For testing AND marketing purposes -- once EeePCLOS has all remaining kinks worked out, I'll lend it out to friends and coworkers to show just how far you can take a so-called "cheap" laptop.  ^____^

Suffice to say, I have a lot of people interested now,... figure that if I'm crazy enough to get another one, it MUST be good.  ^^

(Plus a few of them have kids too.)

So you mean to say, GNOME has the Mono-based apps built in?

Well,... you know how the new KDE for Windows let's you use KDE4 apps by setting up a temporary KDE compatibility environment in windows, or vice-versa with WINE if you want to run Windows programs in Linux?  Imagine then that KDE4 drivers and stuff were built into Windows, and WINE built into Linux, such that both would be able to run eachother's programs natively?

I guess that's more like what the Mono integration is like.

Granted, just as there are legal ramifications barring the other two scenarios, I can imagine that Mono integration is not necessarily devoid of that either.

Just throwing that out there, cause your skills are improving, and just like how you're having a strong attraction to NT's ancestors, I foresee you starting to get more and more curious of Ubuntu's ancestor, Debian-sama.  She's not as easy to use, and she's a lot more rigid about rules and what constitutes "free and open source" (to the point of repackaging Firefox as IceWeasel to avoid legal ramifications from the copyright!!).  But by GAWD is she fast, rock-solid and stable, and fully-loaded with software up the wazoo (in that respect, Ubuntu-san takes after her).  

Probably the reason why MEPIS moved back to Debian for its more recent builds....

Not much. At first I typed in the wrong password, which got me das boot. Upon typing in the right user name/password, I checked the system info (by typing "show system"), I saw what other users were logged in (show users), and then kinda logged out. ^///^

Well... Since were on the topic of powerful die hard stuff...
I'm juggling with the idea of learning a 1st or 2nd generation programming language. Seriously now, is machine code hard to learn? (if I'm going to learn a language, it better be a hard-core one... And I prefer Binary machine code over Assembly because it eliminates the need of an Assembler and lets you inject instructions directly in the machine)

No, I take that back...they have a whole menu of games under a different username. VMS can run Adventure like RSTS/E, as well as a bunch of games that use very basic "graphics" you could say, made out of different characters. Really odd, actually, and I can't seem to play any of them : \

Too bad they are insanely expensive... Besides I'd rather use the raw, simple power of a couple of quad Pentium Pro servers...(that's the fun of knowing a refurbishing company, practically free hardware for such projects )

Besides for learning machinecode you're better off with some old (free) 8088 than an expensive PS3 or an IBM blade....

And they were talking about extra processors on a PCI-e card?
I was thinking of OSAC OS on A Card... Put the entire OS on a dedicated PCI-E card with a dedicated processor and memory and leave the CPU and RAM for the applications....That should't be so hard; all you have to do is rewrite the BIOS so that it can recognize such a card as a bootable device...

Now thats fun stuff to be experimenting with... ;010

Not just odd games. You know, the first time DEC publicly ran VMS, back in 1977, they had Ken Olsen play a game of Scrabble against it. VMS won, with the word "sensibly". People were astonished that the machine won!

Yeah, they have about 16 PS3's stacked (literally) in a server room, connected by ethernet cables, and performing good ol' parallel processing (the kind the Smokesters try to build).

It is true the PS3's make [relatively] cheap computers, but given how many restrictions there are in using ALL of its hardware, its probably still more practical working with regular x86 hardware.

That depends on who's making fun of them, but I'm sure it's just overt caution.  
In contrast, the Debian Sidders update their packages SO frequently, they actually don't even use Synaptic (it's too impractical for daily changes).

Too bad my 19" 32-port hub didn't feel too green today...It (literally) blew a fuse and took a transistor with him  ;026... (That's a D***ed shame, too... I loved that hub, hosted many a lan-party on that one... I think I'll try to solder a new one in to reanimate it...Not to be green but it's just a nice hub, 10/100 Mbit, too)

Anyhoo, last Saturday I was flipping though the channels when a show on the Discovery Channel caught my attention. It was called "Download: the true story of the internet", and I swear it could have been produced by a bunch of Linux fans and sponsored by Apple.

They talked about how M$ effectively stamped out Netscape...and OMG, did they make them look bad. And like a bunch of liars, cheats and thieves, as well. They used the term "Microsofties" repeatedly, and I think they called some M$ sales marketers "ninja terrorists" @____@

Needless to say, I was laughing hysterically though half the show...it's really worth a watch!
