Amazing, Bella-san!

That outfit is lovely and the accessories are wonderfully fascinating!  The texture on her scepter/staff is pretty darn fun, too.  Great job with the tulle, too.

QuoteOH. MY. GOSH...

Multics-sama, her dress and all the details are sooooooo incredibly beautiful! Beautiful beyond words as I am speechless! Speechless!

QuoteThat must have taken A LOT of time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not into details when I draw and it still takes about a week! Or two!!!!!!

Thanks! In order for me to do this kinda detail, I need to start out with a good sketch (I had hand-sketched this some time ago, and just now vectorized it). After that, I just do it one section at a time; the vector sketch one day, the face details the next, the shading and hair and so on.

QuoteBELLA-SAN, I'M GONNA SWALLOW YOU WHOLE NEXT TIME I SEE YOU
IF YOU CAN MAKE THIS DELICIOUS STUFF THERE MUST BE TASTINESS OF LEGENDARY PROPORTIONS SEALED WITHIN YOU
IT ARE DELICIOUS BELLA, I MUST EAT IT!!!
*tacklechomp*

GAH! NEJIN IS TRYIN' A EAT ME!!!

I'm guessing I taste like maple products (what with being so sappy and a native NH-ite). So, I guess it's understandable...

Thank you. There's a lot of symbolism and a few Easter Eggs in this picture...I'll start by telling about the staff. Those inscriptions are actually some verses from the poem/song, O Fortuna. The lyrics are eerily well-suited to Multics-sama...hell, it could be her theme song. And it's in Latin, and we all know how much Multics-sama loves the language :P

The prominent colors are red. I toyed with making her dress blue, purple or even green; but these colors all seemed to peaceful and subdued. Red, on the other hand, symbolizes passion, arrogance, ambition, flamboyance, aggression, and war...which all seem to fit Multics-sama well. I now believe an eagle would be Multics-sama's anthropomorphism (or if not that, her favorite animal: they symbolize freedom, power, and intelligence), which is why I put that eagle embroidery on her dress.

You may also notice a pattern of four and eight "rings" in her jewelery. Four bracelets on each arm/leg, four "loops" on each tier of her...head-tiara thingy, etc. This was a little reference to Multics' having eight security rings (its famous feature; I think it used more rings than any other OS, the norm today is around two, OS/2 used three). There was also an unintentional pattern of three's. I have no idea what this means, but I could always say it has something to do with the Triumvirate. Lawl.

QuoteI found Renpy and the demo in the Ubuntu repository, but I couldn't figure out how to download it (on the mirror I tried I got nothing but a lot of gibberish). And it wasn't available though the package manager. ^////^

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!  ^0^
Well,... I did get it to work in 8.04, so maybe it works there instead?  O__O

Actually, this was precisely the kind of detail I was aiming for with the FOSA project. Well person A did the face and B did the skirt, anyone else could work on intricate details (like in the staff) or the jewelry in her hands and what not.

But since you did this all on your own, with such richness and depth and beauty and elgance, I can't help but agree that this must've taken a good amount of patience, dedication and inspiration!  And really, it's no surprise that Bella-san could pull it off!  ^___^

From a scale of 1-10, I give you 20 for the awesome easter egg, in terms of appearance AND backstory.  ^_____^

QuoteThe prominent colors are red.

And from a scale of 1-10, I give you 30 for the well-informed switch to a most appropriate anthopomorphism.  True that when I first thought of Multics-sama, I pictured her as powerful yet also refined and delicate -- so white was the predominant impression.  However, with all the research you've conducted and stories you've weaved up, clearly she's a far deeper and more complex character, so bolder colors and a stronger figurehead is required.  In many ways, now I'm the one who's conservative.  ^__________^'

Not sure if this was your intention, but the way her red dress progresses upwards in layers (dark red > pink > dark red > pink > dark red) reminds me a lot of the Multics logo, which also happens to be a series of layered rings

QuoteYou may also notice a pattern of four and eight "rings" in her jewelery. Four bracelets on each arm/leg, four "loops" on each tier of her...head-tiara thingy, etc. This was a little reference to Multics' having eight security rings (its famous feature; I think it used more rings than any other OS, the norm today is around two, OS/2 used three). Well at this rate you're going to break my scale now!  ^.^

Even though she has enough jewelry on her to put most pawn shops out of business, and it will be difficult to recreate her in other renditions, I think that's very appropriate.  She's definitely one of the grander Operating Systems the world has ever known, and to do anything less than what you've done would be sacrilege.  ^-^

I'll start from top>bottom.  ^__^

    - The elegance in her hair is duly noted and admired!  You've definitely mastered the art of wavy strands and then some, and the rich highlights are strategically-placed to maximize both vibrance and maturity!  The ribbons further enhances the detail as well as the impression of old school opulence.

