I really like this picture, even though these are proprietary OSes :) It is a lovely sunrise with two Apple-hippies!

Yeah, and I also thought of an idea for a Neowin-tan and Softpedia-tan.

They claim to be fair and balanced OS-tan fangirls, but they're most RABID about the Windows-tans. Whenever they see Vistan, they're all like:

"ZOMG!! VIIISSSTAAN!! I LOVVVVEE YOOOOU SIGN MY AUTOGRAPH!!"

and they start jumping up and down like a couple of teenyboppers.

NejinOniwa

...and let us pray to Haruhi-sama that this never may happen in real life.

As I type up a response, I've just gotta ask this........

QuoteApple I-sama and Apple II-san

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge!!!!!!!!!  ^V^

Absolutely gl-o-ri-ous picture!!!!!! ^-^

It's touching and heartwarming and an excellent tribute to the dawn (literally) of a new age in computing.  ^__^
And have I mentioend how wonderfully you drew their clothing again?  ^-^

I have to agree, this is one of yoru best pictures ever!  I think if you switch back and forth between page 1 and now, you will see a clear evolution of your drawing style, from Great to Godly.  ^.^

QuoteI've never found comics with a lot of dialogue to be my thing. I like to keep it simple, relying mostly on actions to tell the story. However, I do seem to have an odd knack for these little two-character one panel comics...Long, long ago I did one w/ Linspire-tan and Freespire-tan...I was working on one w/ SCO Unix-tan and Red Hat-tan, but since I'm not sure DY (my computer for the time being, while K8's in the shop) can handle the scanner, I guess I'll have to wait to post them.

In that case, you must've really liked my own Freespire/Linspire one, cause that had no dialogue to begin with.  ^__^
But yes, that's why that other comic was the "3rd" one, cause technically you did have Free-chan/Lin-chan and PCDOS/Mac1 before that.  ^.^

QuoteThank you! I like Ubuntu-tan, too...as for her cheeriness and goodwill, I think Ubuntu-tan would be the most friendly of the Linux-tans, even to non-Linux OS-tans. Not that she wouldn't have a fighting side...but I guess she knows when it's time to fight and she knows when it's time to just relax and enjoy peace.

Concurrent with the spirit of Ubuntu, naturally.... -v-

QuoteAhhh, so we figured that metaphor out. The older Windows-tans (1.0-san's children) would probably be more virus-prone than NT-san's? Unless this is just my NT bias acting up again

Hmmm,... maybe in theory they would be more virus-prone.  But naturally that depends on the two things,... how well you're built and how much you're exposed.  Naturally ME-chan, Hacchan, Secchan and Hag-chan made it a habit to expose themselves all over the world (hope not literally... @o@'), so they would be particularly effective virus magnets.

3.1-sama, 2.0-chan and 1.0-chan, however, were still relatively low-key systems at the time, and may have achieved some level of "security through obscurity" mechanism.  ^^

I should note, however, that while NT-san's kids are slightly better built than 1.0-san's, they have signficantly more market exposure (remember, new computer ownership exploded after XP), so attract at least a greater VOLUME of viruses than their crummier step-siblings.  ^^

QuoteIt's a TV series about normal people who discover they have superpowers... flying, telepathy, time-travel, etc...one person even can't be injured or killed, which makes me think of OS/2-san and the many times IBM tried to "off" her.

Aa sou... so THAT's why you chose OS/2-tan instead of RISC-tan.  Oh well, guess that works.  ^__^
Speaking of which, I'm gonna be able to try a a copy of eComstation Beta 2, so I can attest to the fact that OS/2-san's legacy is not dead yet.  ^v^

Quote"I'm coming Beryl!!!! Oh, wait, Homeko's got my foot..."   Who gives a damn if it's useful or not! It's freaking awesome!  It blows Expose and 3-D Flip away so much it's not funny!

You tell that crazy, incestual OS-tan to let go this instant, or so help me I'll stick her into a Tenchi Muyo OVA episode!  ^0^

(........oh wait, I think she'd like that.... ¬___¬')

In any event, you're still not gonna be able to use Beryl, cause even if you did get your old Compaq working it probably doesn't have a 3D accelerated graphics card.  Beryl has infinitely better Graphics Card support than Vista (which truly requires the latest and greatest), but even so you still need at least a Nvidia Geforce3 (circa 2001).

Doesn't mean you couldn't try any of the other interesting eye candy available, although if you do stick with Puppy-chan that won't amount to very much under its default windows manager.

