Quote from: "C-Chan"Let me know what the make and model is -- maybe we could get lucky.  ^.^
I bought my power cord today! It was $75.00 and if you payed cash you didn't have to pay taxes (which was good since I only had 75 dollars in the first place!). It's currently charging but lets see if I can turn it on...

*waits*

Yay! It works! It's an XP Pro (My friend thought it was an XP Home) with SP2. It's a Pentium III with 128 MB of RAM and only 9 GB of HD space. I know it doesn't seem much but if it work, I'm happy! Plus, you also have to remember it originally had 2000 on it. ^__^

EDIT: OMG, I just noticed it has a floppy drive. *goes and plays with the floppy drive*

Fufu... well, to Linux users "Pentium III with 128 MB of RAM and only 9 GB of HD space" is about the going rate for an average system.  ^v^

Here, have a looksy:

I suppose if your laptop model is particularly rare, then I guess the price of the adaptor could've been a lot worse (can't hide behind the $75 "Canadian Dollars" anymore, cause now it's worth more than the American.... ^^;)

In any event, do hope you can get a lot of fun out of it.  ^v^
(And once again, thank you for your contribution to the cause of E-Waste reduction!  ^.^)

Are there any Solaris users here?

May you share your experiences of it with me? Me and my friend may try it together and replace my YDL.

Bella

I always thought (Open)Solaris was more of a server OS....

Tsubashi

I've used Solaris, but not extensively. My friend "inherited" a very old and bulky server that had Solaris pre-installed. No idea what version or the specs, but it wasn't too hard to use. Easy enough to learn, but certainly nothing I would use on my everyday system. Then again, my opinion is not quite valid, since soon after we got it running my friend broke the video converter. The onboard port was different from everything we had and, being adverse to buying things online, he never got it fixed. ^^'

Also I wonder, would Belenix count?  I've used it briefly on VirtualBox,...

Not bad,....... but not terribly exciting either.  ^^'

The new Project Indiana Solaris promises to be more competitive with Linux (and also have more desktop-oriented applications than before), but not sure if they're progressing fast enough on it.  ^^;

seth

I use XP pro on my desktop and Vista on my laptop.

Kiso

I use XP Home on my desktop and Vista Home Basic on my laptop.

((Hopefully I will be getting a tablet pc with Vista Ultimate... making me need to come back here to update my user status.))

Ooo... ^v^ *is all interested* Icelilly-san likes what she hears! (or in this, reads). But you're right, price did get a lot worse. The prices went as high as $156 dollars! Like I have that kind of money! O__O' But, it was worth paying $75 dollars. Because now, it works! And now, I can't put it down. Saseko-sama is being very kind to me. ^v^

QuoteXP doesn't disappoint ^_^
As a matter of fact, me and my ubuntu-ist cousin discussed this, and other things when we were walking from the train station, to our Capoeira session this evening.

QuoteGhooz: Linux is quite much like a human being. It's complicated beyond belief, and if something goes a bit wrong it's probably able to fix it on its own, but if there's anything major it DIES. In comparison, Windows XP is like a bug - it's got the mentality of a piece of ginger bread, and about the same level of intelligence, but you can do whatever you want with it, and it'll continue going even if you cut off a leg or two - although it might just end up going in circles.
Nejin: Then what's a Mac? Except the stuff they built it for you can't do anything with it, except breaking it.
Ghooz: Good question...how about a rock?
Nejin: Wut? A rock?
Ghooz: *giggle* It's really good for some things, but if you want do do something beyond those limits you'll have to be drastic, like heat it up to 600 degrees celsius or go at it with a steel drill or something.
Nejin: *rotfl's* HILARIOUS! >w<

...something like that.

(and I apologize to all Mac-ists who might have been hurt by this ^-^; )

*tears well up in eyes*

*bwaaaaaahaaa! Apologize to me, the XP fan!*

*snaps out of it*

Hmmm....I always thought XP was much more likely of dieing of a major condition (see: crashes, viruses, suspicious auto-updates) than Linux :P

NejinOniwa

Well, as far as I know it's better at malfunctioning, crashing halfway and still managing to hold on somehow...

I rollin with a desktop HP Pavilion, running Windows XP Home (Yay I has a Homeko-chan). Funny story, for at 1st I didn't know what OS I had exactly, all I knew was it was XP, but after a run in with a Internet Connection snafu I found it was XP Home Edition.

Been a good 4 years and meh ol' girl's still runnin strong