    - Having followed your artistic career for over a year now, it still amazes me to see how quickly you've come along in terms of drawing heads and eyes.  Her eyes, while coy and sad, are dazzling and hypnotic, and the proportions are just right.  The whisps of hair, the intricate jewelry, and sharp shadows and highlights lend it a gorgeous blend of Anime visuals and Bella-style sensibilities. The lips are a bit low, but that maximizes the fact that she's a sad sad character. ^__^

    - I don't remember the last time I looked at shoulders, but I'm looking at them now.  The placement of her logo, now flanked by more of her jewelry is tasteful and appropirate.  The hair hanging on her shoulds is also well-executed.  The wings could use a lighter stroke color, but I'm wondering if maybe you're up to something there.  ^.^

    - I think you should be proud of how your arms and hands turned out.  They're your absolute best ever, both in portion, finesse and dynamism.  The way they wrap around the Multics Staff exudes both elegance, refinement... and strength.  ^^

    - The Multics Staff itself is drop-dead gorgeous, and all but mirrors all the care and attention you've poured into it!  Clearly it's a shame that Unix-sama cut it down and polished it significantly, as the original artwork could easily rival anything housed at MoMA.  ^>^

    - I begged once before that you try your hand at more flowery and embellished dresses -- and while you first achieved that with your original Multics-sama sketch, as well as PrimOS-sama's attire, I think this one is a true tour-de-force.  This is, without a shadow of a doubt, the most intricate character design ever created in OSC -- and it's only fitting that a master of fashion such as yourself would be the one to achieve that.  You've never been one to shy away from folds, and this one certainly highlights your craft.  Everything from the drapes on her shoulders, to the flowing of her ribbon bowss, to the billowing of her multi-layered dress is staggering and lifelike!  Coupled with clever little details like the silver clips in her shoulds and the embroidery in the pink linen, and clearly you succesfully depict the weight and depth that you've tried to achieve.

    - Same with the hands -- you've clearly surpassed the last barrier to perfection, as it's also well-proportioned and just as beautiful as the rest of her (albeit with a slight "Roman" touch).  If I were Gulliver, and her the Queen of Brobdingnag, I wouldn't hesitate to kiss that.  ^________^

In short, this image, as it is now, is perfection incarnate!!
I've once described your pictures as CLAMP-like, and now there can be no doubt you're there in all matters, including rich, Manga-esque detail.

And the fact that you're not done in your artistic career, but rather just getting warmed up,... well,... I can't even fathom the dreak works you'll create in a year's time.

Bella-sama is too insulting for such greatness,... you too need a promotion to "Bella-hime".  ^__________^

Now one last swoon before I step out.... ^v^

And to think, about the first hour of this picture went to waste (when I lost that file O__o). I came close to sorta giving up, but what else could I do but dust myself off and give it another go...

I have found, that when I attempt a picture, and I have every single detail planned out...I don't do so well. I usually crash somewhere along the way. Now I try to take it one step at a time, and stay as simple as possible; it'll add up in the end.

I used to think the same thing; but I have found Multics has a most complex, roller-coaster history. Nothing was ever certain for it, and nothing came easily. It was revolutionary and ambitious because of its features; and this was its biggest liability. It's only fitting that Multics-sama's backstory and character should be the same way.

As for the eagle anthropomorphism--aside from those points I mentioned, eagles are traditionally symbolic of light, and the sun; their avian opposite is the owl, and they are also the opposite "power animals" like lions and bulls. Hinty hinty hinty...

