Hello all.  At long last I'm gonna accomplish my dream of creating Inkscape tutorials, so that everyone who's interested in vector graphics drawing can use this as a resource.  My hope is to demystify every element, not only of Inkscape or vector graphics in general, but of Anime-style artwork in general.  To make it something to be attempted, not feared.  ^^

First off, in case you don't know what Inkscape is, it is a free, open source vector graphics program.  Vector graphics are a style of digital artwork that relies on the formation of geometric primitives such as points, lines, curves and polygons to create a coherent image.  Since this is completely mathematical to a computer, this results in images that are clean, precise, fully editable and fully scalable (meaning you can resize your drawing as much as you want without impairing quality).  This differs from Raster graphics programs such as Photoshop, which rely on the placement of pixels on a screen, and are thus far more in-line with traditional artistic techniques such as painting and freehand drawing.  Drawings that require greater complexity and more organic shapes are more efficiently-produced with Raster Graphics.  But due to the precise nature and cartoonish-output, Vector Graphics are very well-suited for Anime cel artwork, and thus will be the focus of these tutorials.  ^___^

Inkscape is not only free and open source, but it's also cross-platform -- hence, you can be using Windows XP, Mac OSX or any of the million varieties of Linux, and still enjoy this incredible little program.  ^__^

If you haven't done so already, please go to their website now and download/install the program:

Now then, my plan is to provide either a well-structured HTML presentation of this, or to load it up at our Wiki.  Regardless, until more content is available, I'm submitting drafts via the PDF format (created in Open Office using 100% ODF).  ^___^

Oh, and I'll see about adhering to a section-a-day schedule.  ^^;

Also included a few minor revisions to the first few pages posted.

Kagami-sama hasn't gotten to you too, I see.  ^________^;

Bella

Those look great! I'll have to read them :)

C-Chan

Thank you, Bella-sama.  ^^
I'm actually wondering if PDFs wouldn't be the preferred format after all, given how convenient it is to download, print, etc.  ^___^'

Alfamille

I just downloaded it on my Home folder. Thanks C! ^_^

Tsubashi

Gah! How in the world did I miss this thread?!? Me thinks my data collections methods are slipping ^^'
As for content, though, I am in awe! Wonderful work, Senpai. I know you have talked about making this for some time now, but seeing it in production is quite astounding! Keep it up!

Thank you Tsubashi-dono.  ^___^
What'dya think,... should I keep it in PDF?
Seems very convenient,... besides, it also make it possible to GPL it (upload the original ODT file and let anyone add their expertise or screenshots to it). ^^

Added after 10 hours 37 minutes:

New section added on the Zoom Tool.  Insultingly-small, but the best I can do while playing catch-up..... X___X

BTW, that's a cute new signature, Alfamille-san!  ^v^

C-Chan

Okay, got the Square Tool covered today.  I know it sounds anticlimactic, but this is what passes for "being on a roll" these days.  ^___^;

Added after 1 minutes:

Oh, and these last two chapters are dedicated to Alfamille-san for being just so darn awesome!  ^____^

C-Chan

Circle Tool explanation ready.  One section-a-day rule seems to be working.... ^__^

*flops down with fatigue*

Bella

Great tutorials!

But how do you find the time in a day...?

C-Chan

Well, Bella-san, it's a very sophisticated thre-prong approach of A) limiting myself to only a single section per day so as to not go insane, B) downgrading myself to a social outcast by not attending any of the forum games or random picture/movie/question... thingies..., and C) reneging on my duties as a Wiki admin.  It just kinda goes with the territory, you know..... ^__________^;

In any event, I have to go write up the section of the day right now, although since I'm far behind I might consider writing up two just to catch up.  Then again,... there's still SleepyD's and Raffaele-san's pictures to work on.... ¯v¯;

Aurora Borealis

Those tutorials are great! I've learned a lot from them!

C-Chan

Thank you Aurora-dono.  ^__^

Course, the best is yet to come, so please hold on for the ride.  ^v^

In any event, I know I promised two sections today, but my notes on the very important Star Tool went on longer than expected.  ^__^

Please enjoy the latest (and very vibrant) addition to the Tutorial document:
