Too late,... still swooned.  See what you get for making such a drop-dead gorgeous pic?  ^___^

Give me another two hours till I recover consciousness,....  ^.^

*resumes swoon*

CaptBrenden

how come everytime I hear her name I feel like she should be kicking sailor moons arse?

C-Chan

*unswoons*

Oh right, Beryl is also the name of Sailor Moon's arch nemesis in the crappy US reedit.  Course, this is just Linux wearing a Beryl dress, but I'm sure that could be used to crack a joke or two at Linux-sama's expense.... -v-

In any case, I'm back!  ^___^
Time to oggle and goggle Linux-sama w/Beryl!  ^v^

*oggles and goggles*

I have no clue what that means, but that's fine cause when C-chan is happy he starts talking Crazy Talk, and when he absolutely makes no sense and talks in the third person, than obviously C-chan is quite happy.  ^__^

Where to begin, where to begin.... -v-

There's so much to choose from for such a closet-lecher and chauvinist pig as I.  ^___^

*swoons intentionally to clear up mind*

*self slap, self slap, self slap*
*drool wipe*

In any event, let me talk through this systematically.  ^___^;

BODY:  Just in case anyone had any doubts that uber geeks couldn't be sexy.  This just calls for an obscene and politically-incorrect Onomatopoeia of Approval!  ^V^

*tries howling like a love-starved wolf, but as a pig he ends up producing something akin to an aardvark's death rattle*

Certainly compared to the pitiful little transparent Aero skirts of many of the Vistans out there, this is certainly way more revealing and perhaps more in tune with the philosophies of the two desktop enhancers (Aero is restrictive, whereas Beryl gives you full and free-as-in-beer access to all the best known eyecandy and desktop aides).  ^__^

The prevalence of red (as in her undergarments) is quite natural given the red Beryl logo, and the fact that the default Windows Decorator on most systems (currently one called "Emerald") loads your windows with red crystalline task panes (personally, I always change them to green or teal to suit the name... ^.^).

By hitting the ALT+mouse scroll wheel, you can alter the transparency of the window on demand, one of my favorite productive features aside from the Mac OSX-like Expose effect.  So when I see her layers of clothes, I assume they're standard windows (plus one terminal window, that black one...) that have had their alpha levels reduced a tad....

For marketing purposes, of course.... ^___________^

*wipes drool*

Additionally, there's also a function that allows you to reduce the transparency of a window automatically based on usage, so if you have multiple windows open, the last ones accessed will appear almost fully transparent in the background, whereas the one currently in use is opaque.  Doubt this relates to the image, but just thought I'd mention it.  ^.^

CAPE:  Pure and simple reference to the red crystal Beryl logo.  Aside from beauty, it also lends a special kind of regality that suits her seniority quite well.  Truly redefines the phrase "Hot Mama" in ways that can make VMS-san jealous beyond belief.  ^__^

EARRINGS/HAIRBAND: Actually not terribly sure what the motif is here, although I guess the red-white-black of her head band is indicative of the website's color theme perhaps?  They still look cool, though, and add further to the elegant and regal feel.  Not sure if you've used it yet, but Beryl is surprisingly fast and snappy even on slightly older machines, and the effects amazingly professional despite being an alpha.

(although in fairness, a lot is owed to the work done on Compiz)

HEAD:  The pose itself is very enticing and well-portioned, and the head tops it off by adding an extra layer of charm and cuteness.  The expression on her face has the 3 C's: Calm and Composed and quite Confident in her appearance.  The eyes are exquisitely done in this picture.

I had forgotten that you opted for brown hair for your Linux-sama rendition, so for a moment there I hadn't recognized the famous girl in the penguin suit and KDE helmet.  But it is quite the winning combination of hooked bangs (to enhance cuteness) and the french twist with sweeping side (to add an almost divine sense of elegance).

If there's more to come, I'm not sure if my senses can take it, so if you hear a pig explode with pleasure overload in the distance, at least you'll know why.  ^__^

I want to call this my favorite of your pictures....... and I think i will...... ^v^

Again, great work Bella. She puts the "X" in "X Window System"!

QuoteOh right, Beryl is also the name of Sailor Moon's arch nemesis in the crappy US reedit. Course, this is just Linux wearing a Beryl dress, but I'm sure that could be used to crack a joke or two at Linux-sama's expense.... -v-

Sailor Moon? That was before my time. Like Evangelion or Ranma 1/2. When I was young, it was all about Zoids. And Pokemon. That's before I caught glimpse of Rozen Maiden some years later. And the rest is history...

QuoteIf there's more to come, I'm not sure if my senses can take it, so if you hear a pig explode with pleasure overload in the distance, at least you'll know why. ^__^

C-Chan is going explode! Do you know what this means? Bacon from heaven!!! Get me some eggs and pancakes...

QuoteI have no clue what that means, but that's fine cause when C-chan is happy he starts talking Crazy Talk, and when he absolutely makes no sense and talks in the third person, than obviously C-chan is quite happy. ^__^

Well, you got most of the metaphors right...one about her hair was the large curls on the sides, which could be very abstract GNU horns :)

QuoteBODY: Just in case anyone had any doubts that uber geeks couldn't be sexy. This just calls for an obscene and politically-incorrect Onomatopoeia of Approval! ^V^

Well, that was one of the metaphors. Beryl is pretty and all, but it only enhances the underlying beauty of Linux it(or, in this case,her)self.