QuoteNot sure if this was your intention, but the way her red dress progresses upwards in layers (dark red > pink > dark red > pink > dark red) reminds me a lot of the Multics logo, which also happens to be a series of layered rings

Nope, this is unintentional. But I guess you could say each layer of her outfit is like a ring (including all those petticoats and stuff)...I leave it to the imagination what ring 0 would be O___o

QuoteWell at this rate you're going to break my scale now! ^.^

Even though she has enough jewelry on her to put most pawn shops out of business, and it will be difficult to recreate her in other renditions, I think that's very appropriate. She's definitely one of the grander Operating Systems the world has ever known, and to do anything less than what you've done would be sacrilege. ^-^

Well, I figured if I was gonna do another Multics-sama picture, I might as well go all out. But thank heavens, if she comes back now, she won't be half as decked-out as she was before. :P

Quote- The elegance in her hair is duly noted and admired! You've definitely mastered the art of wavy strands and then some, and the rich highlights are strategically-placed to maximize both vibrance and maturity! The ribbons further enhances the detail as well as the impression of old school opulence.

I tried doing shading on the hair, but I could see this wasn't going to give me the look I was going for; I actually used your VMS-sama picture for inspiration, and just did the highlighting. This works best for characters with really dark hair I've found.

Quote- Having followed your artistic career for over a year now, it still amazes me to see how quickly you've come along in terms of drawing heads and eyes. ^__^

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I do try, with each drawing, to progress. I look at each project as a learning experience, where I try to become more detailed while, paradoxically, becoming more efficient.

And you picked up on her expression. I wanted her to look as disenchanted and sad as possible.

Quote- I don't remember the last time I looked at shoulders, but I'm looking at them now. The placement of her logo, now flanked by more of her jewelry is tasteful and appropirate. The hair hanging on her shoulds is also well-executed. The wings could use a lighter stroke color, but I'm wondering if maybe you're up to something there. ^.^

Hmmm...yeah I usually just use black strokes for everything...maybe I will try a lighter color (this is still beta, BTW)

Quote- I think you should be proud of how your arms and hands turned out. They're your absolute best ever, both in portion, finesse and dynamism. The way they wrap around the Multics Staff exudes both elegance, refinement... and strength. ^^

This can be directly traced back to the hand sketch ;)

Quote- The Multics Staff itself is drop-dead gorgeous, and all but mirrors all the care and attention you've poured into it! Clearly it's a shame that Unix-sama cut it down and polished it significantly, as the original artwork could easily rival anything housed at MoMA. ^>^

Besides it being gaudy to Unix-sama, and reminding her too much of her mother...she probably found the inscriptions to be way to much of a downer.

Quote- I begged once before that you try your hand at more flowery and embellished dresses -- and while you first achieved that with your original Multics-sama sketch, as well as PrimOS-sama's attire, I think this one is a true tour-de-force. This is, without a shadow of a doubt, the most intricate character design ever created in OSC -- and it's only fitting that a master of fashion such as yourself would be the one to achieve that. Coupled with clever little details like the silver clips in her shoulds and the embroidery in the pink linen, and clearly you succesfully depict the weight and depth that you've tried to achieve.

Folds...they're something that's very hard "learn" how to do. It's more a guesstimation, a feeling of where they should be to accentuate the character's pose. As you can see, the lines follow where her legs are under the dress; if I had just made the lines straight, it wouldn't look half as realistic. You have to think of how it might lay of bunch up, and try to keep in light and elegant.

Shading also has a lot of effect on the overall look. Would you believe that the shading on the two layers of skirts were each done as ONE continuous path?

Quote- Same with the hands -- you've clearly surpassed the last barrier to perfection, as it's also well-proportioned and just as beautiful as the rest of her (albeit with a slight "Roman" touch). If I were Gulliver, and her the Queen of Brobdingnag, I wouldn't hesitate to kiss that. ^________^

Funny you should mention that, I tried to give her design some ancient Roman and Indian touches ^_^

Her gown is like the one you mostly saw (or described) in the Norse folklore. Not to mention you modeled her face into "art nouveau".

Well done Bella!

Yeah, her rendition in your comic is certainly a whole lot more conservative by comparison.  Then again, it takes place long after she learned her lesson, and her fortunes were already in decline.

QuoteI tried doing shading on the hair, but I could see this wasn't going to give me the look I was going for; I actually used your VMS-sama picture for inspiration, and just did the highlighting. This works best for characters with really dark hair I've found.

