a veritable flood of articles "praising and prawning" the virtues of SP3.  Either that was a trademark propaganda ploy, or they pulled a Longhorn-Vista and "tweaked" the system a bit prior to release.  After all, you have to give "Honest Paying Law-Abiding Customers" the "treatment" they deserve, no?  ^^;

Yeah, DOS-box is a sure fire way to get DOS in systems which have abandoned or never have supported this piece of Genesis...

Plus, Battlechess for DOS roolz!!! :D Nice to see that there are people here that also enjoy a game of chess... ;010

It's usually quicker for me to play Knights (equipped with the Penguin theme for maximum "winnage"), but Battle Chess still has the nostalgia factor.  I do love a good game of chess, yes, but given all the work I have to do is a luxury I can ill-afford to take part in often.  ^.^'

Kinda the reason why I had to literally PRY myself off of Battle for Wesnoth, or else you would never see me again.  ^_____^'

I've yet to try the old TIE Fighter CD game (before LucasArts butchered the music) -- I think that would work great in DOSBox.  ^.^

Smokey

The only thing I haven't got working in DOS-box is Heretic...
It behaves like -eeeh- Flight Simulator X on a very old PC (low framerate etc.) :(

Hmmm,... sounds like a job for,.... Virtualbox.  ^____^

In any event, I'm surprised this isn't bigger news, given the implications....  ^.^

Yeah, i had a similar PC once... Booted up in just 3 seconds...
It was my PC-XT 6.33 Mhz running DOS 4... :D

And ASUS does kick ass, always has... ;010

I really like the idea of Linux in the BIOS. :)

The day M$ goes open source, hell will become a first-class ice hotel. And you better believe that if they do "open up"...there will be some motive -__-

I wish I could comment on this neat little discussion about DOS games...but alas, DOS was a bit before my time. The closest I got to using it was the DOS mode on Windows 98 (ironically it worked better than 98 itself!)

Wait, so Splashtop is an embedded OS (would that make it firmware, right)? Aside from the fact that there are some limitations...what a neat idea! Although, I have never been one to be ticked off my computer's boot-up time...this comes from the same person who doesn't mind that their computer almost constantly makes noises, weights 8 pounds, and heats up like a frying pan ^///^

Yep, it IS firmware.

Boot up times irk me if I see no progress, like under Windows or Linux with splash screen. I don't mind seeing Gentoo or damnsmall boot up.

Well, I don't really mind boot-time (up to certain levels), and I don't mind my PC being a bit on the heavy side (that's what you get for stuffing it full of HDDs :D), but I do like to keep my PC quiet, though, willing to sacrifice silence for coldness (My old Dell had 3 very noisy 120mm fans, but id did cool about 6 square feet around it, too ;010)

Well, I'm stuck with using DOS-box, wich is in fact an excellent way of introducing DOS on any system...
The lack of a graphical browser in DOS would actually be good for me, since i found out that building a particle accelerator isn't all that hard...
