In other news, I finished trying Ubuntu 8.04 and am happy to see some much needed refinement (plus the new heron wallpaper is kinda neat). ^^

Plus I noticed that the Ren'Py Visual Novel game engine is available in their repos -- naturally, I'm clamoring to get the same uploaded to PCLOS as it'd be a PERFECT chance to make some quick OS-tan inspired educational games. ^.^

That's good news...I'll probably try out 8.04 when the stable release comes out.

Well, this is only going to be available for *nix systems...but I'm really hoping that this'll work and they can do something with that Multics source code.

Haha...I remember watching TV shows about parallel universes and theoretical physics and stuff when I was quite young...the whole idea never really bothered me much. I've known people who were like, "oh man that hurts my head just to think about!" But I've thought that sorta stuff makes sense O___o

So, I gave Debian a try. Well, first I downloaded the install CD via a bittorrent; after a failed installation in my VM (it never got past the software install stage, somthing about no swap partition being created), I went back and downloaded the liveCD.

I don't want to jump to conclusions just yet, but....I think this my new favorite distro. As for boot-up and speed in general, it's about on par with Ubuntu; even with the more resource-intensive KDE it runs fine in the virtual machine, and it comes with a great collection of software (I was having fun with the star charting program, as well as the Latin quiz program...haha). Not to mention KDE is really nice looking, too.

But hey! Ya gotz a fast KDE system in your VM, so can't be all bad.  

Plus technically-speaking, the Debian repositories are a lot larger than the Ubuntu ones, so there's bound to be no shortage of fun applications to play with.  ^__~

Now we know Bella-sama has gone hardcore if she starts using Debian!  ^.^

This Capulet is downloading it right now with hijinks, so I'll see what happens when my computer restarts, or something.
Anyone else tried it, or have thoughts?

But I think the PC World article sums it up best

More dubious is the [new] Windows Product Activation update, which makes the XP installation process more Vista-like. This means you’ll no longer be forced to input your Windows product activation key during installation (although you’ll still have to do so within 30 days or your OS will stop working).

However, it also means Windows XP will be tracking your hardware configuration in much the same way that Vista does, which could lead to your computer being disabled in the event that you change out fundamental components such as your motherboard or processor.

All in all I think it's quite the anticlimactic "Final Service Pack!" Some Bug fixes and networks tweaks, not much you notice unless you are looking for it