QuoteHmmm...yeah I usually just use black strokes for everything...maybe I will try a lighter color (this is still beta, BTW)

For our BSD-tans, I do want to get used to drawing in colored strokes.  Not that it's very evident with thin-strokes, but I have a hunch that it will add a greater degree of richness to the pictures.  And it's not really all that time-consuming.  ^^

QuoteBesides it being gaudy to Unix-sama, and reminding her too much of her mother...she probably found the inscriptions to be way to much of a downer.

Well no, that's amazing!  @v@
I'm guessing it's one large block of shade, then you carved out sections where the lighting comes in, no?

For the BSD-tans, I'm going to try and make more of an effort to improve my folding taking your advice.  I usually find ways to cheat and avoid it altogether, but since I'm aiming for a rich look it's unavoidable.

Since the Fold Queen has big shoes to fill, I'm guessing I might need your help with tweaks.  ^__^

Bella

Ahhhh, C-Chan wanted me to post my sketches for the BSD-tans. So here they are:

DragonflyBSD-tan and OpenBSD-tan

FreeBSD-tan and NetBSD-tan

QuoteI'm gonna see if I can follow the same approach with our BSD-tans. Just chip away a little every day, until I dispel my artistic rut. ^.^

Yeah, give it a try :D

QuoteNow I'm wondering what the opposite power animal is to a pig....? ^.^
(a hippo?)

Hmmm...I don't know. I know pigs are symbolically intelligent, generous, and cunning :P

But what I meant was, eagles are considered more of a swift, intelligent animal, while lions are more of a courageous, agressive animal (and what I was hinting at was, GECOS-san's...the arch-rival of Multics-sama...anthropomorphism is the lion). It's amazing how well some of the anthropomorphisms are for some OS-tans; I realize how well suited VMS-sama is to the shark; they are constantly in motion, adaptable, remorseless, and excellent hunters and defenders. And I found this works quite well for about every OS-tan anthropomorphism, even those of Plan 9-san/rabbit, Minix-san/racoon! Unfortunetly, I couldn't find any info on the symbolic nature of penguins. Lawl.

But I am reconsidering CTSS-sama's anthropomorphism...perhaps...

QuoteYeah, her rendition in your comic is certainly a whole lot more conservative by comparison. Then again, it takes place long after she learned her lesson, and her fortunes were already in decline.

But she was still doing relatively well then, and her power certainly hadn't "peaked" yet; thing really didn't go downhill until the 1980s. As for her outfit, I suppose this is her idea of casual wear...after all, she was just meeting with a young student of sorts ;)

QuoteFufufu! So that birthday gift has ended up being the gift that ends up giving! I'm so happy! ^.^
Hopefully it helps that you own the Sauce,... it's one thing seeing how it is, quite another to see how it's assembled. ^__^

I figure I should never stop learning...I can feel quite comfortable with one technique, but is that really the most efficient or easy way of producing a desired effect? When I'm stuck, I try to find some inspiration...and yes, having the sauce makes it all the easier to see how something was done :D

QuoteFor our BSD-tans, I do want to get used to drawing in colored strokes. Not that it's very evident with thin-strokes, but I have a hunch that it will add a greater degree of richness to the pictures. And it's not really all that time-consuming. ^^

You did the same for our PCLOS-sama picture, if I recall correctly. At any rate, perhaps this is something I may try out...on a chibi or something. Then again, I do use larger strokes...so it may be more noticeable and thus more distracting.

QuoteAwww... ;___;

Yep, "Awww... ;___;" could be the motto for the entire Unix/Multics-sama saga. Other runner-ups are:

O___O, O_o, @______@, X__X and >___<

QuoteWell no, that's amazing! @v@
I'm guessing it's one large block of shade, then you carved out sections where the lighting comes in, no?

It's hard to explain, but basically...I find one point that will be the "top" of the shaded area, and another that will be the "end point". I go back and forth like a zig-zag to hash out the basic form, then go back and shape it into the correct shape, and make the smaller shaded areas...

QuoteFor the BSD-tans, I'm going to try and make more of an effort to improve my folding taking your advice. I usually find ways to cheat and avoid it altogether, but since I'm aiming for a rich look it's unavoidable.

