Maybe LOST takes place in another dimension, where it's RSX-sama who builds an empire and reigns supreme, and Windows NT is based on Unix (maybe called Windows NX?). ^.^

As for real OSs being portrayed in fiction, I was watching Jurassic Park a while back, and there came a part when the park's engineer's granddaughter (the self-professed hacker) got on one of the park's computers and was like "This is a Unix system!"

And I was like, "Whoa, Unix got a mention in one of my favorite movies!"

Now that I really look at him. He reminds me of the only character Mugen comes with by default Kung Fu man.
(Mugen only comes with one character you have to download the rest that other people have made.)

Okay, posting this the second time...



My first finished chibi, featuring GECOS-sama, everyone's favorite Unix-sama mentor and Multics-sama tormentor.

I swear on all that is good in this world that I posted this pic two days ago, but it has since gone missing.

Meaning either there's a wandering black hole roaming teh internets and sucking up random data here and there, or I in fact went back in time and un-posted it, little to my current consiousness' knowledge, or it violated some forum size restrictions. But aren't the first two a helluva lot more interesting explanations?

When this happens to me, it's usually because I previewed my post, then navigated away without actually posting it.  When it's a black hole, though, I usually hide for a very, very long time until it passes over.

Aside from all that, GECOS-sama's outfit is quite fascinating. ^__^  She's very enjoyable to look at.

Thank you, I'm happy you like her! I have to say you inspired me with her outfit; I tried to make it a mix of Victorian and Japanese styles (because GECOS is from the 60s and a lot of our 60s OS-tans dress in rather old-fashion styles, and GECOS was quite popular in Japan later on).

And hooray! There is a Damn Small Solaris-tan! Once you make a colored version, I can draw a group picture with her and the other Damn Small-tans!

DOS Batch 11-tan is RT 11-tan's adoptive mother and sworn enemy? That's awful! What caused them to be enemies? Anyways, I guess that RT 11-tan was not sad at all about DOS Batch 11-tan dying...

Well...maybe I exaggerate a tad. Batch 11-tan was something of the caretaker of RT 11-tan and RSTS-tan (since Batch 11 was used in the creation of both OSs). She claims herself as the mother of RSX-tan, even though there's a lot of evidence that RSX-tan's heritage lies elsewhere. The reason why Batch 11 usage dropped a lot was the creation of much more usable RT 11, so I figure the two characters would have a rocky relationship. Still, she really does love her "kids"; she just doesn't always show it (and although she enjoys chasing folks with knifes and such, she'd never hurt them...or at least not her family)

Somehow I see Batch 11-tan as being a bit like Diva from Blood +; somewhat childish, very temperamental especially toward her caretakers, but still with a devotion toward her children.

Haha! The famous Slackwares-worshiping-Unix-sama pic...

I saw that just about every Linux desktop environment/window manager has been ported to Solaris, so her enjoyment of trying on Linux-sama's garb might be a fun little quirk for her.

Lesse...Slackware-san wants to be a Unix, Solaris-san likes being a Linux (or at least dressing the part)...yup, that's a pretty screwy family O__O

Still trying to think up a color scheme. Maybe light red/blondish hair, she'll be wearing a little Duke-inspired hat, and perhaps blueish clothes...

Granted she's not the friendliest puppy in the kennel, I think her head could've used a size-doubling to capitalize on the "cute factor" more.  As it is now, she's cute but still bound by normal portions somewhat.  '__'

However, at least now you see the benefit of quick-deployment chibis!  ^__^
You have an idea about her hair, eye color, decorations, dress,... Your beautiful fold-hand does wonders even on the chibi level, and the tanto is as well-rendered as it is adorable.  ^^

I was recently reading about the history of BSD, and it turns out that, at Berkeley, BSD and Bell Lab's Unix has a strange history with VMS and RSTS.

Maybe I'll elaborate in the theories thread.

I should note, this is my first time attempting any sort of forced perspective. In her right hand, Solaris-tan is holding a magnifying glass...thus the distortion of the size of her eye. Really just a rough vector sketch, though...

Ooooh, cute! And 30 minutes? Wow! That's pretty amazing...

I like her a bit better this way. The hat I'm a little lukewarm on...never been that big of a fan of cowboy hats outside of rodeos, though, so that's just me. We don't see many ethnic variations with OS-tans, though, so I'm liking this.
