QuoteI take it you tried out gOS already, which is why you know your on the verge of drawing complete, unbridled win! ^-^

Nope, not yet :P

Still having fun with Ubuntu (ZOMG I figured out how to un-install stuff! Yay!)

QuoteAnyway, know you wrote a lot, but have a few things to do so will be just posting the lighting suggestions I made earlier. You don't have to do them, since you're image is already quite detailed -- but maybe it'll come in handy sometime....

Like I said before, I might take the lazy way out and PS it...

QuoteThat is....

AWESOME!!

Too much for words..

^____^ (_x4)

Surely you can't have a copyright on that C-Chan.

Oh yeah, I'm sure he does. He's more proprietary than M$, IBM, and The SCO Group combined O___O

Anyhoo, thanks! Think of this picture as my gift to the forum this holiday season ;)

QuoteOh, and Remember what I said about a certain MP3 that would fit this?

Well here. http://ostan-collections.net/downloads.php?view=detail&id=107

Sorry C-chan, I don't have it in an OGG format. Will this do?

I took a listen...yeah, that does fit a bit :)

Up to x9999999999999, so pony up d00d!  ^v^

*expects to be showered by tidal wave of royalty fees*  ^___________^

Of course.  ^^
I only said I was a strong and firm supporter of OGG,... otherwise, I'd whither and DIE if I didn't have the ability to play MP3's too.  ^.^
(A lot of my favorite net radios use it)

Yeah, the song is dynamite for that scene!!  ^v^

*imagines Unix-tans and Linux-tans grudgingly marching around a pole*

Through Synaptic, I hope?  ^^'

Yeah, it was hard for me to figure that out with SUSE Linux,. but easy as pie with Xubuntu and the incredible, edible Synaptic, bless its hearts.  ^V^

*stifles tear*

QuoteLike I said before, I might take the lazy way out and PS it...

Ehhh, just forget about it.  It's not really a big thing anyway -- just consider it an extension of my Inkscape tutorial.  -v-

BTW, want the source?  It's just slabs of color over a link to your picture so didn't think you'd want it, but maybe you do?

QuoteOh yeah, I'm sure he does. He's more proprietary than M$, IBM, and The SCO Group combined O___O

Very good,... nothing less from the person who can read VMS-sama so well!  ^v^

*taps foot impatiently, awaiting tidal wave of royalties.  -.-

I dunno >//////<

It was the thing that said "add/remove programs" in the menu...

Sure, I guess...if it's not much trouble...

C-Chan

Hmmmm,... it's possible it could be Synaptic.  Then again, i also recall there was another packager besides Synaptic and Aptitude that had lots of nice pictures, but really wasn't very good.  ^-^;

Oh well,..... in any event, now that you know that, you're free to install/uninstall stuff in gOS as well!  ^v^

Added after 1 minutes:

QuoteSure, I guess...if it's not much trouble...

GAAAH!!  >v<

Technically-speaking, it's no trouble at all.  ^^'
In reality, though, it's in my powered-off desktop PC.  ^____^;
[I'm typing this from Eee-chan]

No problem, I'll just send it to you later.  ^^

C-Chan

Okay, got it.  ^_____^

Make sure to extract both files to the same folder.

Thanks! I'll have to try that out.

Now for what I drew while I should have been working on my comic:

What the hell? Late 60's Multics-sama! Where did she come from?!

You wouldn't believe how quickly I got to this point...like, three and a half hours tops. Must have been because I had a great sketch to begin with that's been in the works for quite a while. And there's a sorta easter egg...although I dunno if I should leave it in the finished work. But I think it kinda adds to her sorceress look.

C-Chan

Like FREAKIN SWOONAGE~!!!!!!!!!  @o@

*with last bit of consciousness, zeroes in on the nape of her neck for possible Easter Egg*

...So I take it you guys like Multics-sama, no? ;)

Anyhoo, here's an alpha-ish version of the pic...I'm pretty happy with it now, but feel free to point out anything. All I have to do is shade the chair and add a background (I somehow want to add a grandfather clock...long story)...

And a closeup of her head and neck

BTW, that easter egg of sorts is that Multics logo tattoo...I didn't know how it would work out, but I think is adds to the "sorceress" look. I made her feathers black tipped as female snowy owls often have scalloping, and I thought pure white might look a bit too innocent...she may look elegant, but trust me, in battle she's about as dainty as an army tank :P

And I've gotten an idea for what could be one of the most tragic characters of OS yore; CTSS (that's Compatible Time-Sharing System)-san...gone, and quite forgotten.

(I checked...she's not even listed in the Annex thread!)

NejinOniwa

FUX
I WASTED MY "KITA"!!!
I need to spare them next time...can't use them on a first excerpt like that...will get repetitive...
*constrains self*
I shall be as Odysseus, who rode the storm listening to the song of the Sirens, bound to the mast! I shalt see, but I shall not KITA!

...Ki....ki...ki...ki-NO! AAGH THIS IS TOO MUCH!!!!! *runs off with massive nosebleed*

Bella

Thanks! I take it you like her...?