Since the Fold Queen has big shoes to fill, I'm guessing I might need your help with tweaks. ^__^

I sketched up a couple of very quick n' dirty tutorials on how I make folds. Like I said, it's more of a feeling of where they should be...it's not as technical as a lot of tutorials make it seem.

Long skirts/dresses:

Sorry there's no tutorial #2...before I could export it, Photoshop kinda...conched out on me XD

QuoteAnd a damn fine job doing it too! ^-^

Thank you, I wanted to give her a more ancient and exotic look...

QuoteAww now,... with your positive, peace-making outlook, you'll now doubt end up as a sky-diving Centennarian. ^__~

Not literally, of course, I mean my hobbies tend to be short-lived...although, I do have a tendency to end up back involved with the same interests I had at a past point, so maybe none of my hobbies really do die off...

I'm more like a phoenix, I guess :P

I knew you would like her...after all, Multics-sama is the conceptual great-great-grandmother of Linux-sama :P

QuoteOh...My...Gosh... @v@

AWESOME!

That is just astounding Bella, You're getting better and better by the day. Considering the amount of time you completed this in, I'm simply amazed.
I love it.

I'm still a beginer at doing this but, here goes.

*Swoons*

Now to comment on the rest of your artwork.

Thanks, Techno! I'm happy to hear you like her :D

QuoteOooh Nice. I see "Puffy" the OpenBSD-tan has made her triumphant return.

I like your design for DragonflyBSD-tan. Cute. She's mere inches away from beating Emuii and Konata to "most extreme hairstyle" XD

Yeah, OpenBSD-tan was based on the existing design, but made a bit more...moe. DragonflyBSD-tan was mostly C-Chan's design, I just sketched her using his ideas, for a collaborative picture...here's C-Chan's progress so far. Her hair is actually supposed to resemble the antennae of a dragonfly...and apparently she's going to be an Amiga-sama uber fangirl XD

QuoteHey, it's FreeB-chan She's still my favorite of the BSD-tans. (Aside from Plan-9-sama and crew, but that's a different group.)
And who's this with her? NetBSD-tan. Cool, I like her too.

Ah, yes, FreeB-chan...unless you're edible, she's a nice gal to know.

Though, I dunno...there's something about NetBSD-tan, she may very well be my favorite BSD sister...

QuoteAgreed, such drama, such sap.

But by this point, I'm really begining to think that the official motto for the Internet Explorer series should be something along the lines of.

Internet Explorer 7.0 : "What, it crashed again?!? >: ("
Heheh

Firefox FTW!!!

QuoteOh you, C-chan...

Did I mention I'm all for this rule? Especially that last part.
*Naughty chuckle*
Oh man, there should be a "giant chicks fanclub" around here by now XD

Bella

Finally finished, my Multics-sama picture:

I call it, O Fortuna! I made the lines on the wings lighter, as well as lightening the lines on the metallic objects, her face, and a few other key areas.

And here, have some Multics daemon too:

This was meant to be included in the above Multics-sama picture; but I figured it was getting too busy already.

NejinOniwa

Bella, you have too much time on your hands.

C-Chan

QuoteAhhhh, C-Chan wanted me to post my sketches for the BSD-tans. So here they are:

WOOHOO!!!  Finally!  These girls have seen the world outside C-chan's musty old PM inbox.  ^.^;

And HOW!  Tell me these gals aren't gorgeous!  ^__^

QuoteYeah, give it a try

Like all things, it works for a while,... until I'm tied up with something else.  ^^;

Le sigh....

QuoteHmmm...I don't know. I know pigs are symbolically intelligent, generous, and cunning :P

Surely SOMEONE wants one of these.... ^__^

QuoteBut what I meant was, eagles are considered more of a swift, intelligent animal, while lions are more of a courageous, agressive animal (and what I was hinting at was, GECOS-san's...the arch-rival of Multics-sama...anthropomorphism is the lion).

Oh yeah, I remember she had elements of a lion as well as a phoenix for her anthroporphism (albeit more a lion).

That's why I'd really like to see modern-day GECOS-sama living within the shadow of the CIOST, as she's the only one with the seniority and the backbone to raise points of contention with VMS-sama (at least more openly).  `v'

QuoteIt's amazing how well some of the anthropomorphisms are for some OS-tans; I realize how well suited VMS-sama is to the shark; they are constantly in motion, adaptable, remorseless, and excellent hunters and defenders.

