I just looked at your latest pictures and they were absolutely awesome! I am just back from swooning over the Christmas scene.

QuoteMultics-sama's outfit looks absolutely amazing!

Thanks! I gotta say some of your tips on fashion design, like being bold and mixing styles and such have helped me out ;010 I looked at pix of old victorian and French style of dress, and gave it my own flair...

QuoteI just looked at your latest pictures and they were absolutely awesome! I am just back from swooning over the Christmas scene.

I'm glad you like them! And as you can tell I've taken quite an interest in Unix-and-like-tans ;)
The Christmas scene just about took it out of me O____O But it was a lot of fun and I like the outcome of it.

Oh yeah, and I think it's finally finished...

My my, aren't you lovely~

I am almost speechless from your latest picture! Multics-sama looks absolutely stunning and with such an elegant outfit and with such wonderful shading and attention to detail! (that must take the patience of a saint to do!) ;019

Don't mind me, just stopping by very quickly to swoon my proper respects.  ^___^

Dood! This Multics-tan pic is simply god-tier! great detail, on the outfit background and Multics herself. You must really have alot of patience to do somethin as epic as this.

QuoteYes, I tried to make her look a bit like Unix-sama (especially in the eyes and hair), but, yeah, like a ton prettier

Just got a cool, albeit borderline-heretical idea for a drawing.....

.....

UNIX-sama's Multics-sama cosplay.  ^^;

QuoteThe folds I worked out 100% in the hand sketch phase. A lot of drawings I loose "steam" on and have to struggle through the vector sketch, but this one I couldn't wait to finish

The day i need commission work done on high-fabric drawings, can I count on you?  ^.^

QuoteHmmm....just from what you've said before, wasn't she supposed to be missing one wing after the...."incident" : |
I dunno, when I do a drawing of an older Multics-sama she might just have a broken wing that never really recovered (I don't think she'd even be able to move it too well). Somehow I think she's been through enough (them Multicians have gotten to me).

Agreed.  ^^
That description was just for melodrama, but either the damage wasn't as severe, or the wing was simply reattached after some VERY horrified servants found her in the sorry state after the battle.  Course, given the medical technology at the time, the best they could do was put it back on and perhaps restore a handful of nerve connections.

QuoteAnd on a sort of curious note, when did she and Unix-sama get into that battle? I'm guessing sometime in the early/mid 70s...

Correct.  UNIX-sama herself was born in the late 60's, so in between training and skirmishes some time had past to build her reputation as a real underdog.  ^__^

QuoteYour gift was not being served as a Christmas ham :P

GAH!!!!!!!  >v<

*collpases*

QuoteSpeaking of which, I thought of an interesting, appropriate battle method for her. Multics introduced the concept of security rings, which as I understand a lot of OSs use today (wiki it, it's a hard concept to explain).

Anyhoo, I suppose Multics-sama could generate a powerful circular forcefield around (actually originating from) her, which could either work as a shield, or blast outward, knocking down any opponents too close to the "epicenter". So theoretically, she could take out attackers without even breaking a sweat

I should mention, even before I had any concepts for a Multics-sama, I thought Unix-sama might have a similar (albeit much less exotic) form of forcefield manipulation, so I think all fits well.

I wholeheartedly support whatever would make her look cool and... "pyrotechnicy"....  ^___^

I had similar ideas for UNIX-sama, although mostly fire-based for whatever XYZ reasons I had at the time (probably to add a genetic connection to Solaris-sama and the BSDs).

Don't get me wrong, though,... Inferno-chan is still queen of fire-based attacks. ^.^

QuoteAlso, (among other) VMS also used "rings" quite early on. I dunno if VMS-sama quite has power of this caliber, perhaps she just mows down attackers around her with that clever of hers

Physical attacks would be all but useless to someone like UNIX-sama, so clearly she has to have her own range of spell-based attacks if she can ever pose as a potential "match" to her.  Due to her upbringing, though, she much prefers to cross iron with iron -- this is why Linux-sama is her favorite adversary, as she too prefers the zen simplicty of her trusty spear (preferring to use "Openn Sourcery" for more constructive purposes).  ^___^

QuoteI think after loosing most of her "magical" powers, she would have had to use a lot of her own physical strength in fights, which couldn't have helped her much...it probably added to her downfall.

Correct.  ^____^

QuoteCurrently, though she's alive, I think she's all but powerless. She's probably not even conscious for the most part...at least not until they make some kind of emulator for modern computers, or fire up an old Honeywell mainframe :P

Correct x2!!  ^v^

QuoteAh, I know I'm quite busy with other stuff, but I think I came up with a great one-panel comic idea. One clue: Rhapsody-tan and NT-tan after an evening of drinking.