Quote*runs off with massive nosebleed*

*hands Nejin a bunch of tissues*

Now you surely see why she has legions upon legions of Multicians whom worship her :P

Holy hell!  The Great Grandmother is so drippingly beautiful, I can tell why UNIX-sama has a complex.  ^^'
The problem is that my comparison to her as a kind of "Cleopatra" is not altogether inaccurate (if anything, it's a bit lacking).  ^^;

I'm afraid at this point in the game I really can't contribute anything in the way of comments and suggestions, as just the shear detail of the folds in her dress leave me in A-W-E.  (and I imagine this is what passes for her as "casual" wear.... ^^;)
Her wings too are also done with great care,... it actually pains me to recall the fate that awaits them (since as you say, this picture is "taken" in the 60's).

I guess when it's time to apply shading to the couch, I'll be on you like a Hollywood Lighting Director.  ^^'

Hey now, I kinda-sorta got it right (even though I was swooning at the time I pointed it out), so like,.... don't I get a present or something?  ^_____^

Excellent call on the wings, btw.  ^.^
Indeed,... for the mother of the Great Mother, one can't expect her to be some lazy aristocrat sitting around on her royal laurels all day.  No ma'am, that woman's a biter, and she bites H-A-R-D.  ^v^

Even with only a portion of her power in her later [pre-resurrection] years, she should be rather tough no?

Oh no, actually she was in the Annex at one point,... but was removed just to enhance the extra tragedy.  ^__________^

fufufu....

Just kidding,... nope, the legendary Great Great Grandmother is fair game. ^^
I may have come across her name at some point,... but in my young and foolish braing I confused her with CTOS-tan (a much later OS-tan, who is actually a Binteji Renmei member... ^.^).

Sadly, I also concur that CTSS-tan would qualify as a Deceased-tan.

Yes, I tried to make her look a bit like Unix-sama (especially in the eyes and hair), but, yeah, like a ton prettier ;)

QuoteI'm afraid at this point in the game I really can't contribute anything in the way of comments and suggestions, as just the shear detail of the folds in her dress leave me in A-W-E. (and I imagine this is what passes for her as "casual" wear.... ^^

The folds I worked out 100% in the hand sketch phase. A lot of drawings I loose "steam" on and have to struggle through the vector sketch, but this one I couldn't wait to finish ;)

QuoteHer wings too are also done with great care,... it actually pains me to recall the fate that awaits them (since as you say, this picture is "taken" in the 60's).

Hmmm....just from what you've said before, wasn't she supposed to be missing one wing after the...."incident" : |
I dunno, when I do a drawing of an older Multics-sama she might just have a broken wing that never really recovered (I don't think she'd even be able to move it too well). Somehow I think she's been through enough (them Multicians have gotten to me).

And on a sort of curious note, when did she and Unix-sama get into that battle? I'm guessing sometime in the early/mid 70s...

QuoteI guess when it's time to apply shading to the couch, I'll be on you like a Hollywood Lighting Director. ^^'

Yeah, I've been working on the couch...

QuoteHey now, I kinda-sorta got it right (even though I was swooning at the time I pointed it out), so like,.... don't I get a present or something? ^_____^

Your gift was not being served as a Christmas ham :P

QuoteIndeed,... for the mother of the Great Mother, one can't expect her to be some lazy aristocrat sitting around on her royal laurels all day. No ma'am, that woman's a biter, and she bites H-A-R-D. ^v^

Speaking of which, I thought of an interesting, appropriate battle method for her. Multics introduced the concept of security rings, which as I understand a lot of OSs use today (wiki it, it's a hard concept to explain).

Anyhoo, I suppose Multics-sama could generate a powerful circular forcefield around (actually originating from) her, which could either work as a shield, or blast outward, knocking down any opponents too close to the "epicenter". So theoretically, she could take out attackers without even breaking a sweat ;)

I should mention, even before I had any concepts for a Multics-sama, I thought Unix-sama might have a similar (albeit much less exotic) form of forcefield manipulation, so I think all fits well.

Also, (among other) VMS also used "rings" quite early on. I dunno if VMS-sama quite has power of this caliber, perhaps she just mows down attackers around her with that clever of hers ;)

QuoteEven with only a portion of her power in her later [pre-resurrection] years, she should be rather tough no?

I think after loosing most of her "magical" powers, she would have had to use a lot of her own physical strength in fights, which couldn't have helped her much...it probably added to her downfall.

Currently, though she's alive, I think she's all but powerless. She's probably not even conscious for the most part...at least not until they make some kind of emulator for modern computers, or fire up an old Honeywell mainframe :P

QuoteOh no, actually she was in the Annex at one point,... but was removed just to enhance the extra tragedy. ^__________^

Hah.

Ah, I know I'm quite busy with other stuff, but I think I came up with a great one-panel comic idea. One clue: Rhapsody-tan and NT-tan after an evening of drinking.

And it's going to be musical! 100 points to anyone who can what the song will be...a hint: Think Jimmy Buffet XD

Siya

Multics-sama's outfit looks absolutely amazing!