Fufu... the Bella-hime gets it so nicely!  ^.^

QuoteAnd I found this works quite well for about every OS-tan anthropomorphism, even those of Plan 9-san/rabbit, Minix-san/racoon! Unfortunetly, I couldn't find any info on the symbolic nature of penguins. Lawl.

Oh?  Penguins are hard to justify for Linux-sama?  '.'

Lesse....

- Extremely sociable
- Lives and thrives where few other beings dare approach
- Child-rearing is shared equally between the father and mother, and even amongst strangers (to an extent).
- Prefers to walk slowly, but proudly and unwavering, towards a destination.
- Can't fly, but can swim like the wind!
- Puts up with harsh cold environments, sea lions, and a whole LOT OF CRAP.  ^v^'

Yep,... can't see why the symbolism ain't valid.  ^__~

QuoteBut I am reconsidering CTSS-sama's anthropomorphism...perhaps...

Perhaps.....?  ^.^

...

...An ostrich?  ^v^

QuoteYou did the same for our PCLOS-sama picture, if I recall correctly. At any rate, perhaps this is something I may try out...on a chibi or something. Then again, I do use larger strokes...so it may be more noticeable and thus more distracting.

I did?  huh,.. can't remember now....  ^.^

Colored lines and thin strokes are not supposed to be paired, though,... I just did so because, lately, thin strokes have been rather popular with me.  Where I lack in some areas (such as clothing), I think I make up for in the area of photorealism and lighting,... so naturally, I develop my techniques gradually to enhance those strengths.

Judging from some of Darknight's later works, though, I don't think large strokes and colored strokes will conflict,... they should match rather nicely I think.  ^^

QuoteIt's hard to explain, but basically...I find one point that will be the "top" of the shaded area, and another that will be the "end point". I go back and forth like a zig-zag to hash out the basic form, then go back and shape it into the correct shape, and make the smaller shaded areas...

Which reminds me,... have you found any use for that... "smudge" tool thingy in Inkscape 0.46?  Every time I think I might use it, I always end up using something else.  Guess I haven't found anything organic enough to use it on.... ^^'

QuoteI sketched up a couple of very quick n' dirty tutorials on how I make folds. Like I said, it's more of a feeling of where they should be...it's not as technical as a lot of tutorials make it seem.

Basic skirts:
http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s320/BellasOS-tans/tutorial.png

Long skirts/dresses:
http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s320/BellasOS-tans/tutorial3.png

Oh you're too much, Bella-hime!  These are TRES FAN-TAS-TIQUE!!!  ^V^

Your first tutorial!  This is indeed cause for celebration!!  ^V^

I'll be right back and consult the Master of Booze herself.... ^__^

*scurries over to Mac OSX Server-tan*

*chit chat*

*scurries back*

Okay, bottoms up!!  ^V^

But in all seriousness, these are wonderful, and I absolutely positively thank you dearly for creating them!  A good artist will make stunning, beautiful drawings, but only a GREAT artist has the self-confidence and passion to share that gift with others!  ^___^

Obviously you're "bella" in more ways than one!  ^v^

QuoteI'm more like a phoenix, I guess :P

Whoops,... now we're gonna get a GECOS-sama comic.  ^.^

QuoteOh no...just as I feared...XD

*cracks knuckles*

Yooooooooooooosh!  `v'

Shall I start with the time you rescued a manic-depressive pig from plunging into the depths of retirement, or the time you used your super-heroine like spirit of compromise and compassion to save a thread from a unilateral operating system flame war?  I can just go all day with this,... sorry, but at this point is a matter of whether you want to float up with helium or hydrogen.... ^v^

QuoteI'm still a beginer at doing this but, here goes.

*Swoons*

OMG!  No kidding son... you've got a LONG way to go before you can swoon like a Pro.  `v'

Here, observe....

....

DRAGON SWOOOOOoooooooooooOOOOOOONAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

....

Did you take notes?  ^^

QuoteOooh Nice. I see "Puffy" the OpenBSD-tan has made her triumphant return.