QuoteThe prevalence of red (as in her undergarments) is quite natural given the red Beryl logo, and the fact that the default Windows Decorator on most systems (currently one called "Emerald") loads your windows with red crystalline task panes (personally, I always change them to green or teal to suit the name... ^.^).

Yup, those are windows. I didn't really think on the black one(s) as Terminal, but that could work ;)

QuoteCAPE: Pure and simple reference to the red crystal Beryl logo. Aside from beauty, it also lends a special kind of regality that suits her seniority quite well. Truly redefines the phrase "Hot Mama" in ways that can make VMS-san jealous beyond belief. ^__^

Yup! (though I wouldn't badmouth VMS-sama, we know she's psychotic O__O)

QuoteEARRINGS/HAIRBAND: Actually not terribly sure what the motif is here, although I guess the red-white-black of her head band is indicative of the website's color theme perhaps? I dunno what the motif is either :P I guess I though a tiara/earrings/necklace matching set would be cool, and I tied it in with the rest of the color scheme. However, I added blue, pink and yellow highlights just to break up the red/black/white deck-of-cards color scheme XD

And sadly, I haven't tried Beryl :..( I don't think it would run on a video card circa 1998. Maybe when I get K8 back (soon!) I'll try running a LiveCD...I don't know if I could use Beryl without installing anything, but K8 would certainly be new enough (2004) to run Beryl...

I did a lot of work on the hair; In addition to shading it, I added highlights. As I mentioned before, the hooked bangs are representing GNU horns ;)

Fufu... yeah, I don't think it would have a video card at all....  ^___^;
(maybe integrated stuff...)

And WOT?!!!!!!!!!!!!  @0@
Those WorstBuy baffoons STILL haven't finished with K8?!!  @@;

I knew it, I knew it,... they're up to something...
*sheds tear*
For all we know, those bastards are ravaging your poor XP-san.  >o<
Time to take up arms and rescue her!  ^0^

(on the other hand,....... didn't you also say that K8 was an eMachine....?  Â¬___¬; )

In any event, hopefully when you do get it back you'll be able to test out the LiveCD.  Given that it's probably for the best that you get used to troubleshooting, we have to make sure you can run your LiveCD alright.  ^.^

I know that distros like Sabayon and Knoppix can run Beryl via the LiveCD, but that might be disabled in PCLOS sessions (again, to save on boot-up time and memory management).  Not sure,... might have to test it out myself.  ^^'

If not, there are always the YouTube videos and/or your truly.  ^____^
*plays with Bery settings like a pig in a candy store*

Just one thing,... is K8 a 32bit machine or 64bit?  (knowing eMachine, I'm guessing the former)
It doesn't seem to matter for PCLOS as I've been able to install it on both, but the proprietary video drivers act goofy on my AMD64 (on the other hand, the card is an ATI.... ¬___¬; )

QuoteI did a lot of work on the hair; In addition to shading it, I added highlights. As I mentioned before, the hooked bangs are representing GNU horns

Aaa sou.... I had forgotten about that.  ^__^
C-chan approved abstract featurette!  ^v^

QuoteMmmmm.... (Sorry C-Chan, but I love a good breakfast!)

WAAAH!!  I can understand that from those other two vultures, but from YOU?!!!  @o@
Bad Bella-san!!!  ;^0^;

All for that.....

*slops unidentified grey stuff in a bowl*

...I'm giving you stuff that sorta, kinda looks like gruel.  -v-

Oh, she's been back for some time now. I just haven't gotten around to picking it up. Tomorrow, though :)

You see, I'm kinda in the great north woods of NH and the Best Buy is quite a drive away.

And did you know eMachines ranked second in "Reliability and Service" behind Lenovo in 2004 (K8's year?)

QuoteOi...K8's 64-bit (I'm almost 100% sure) AND runs an ATI card...Trouble?

.............................................................No comments, just prayers....  Â¬.¬

The gist of it is that ATI Linux drivers, despite being partially open-sourced, suck compared to the Nvidia ones (the ones they designed for AMD64's are particularly problematic.  And while your card probably might not have any problems (mine is an X600), your computer combination sounds eerily similar to my Acer (though admittedly, I had 3D issues even on Windows)....  -.-;

Just remember,.. when in doubt, Vesa is your friend.  ^________________^;

Well that's just unbelievable.  I still wonder how many Tomogachi's lie dead in people's basements and closets..... *shudders*  -v-;

KateOS-tan:

Her look (not particularly her personality), is loosely based off of the character Kate Austen from the TV series Lost.

Mostly because when I thought Kate I thought that character heehee.

I don't know why she's skating; I really don't. When I drew her I just knew she had to be rollerskating XD.

I see her as being quite upbeat and active; Never wanting a dull or quiet moment in her life; She tries to learn from server-tans and desktop-tans alike, hoping this will make her better.

Like her mom Slackware-tan and sisters, she loves and reveres Unix-sama.

C-Chan

WOW!  Someone's been to Distrowatch a lot lately!  ^.^

Fantastic work, and the hair is surprisingly fresh and original!  ^v^

And don't worry,... Knoppix-tan skates, so I guess she's just trying to learn from example.  ^___^

Tsubashi

Interesting indeed! Not a distro I've done a lot with, so I'm glad you've taken responsibility! Then again, don't you always? ^v^

I love your sketc- I mean masterpieces, they look so cool! You certainly are a great artist! I can't wait to see this in Uber-masterpeice mode, ne? ^o^
