What computer/OS are you using?

I've got a question for you guys....

Is it true that Vista is filled with bugs and problems? My friend told me that BETA version of Vista functions better the official copy of Vista.

NejinOniwa

Weeeeeell...it all depends on what we mean with "bugs and problems", but if your idea of those include, say, driver problems, program incompatibility, DRM CRAP RAM HOGGING, and random BSOD's, I'd say that, yeah, it is.

Stay away from it, is my advice.
Paradoxically enough, I'm going to cosplay as Vis-kun on the upcoming UppCon:08...

Wow... O_O; Good thing I didn't get my free copy of Vista! Then I would of had two computers that I would have to fight with!

I've heard similar things. But since Beta versions of Vista are probably a bit hard to come by, I think yes, Vista is filled with problems.

That said, my catchphrase has become "I'd rather use an abacus than Windows Vista"

XD

NejinOniwa

That said, there's absolutely no doubt that nothing else M$ than XP-64bit is going on DELTA when it gets done.

Thank goodness!!!

XP may not be as pretty or as "secure" as Vista, but with the right care it works damn well, considering (at least for me it does).

Vista's schizophrenic operation aside, I wouldn't ever use/buy/pirate/game on/play with Vista on principal alone. I wouldn't use it for free; I wouldn't use it if I was payed to. It shows just how much one company can screw up a perfectly fine OS (NT), and (try) to make unholy amounts of money off of it.

Hmm... It says that Vista could be short-lived like ME did... Could that be possible?

Anyways, I think I'll stick to my XP MCE. It functions and does what I want. So, I'm happy. ^__^

NejinOniwa

MCE? Ah, ah well. Yes, Moseko is definitely going to do a heapload of better work than a scary Vistan on your machines, that's for sure. And they haven't scheduled Vienna/Blackcomb until 2009, but...who knows?

Windows Vienna? I haven't heard of this one before! ^^; Lets hope it won't be as buggy as Vista is.

NejinOniwa

Windows Vienna, formerly known as Blackcomb, was intended to be the actual next operating system after XP, with Vista/Longhorn only being a small modified fix or update thingie of the latest NT technology.
Learning new stuff every day! ^^

Hmm... Interesting... Makes me wonder if my tech teacher knows about this. ^^

Some have even speculated that Windows 7 (AKA Vienna, FKA Blackcomb ;) ) may use a different, better, kernel than NT (although, IMHO, I don't see it happening...I'm sure the OS is already half designed by now). But a better OS/kernel is nothing if it has bad features that make the good ones useless : |

Still, a possible Unix-like Windows interests the part of me that's a Windows fan, and disconcerts me an a Linux fan. Makes me a little annoyed as an NT fan.

GAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!  >V<

*collapses*

Quote2: The new primary drive is a (somewhat risky setup, if you ask me) SATA drive on 250 gb, but since my brother's comp doesn't have any SATA ports he's wired a cable from the master IDE port to a PCI port and has a card simulating the SATA port. The old 150 gb IDE drive is the slave.
So we're hoping to get the OS on the new drive...'n stuff.

GYAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!  >V<

*collapses hard*

I'm not even sure if THAT will work, but oh well hope the 250 Gig SATA drive was cheap.  ^^'

Well,.... if you plug it in and its visible in yoru BIOS screen, guess it works.  I think the worse that can happen to it is that is just won't register in your BIOS startup.  -v-

If successful, just sit back and let Puppy-chan take care of the rest.  -.-;
Don't forget that if you want Net access, you have to activate it first through the Connect shortcut.  (and then you can use Dillo)

Oh yeah.  ^^
In fact recently, it gave a lot of people quite a number of scares and/or headaches:

Yeah, that basically sums it up.  ^__^

Windows stuff is never free,... they always insert a hidden cost somewhere.  ^.^

Hard to find.... right.... ^____^

Correction, you can make XP look IDENTICAL to Vista right down to the spinning Windows feature.
(forget where the links are, but they're buried somewhere in the Post your Desktop thread).

And I'd venture to guess that it's even MORE secure than Vista, at least the non-SP2's, only because you have less things spying on you (and hence, less security holes open).

I think it's about time we nominated Bella-sama to be Governor of NH.  ^___^

"Live Bella-like or Die" will be the new state motto!  ^.^

QuoteHmm... It says that Vista could be short-lived like ME did... Could that be possible?

Well consider this,... Dell once agreed to drop XP from all its products, but then not long ago demanded to sell it on their machines again.
And Dell of course is a HUGE computer manufacturing company that has a lot of sway, so you know things are bad for Vista if their biggest buyers are that uncomfortable with it.  After all, Vista is only selling well because of all the OEM licenses -- that is, manufacturers by the Vista licenses in the millions, then install it on their machines in the hopes of selling it to some hapless consumer.  M$ still technically has a Vista "purchase", but that in no way means that the Vista computer actually gets sold...... ^^;

Search the gallery for Blackcomb-tan and you'll come across a really cool OS-tan.  ^.^

Yes unfortunately, given their cooperative efforts with Novell and Xandros within the past few weeks, the future does seem to paint a picture of some kind of Windows/Linux hybrid thingie.  I wonder if SUSE-tan and Xandros-tan will feel the same way as VMS-san when they're over with this.  -.-;

Windows XP
Emachine T1120...

Using it, Not by choice. My other comp is out of order because I need a new graphics card for it... but... Its integrated into the Motherboard... -_-

So...yeah... stuck with this one...

Yes, I could do that but the my XP pride prevents me from doing so. I'll take XP's slightly cheesy GUI (though it's much cooler with a glassy theme like Royale or Zune), thank you ;051

Nah, really, I just don't want to screw with the system files and stuff.

QuoteAnd I'd venture to guess that it's even MORE secure than Vista, at least the non-SP2's, only because you have less things spying on you (and hence, less security holes open).

Waaaa....I have SP2....

(I think I heard they're going to make an XP SP3...I guess I should steer clear...)

Funny thing today, we were at an electronics store...my dad walked up to this pretty HP all-in-one (AKA, iMac ripoff) desktop, and he was dotting about how cool it looked and all..."Hey, maybe this'll be my next computer!"

Then I woke it from the screensaver, pointed to the Vista login, and he hurried away XD

(that's the most contact I'll have with Vista...)

QuoteSearch the gallery for Blackcomb-tan and you'll come across a really cool OS-tan. ^.^

Oh, I've seen that one! There's been some talk on Wakachan lately about a Windows 7 design...

Again, I'm both really hoping that Windows will someday be Unix-like, but hoping they won't, because they may only prove how much they can mess up a perfectly fine kernel or OS : |

I feel I have to salute every emachines owner...hehe...emcahines aren't as bad as most people make them out to be ;)