Yeah, neither Bella nor I had a think against the Puffy design,... we just wanted a few more feminie features is all.  ^^

QuoteI like your design for DragonflyBSD-tan. Cute. She's mere inches away from beating Emuii and Konata to "most extreme hairstyle" XD

Ain't it so.  ^___^
But a lot of our home-brewed OS-tans have pretty funky hair.  I mean, OS/2-sama can MOVE hers, for crying out loud.  Fufufu... ^.^

QuoteHey, it's FreeB-chan  She's still my favorite of the BSD-tans. (Aside from Plan-9-sama and crew, but that's a different group.)
And who's this with her? NetBSD-tan. Cool, I like her too.

If I manage that far, FreeB-chan will actually be kneeling besides Inferno-chan.  It's a bit of a shame since this won't show off her height very much (second tallest of the Userspace Gang, behind the statuesque OpenBSD-san), but should make for more Cuteâ,,¢ and greater on her closeness with Inferno-chan.

QuoteOh you, C-chan...

Did I mention I'm all for this rule? Especially that last part.
*Naughty chuckle*

Speaking of which, I've gotten the rather S-T-R-A-N-G-E delusion that I can draw z/OS-sama concurrently with Bella-hime's BSD-tans.  I don't think that'll happen in a million years,... not in my state anyway,... so I've been bouncing around the idea of making THAT Open Sauce from the start,... kinda like a mini-FOSA if you will.

In any event, you might be interested in the height chart [attached] that I built to prepare for her epic drawing,... as you can see, there's much room for our mutual interest.  ^^'
I even did it in Imperial units, for your convenience.  `v'

QuoteOh man, there should be a "giant chicks fanclub" around here by now XD

You'd be surprised,.. I might not join regardless.  Consider it a rather,... private,... sacred... affair....  That's why I viewed the GTS OS-tan thread with some suspicion, since a lot of like-minded [older] people like me have variations of that mindset.  Guess it's the byproduct of not growing up in the Internet Age.  Â¬Â¬

QuoteAh, yes, FreeB-chan...unless you're edible, she's a nice gal to know.

And even if you're edible, she's still nice.  Her stomach lining is as smooth as a pillow and as warm as fine bed sheets.  ^^;

QuoteFinally finished, my Multics-sama picture:

What was that thing I said earlier?  ''

*ponders*

...

Oh yeah... ^^

...

DRAGON SWOOOOOoooooooooooOOOOOOONAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

QuoteI call it, O Fortuna! I made the lines on the wings lighter, as well as lightening the lines on the metallic objects, her face, and a few other key areas.

Even though she was perfect before, the changes you made transcend your work to the level of GAWDLY!  ^^
Tell me again why I SHOULDN'T inflate your ego?  `v'

Nice touch on the bed sheets, btw!  ^v^b

QuoteAnd here, have some Multics daemon too:

This was meant to be included in the above Multics-sama picture; but I figured it was getting too busy already.

Ahh,... pleasantly cute Retainer chick.  Simple but addictive to look at it,... me likey.  ^^
Poor thing probably had a loadfull each morning getting the Mistress' hair done and stuff.  ^v^'

Quote*explodes into ASCII*

I swear that looks like a coked-up Mario and Yoshi.  ^v^;

Bella

Now that you mention it, I do have too much time of my hands...I'm just really good at using the time I do have. This is the result of an hour here and there over nearly a month's time.

*waves Nejin-san closer*

It's not that...I have found an incredible way to bend time to my liking. I must have developed this power after spending too much time in front of the microwave or something!

QuoteLike all things, it works for a while,... until I'm tied up with something else. ^^;

Le sigh....

Yeah, this only works if you have the time, of course. But I guess...it's sort of a slow and steady thing. If you work on a drawing a bit by bit, and try not to adhere to any time frame (as in, oh I have to finish this within __), it'll eventually come along...

QuoteSurely SOMEONE wants one of these.... ^__^

Yum!

QuoteOh yeah, I remember she had elements of a lion as well as a phoenix for her anthroporphism (albeit more a lion).

Yeah, I think a lion would fit her more than a phoenix, now...

QuoteThat's why I'd really like to see modern-day GECOS-sama living within the shadow of the CIOST, as she's the only one with the seniority and the backbone to raise points of contention with VMS-sama (at least more openly). `v'

As OS-tans go, GECOS-san would be one of the more...pretentious ones...let's let the Jargon File speak for me.

http://www.faqs.org/docs/jargon/G/GCOS.html

But yeah, I do think that she'd be one to have conflicts with VMS-sama...or Multics-sama...or Unix-sama...she is God's Chosen Operating System after all (this won't make sense unless you read the link, lol).