Oh wait,... you proposed that idea earlier, no?  ^___^

QuoteAnd it's going to be musical! 100 points to anyone who can what the song will be...a hint: Think Jimmy Buffet XD

A Buffet is something you eat at, no?    ^^;

QuoteThanks! I gotta say some of your tips on fashion design, like being bold and mixing styles and such have helped me out  I looked at pix of old victorian and French style of dress, and gave it my own flair...

QuoteOh yeah, and I think it's finally finished...

Granted I'm also swooning from the old-fashioned "filtered" look you posted up in your gallery, the final is absolutely jaw-dropping!  ^V^

You already know how I feel about the Great Grandmother, but I love your work on the couch, the table, the drapery, the hellenic columns,.... even the plant!  Everything looks and blends harmoniously!!!  ^.^

QuoteDood! This Multics-tan pic is simply god-tier! great detail, on the outfit background and Multics herself. You must really have alot of patience to do somethin as epic as this.

Indeed.  Especially after the Nix Christmas pic, I have to wonder where she gets the stamina!  ^v^

To answer you guys, this was actually a relatively easy picture for me to finish. A lot of time, half-way though my vector sketch I'll wonder what the hell I'm doing, and either give up or come close to. With this drawing, I somehow avoided this; perfecting it took a bit of time, but I think it was a very strong concept and I was able to follow through. I'm glad you the results!

UNIX-sama's Multics-sama cosplay. ^^;

OMG. Put that in line of the pix I must someday draw along with my Puma-chan with an automatic weapon pic! I mean, I'll probably be smitted by Unix-sama soon anyhow, why not?

Oh yeah, and what about Slackware-chan cosplaying as Unix-sama along side Unix-sama cosplaying as Multics? (now that's a thought XD)

QuoteThe day i need commission work done on high-fabric drawings, can I count on you? ^.^

Sure, why not!

QuoteAgreed. ^^
That description was just for melodrama, but either the damage wasn't as severe, or the wing was simply reattached after some VERY horrified servants found her in the sorry state after the battle. Course, given the medical technology at the time, the best they could do was put it back on and perhaps restore a handful of nerve connections.

Either way...poor Multics-sama...though I can't say she didn't have it coming to her. She obviously made a terrible underestimation of her enemy.

I suppose if CTSS-san was still around (perhaps, as she lived until 73'), she would have been one of those helpers who found her -__- I almost want to think that.

QuoteI wholeheartedly support whatever would make her look cool and...

Yeah, the idea for the ring forcefield just came to me after I read about the "rings" ;)

And Unix-sama having fire-based attacks is kinda interesting (Though maybe Unix-sama possesses a bit of a combination? Like she can control flames, rather than just cause blatant destruction?)

...and it would make for a good Inferno-chan explanation. It skips a generation :P

QuotePhysical attacks would be all but useless to someone like UNIX-sama, so clearly she has to have her own range of spell-based attacks if she can ever pose as a potential "match" to her. Due to her upbringing, though, she much prefers to cross iron with iron -- this is why Linux-sama is her favorite adversary, as she too prefers the zen simplicty of her trusty spear (preferring to use "Openn Sourcery" for more constructive purposes). ^___^

I think someone like VMS-sama's "magical" attacks might be more akin to the super-alchemy of FMA (IE, thought her learning to manipulate energy and objects around her); whereas Multics-sama and the Unixes possess more of a self-generated power. I've thought for a while this might fit...perhaps it's my rather State Militaristic-view of the DECs (I mean, like, minus the warmongering and mass destruction  ;013).

Though, yeah, I do agree she'd be more comfortable with using a sword. Never thought of why Linux-sama would have never used the powers she was born with (seems only logical she would have some powers, as the Unixes and Minix-sensei have such), but I think your right: She uses them for good, and would rather give her opponents a fair fight ;)

QuoteCorrect. ^____^

QuoteCorrect x2!! ^v^

Do I win a prize now?

Thanks! Yeah, the background I just sorta made up in an hour or so.

QuoteIndeed. Especially after the Nix Christmas pic, I have to wonder where she gets the stamina! ^v^

Oh and yeah, that would be "doodette" also. ^___^

QuoteSure, why not!

