QuoteNow we're getting Mainframes (built for extreme availability) mixed up with Super-Minicomputers (built for processing power)... That's like comparing apples to iMacs-PEARS, i mean PEARS...

I confess, I was just looking for a way to post a picture of Multics-sama's home :P

QuoteWell, now that i've taken a closer, better look at it, a question arises in my mind...: Where's the Optical Drive?? I'd assume that it, cute as it may be, should be able to at least handle DVD's...

I wondered the same thing! Is it around back, or is it one of those hip "I don't need no stinking CDR drive" computers that have been popping up?

Smokey

Oh, gawd! a PC without removable media support is like a car without the interior...It works but it aint nice....
I dont tell you how to tell me what to do, so dont tell me how to do what you tell me to do... Bender the Great) :/

What'dya guys sayin' to me?!!  Course it has an optical disk drive!  `v'

See.....?  ^__^

Yeah, but optical disks are SOOOOOO 1990's.  ^.^
Considering that 95% of all my daily files float around digitally, I'm actually happy my incredible-edible Asus EeePC has weened me off their use (beyond backups, of course).  Helps computers be smaller and more portable, and the fact that I use external reader/writers now means I can better deal with worn drives (whereas my old HP laptop is pretty much STUCK with its defunct CD/DVD drive).  ^^;

Smokey

yeah...
You're right...

It's time for something new...

How's 'bout a 5,25" floppy drive wich is still as noisy, but as fast as SATA2 and has.....say.....120GB platters? ;010

Oh, it should, ofcourse, also have the floppy seek on boot up... :D

BWAHAHA!!! That reminds me of when I helped an older lady shop for some removable media, and I had to resort to describing SD cards as really tiny but HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE floppy disks.  @v@'

Thankfully, I had... *imitates Gollem's voice* My Precious EeePC at the time to demonstrate.  ^.^;

Speaking of more mini laptops, here's yet another contender, and apparently Canadian too boot!  I think the market flood of UMPC's is going to turn into a deluge at this rate.  ^___^

OMG!!! They decapitated it!!!!! :D

^ Wait, what's going on there? O__o

Smokey

It's the new -canadian- laptop c-chan showed me...

Apparently the canadians like to decapitate their computers... :D

Headless jokes aside, I do wonder if a separable monitor will be nifty idea.  If you think about it, it gives you the option of having the UMPC function as an EeePC clone, OR an internet tablet.  :P
(assuming I'm guessing how it works correctly....)

In other news, Ubuntu's REALLY making public headway if it's appearing on the front page of the BBC....  ^___^

And more OOXML goodness for anyone still reeling from the endless, merciless onslaught of stupidity and electoral shenanigans (=oxymoron)....  ^.^;

So, it's the opposite of how laptops are built? Everything goes in the screen portion and the keyboard/trackpad portion only houses the keyboard/trackpad?

Come to think of it, it's a good idea, but then again, what's stopping the whole thing from falling over when used as a laptop?

I'm sure the makers of the legendary Avro Arrow can think of something clever to keep the whole think from falling apart.  :)

Then again,... there's always duct tape.....  :P

Smokey

heh, yeah...Ducttape cures all... :D

Woohoo! Ubuntu, FTW!!!

I figured Ubuntu was making headway when the Windows-centric PC Magazine named it the product of the month in one issue and devoted an article to it.

When's it going to end...

Smokey

Well i have come to see  stupidity in the following way... As long as there are still boards like /b/ there will still be stupidity and room for human evolution...