QuoteOh? Penguins are hard to justify for Linux-sama? '.'

Lesse....

Yep,... can't see why the symbolism ain't valid. ^__~

Oh, not that...I meant, I could find no information on the symbolism...never mind...

But yes! You have pointed out some very good penguin/Linux-sama connections. But you forgot to mention, penguins are excellent dancers. So is Linux-sama. That there was a Happy Feet reference.

*dies of shame*

QuotePerhaps.....? ^.^

...

...An ostrich? ^v^

....More like a raven ;)

QuoteI did? huh,.. can't remember now.... ^.^

Colored lines and thin strokes are not supposed to be paired, though,... I just did so because, lately, thin strokes have been rather popular with me. Yes, you did use colored lines! I just looked at the source today ^_^

Now that you mention it, Darknight does use colored strokes, too. I always liked how his drawings turned out.

QuoteWhich reminds me,... have you found any use for that... "smudge" tool thingy in Inkscape 0.46? Every time I think I might use it, I always end up using something else. Guess I haven't found anything organic enough to use it on.... ^^'

Nope, not really...I think I tried it, but...I didn't really see anything noticeable...O__o

QuoteOh you're too much, Bella-hime! These are TRES FAN-TAS-TIQUE!!! ^V^

Thank you! I just wanted to show that making folds isn't half as difficult as most tutorials make it seem...

QuoteWhoops,... now we're gonna get a GECOS-sama comic. ^.^

That would be one helluva comic O__O

Quote*cracks knuckles*

Yooooooooooooosh! `v'

Shall I start with the time you rescued a manic-depressive pig from plunging into the depths of retirement, or the time you used your super-heroine like spirit of compromise and compassion to save a thread from a unilateral operating system flame war? I can just go all day with this,... sorry, but at this point is a matter of whether you want to float up with helium or hydrogen.... ^v^

MEH EGO!!! ^////////^

QuoteYeah, neither Bella nor I had a think against the Puffy design,... we just wanted a few more feminie features is all. ^^

Incidentally, I had some ideas for OpenBSD-tan's attitude. Perhaps I'll elaborate in the Theories thread.

QuoteAin't it so. ^___^
But a lot of our home-brewed OS-tans have pretty funky hair. I mean, OS/2-sama can MOVE hers, for crying out loud. Fufufu... ^.^

All of my designs end up having either a kinda "widows peak" with bangs off to either side, or long bangs held back. I guess this comes from the horrors I faced with bangs! (Okay, not horrors...but they were damn annoying!)

QuoteIf I manage that far, FreeB-chan will actually be kneeling besides Inferno-chan. It's a bit of a shame since this won't show off her height very much (second tallest of the Userspace Gang, behind the statuesque OpenBSD-san), but should make for more Cuteâ,,¢ and greater on her closeness with Inferno-chan.

That's an interesting idea...

And wow, she is HUGE.

You lost me. I think that may be a good thing. o__O

QuoteAnd even if you're edible, she's still nice. Her stomach lining is as smooth as a pillow and as warm as fine bed sheets. ^^;

*still lost*

QuoteEven though she was perfect before, the changes you made transcend your work to the level of GAWDLY! ^^
Tell me again why I SHOULDN'T inflate your ego? `v'

Nice touch on the bed sheets, btw! ^v^b

Thanks! I just whipped up that background quite quickly...honestly, I didn't want it to distract from the main focus (Multics-sama).

Anything else you notice that was missing before? Say...a reference to Multics-sama being a timesharing system...?

QuoteAhh,... pleasantly cute Retainer chick. Simple but addictive to look at it,... me likey. ^^
Poor thing probably had a loadfull each morning getting the Mistress' hair done and stuff. ^v^'

Heehee...

Kami-Tux

Wow! I saw Multics-sama already this morning, but wasn't logged in and thus couldn't post how amazed I was and still am about the amount of detail you put into this picture. The staff looks great in its extreme detail! But then: Everthing in the picture is extremely detailled. It is awesome! *swooooooooooooooooooooooons*