Excellent.  ^v^

Cause you know I still need to make a dedicated Unix-sama portraiture.  ^^
14 months and counting, and no awe-inspiring picture of Unix-sama.  I think I have the skills now to do the proper lighting effects, but you're the undisputed Queen of Cloth.  ^___^

QuoteEither way...poor Multics-sama...though I can't say she didn't have it coming to her. She obviously made a terrible underestimation of her enemy.

I suppose if CTSS-san was still around (perhaps, as she lived until 73'), she would have been one of those helpers who found her -__- I almost want to think that.

Which does remind me... recent evidence brought to light, and also corraborated by my search here:

http://developers.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/09/23/1941257

Proves that CTSS-sama was resurrected, has the potential... at least in modern times... to help out her descendants from the shadows.  Then again, it would still be very sad since there's not really much she can do.  '___'

QuoteAnd Unix-sama having fire-based attacks is kinda interesting (Though maybe Unix-sama possesses a bit of a combination? Like she can control flames, rather than just cause blatant destruction?)

Oh right right, of course she'd have a variety of other spells (don't forget the one where she changes into an owl that I mentioned a long time ago.

I thought of fire a lot when envisioning how our characters would look like in a OS-tan themed MUGEN game.  I envisioned UNIX-sama to be like an end boss for certain characters, with two stages: one where she fights you "fairly" in her wheelchair (but with a lot of forcefield defenses), and two where the entire level is engulfed in flames, the music gets all "Fithos Lusec", and you have to fight a fast-moving, pissed-off version of her.

....

Hey, I'm allowed to dream no?  ^v^;

QuoteI think someone like VMS-sama's "magical" attacks might be more akin to the super-alchemy of FMA (IE, thought her learning to manipulate energy and objects around her); whereas Multics-sama and the Unixes possess more of a self-generated power. Yes, the way I see it, while a lot of variety exists within individuals, whole OS-tan "groups" harbor a unique ability and/or style on average.  The Unices employ what I nickname "Magitech", or an approach that combines heavy offensive magic usage alongside conventional military hardware and tactics (which, given the similarity with the pragmatic Unix philosophy, would likely be Russian based).  ^^

The Linuces employ "Open Sorcery" which is a new but very powerful field of magic that covers all uses, but is generally focused on defense, healing, building, scholarly endeavors, and personal empowerment (not unlike the Paladin skills from the Diablo II game).  Their followers are many and fervent, and yet when pushed into battle the Lincues prefer to fight themselves.  Not that this is a particular handicap, since their Open Sourcery turns each and everyone into a super warrior of sorts.  For a contemporary comparsion of what a Linux army would look like, imagine a charging horde of Jedi.  Or,... if you really have to because of the spears,... the Spartans from 300,... but with much greater strength, nonexistent bloodlust, and an adherence to historical accuracy. ^v^'

With a few additional exceptions, that's about as far as I got regarding group specific powers.  So yeah, by all means I think making the DECs specialize in alchemy (and for that matter geomancy) to compliment their superior swordsmanship is a great way to give them an identity.  ^___^

It's not just a dream..It's a possibility. After all, I am a noob MUGEN programer. If only I had the sprites I might could make something like that. Fufufu.

Yes, that's the Goddess cosplaying as Multics-sama. And that's Slackware-chan cosplaying as Unix-sama (and clearly having the time of her life!)
Well, I suppose the end times are near. At least for me. I gotta go now, as Unix-sama herself just showed up to kick my ass!

I wouldn't go as far to say she's resurrected...I don't think release of source code is enough to warrant this. Yes, I know we've assumed Multics-sama is alive now, but hopefully the Multicians can do as big as they talk and soon they'll have emulators made.
Source code being released is like saying, if you want to, bring this system back. But it still has to be seen if anyone has : /

Sounds like it would fit them...

I should also note that alchemy is usually considered a learned skill, which would account for a lack of magical power with NT-san or any of her decedents ;)
The irony could be that perhaps the DEC's swordsmanship runs a bit deeper than their alchemy skills, as NT-san seems to be quite naturally apt to a blade...

NT-Sama is skilled at weilding a sword? ^-^ Perhaps some of this passed down to her daughter Inu-T (I have seen a pic on Inu-t with a sword).

Quote from: "Bella"Hmmm....I'm not quite sure what you mean...

The background animation for the stage.. It could be made of screenshots of this forum. Or it could have all the member's avatars in it.
Example: You bella, the purple haied girl. C-Chan the black pig. Me the purple haired fox-boy. Aurora's avatar, the blonde girl with the hat and wand. Capt. Brendan the Space Marine in the armor.

Now do you see?