And K8 is still stuck in the shop.... -v-'

QuoteThank you! Mac-tan wasn't really my favorite OS-tan, mostly cause she's a easy way to lump together all the Mac releases instead of giving them each time and attention like the Windows-tans. But since I consider her the "matriarch" on the modern Macs, at least, I thought she'd be good.
I like NT-san the diplomat, too
And I took inspiration for 2k-tan's dress from a pic in the gallery...

Fufu... I've often suggest to Aurora-san that Mac-tan and Tiger-sama would often fight together, since each one feels she's the leader of the pack.  Mac-tan has the most seniority, but Tiger-sama is the newest and greatest.  ^.^
Such a thing would bring the term "catfight" to a whole new level.... -v-;

QuoteCheetah-tan and Homeko:

Oh yeah, the green-haired one would definitely fight tooth and nail to get herself hired into the Tenchi Muyo cast.  Oh well,... she is YOUR crazy, Yaoi-drawing pervert after all....  -v-;

Tell her not to corrupt MY crazy, S&M-unleashing pervert.  ^___^

QuoteHP UX-tan

I guess there's really not much to say about her...Smart, powerful and industrious like all her Unix sisters. I suppose she likes to invent stuff (playing off of the HP motto)

Ooooh,.. professional in a very intelligent, no-nonsense kind of way.  Certainly not a plebian's OS-tan,... her image is absolutely ooozing with technocracy.... ^.^

QuoteSCO Unix-tan Vs. Red Hat-tan:

Severs don't mince words

Absolutely classic!!!  ^__^
Too bad Xenix-sama's kid is such a brat, but then she WAS chided on by M$ to continue the patent charade, only to take it up themselves a couple of week's ago.  Baka SCO-chan seems so easy to manipulate, as opposed to the powerful, self-confident and sexy RedHat-sama... -v-

QuoteAnd I think I may go ahead with that Heroes parody. Let's see...

Timetraveler...Leopard-tan
Indestructible...OS/2-tan
Now all I need is an OS(-tan) that has really benefited and/or copied one or more other OS(-tans), as a parody of Heroes character Peter Petrelli's Power mimicry (mimicking someone else's power)

HAHAHA!!!!!!!!  ^V^

Lesse.... -v-

*sighs*  Well, I do recall Raffaele-san saying that Amiga-sama was excellent at emulating other systems (including Windows 3.1) back when she was the only capable system of doing that.

Then there's Linux-san herself, although it's not so much that she's intentionally copying off of others, but rather her supporters want to be able to run their favorite apps on her (thinks Wine).

In my old backstories, I was hoping that C-One-tan would be the token "changeling" of the group, able to emulate any system who's ROM is loaded into her.

But she is designed mainly for older systems, so you might as well stick with a VMWare-tan for newer ones.  ^__^

Since you could write a virus in DOS via copy con, I do not think the Windows-tans were... like... secure.
You know, no matter how beautiful the roof is, if the walls are shaky or nonexistant, the roof can not be secure...

How 'bout ol' NT? I mean, even a fairly uneducated person like me could judge that out after a fast look on the VMS article...or you could have VMS-tan herself, although i dunno...

Well no one's saying they were better built, just that the original Windows-tans didn't attract as many virus writers as their modern counterparts.  Plus there was no internet (not counting BBS which wasn't used by everybody), so while a virus could still spread through other means (infected floppy files or software installation), your level of transmission is nothing like compared today.  -v-

Diseases still spread by boats, but they really got a huge boost thanks to air travel.  ^.^

Well keep in mind that NT, though it was meant to be, was not entirely a carbon copy of VMS.  Hence better built than her lesser Windows siblings, but no where near the level of a UNIX-like system, and unlike her younger Windows siblings, FAR more exposed to the elements.  ^___^'

NejinOniwa

I wasn't saying carbon copy, i was saying as Bella was saying. An OS which has imitated much from another OS or many. And NT / VMS fits the description quite fairly, desho?

Aa sou,... sorry, misread your quote.
In that case, that applies to basically all Windows-tans.  ^___^

See, Bella-san?  Even Neji-san agrees,... and to think they have the unmitigated GAUL to accuse others of patent infringement......  -v-'

Bella

NT-san could fit the bill...although, Mac/KDE copying Vistan could work...

Anyway, here's a quick concept I drew for Ubuntu-tan all decked out in Beryl:

Not to mention I've had quite a few ideas for comics...one where a Mac-tan and Vistan are arguing about who's dressed prettier, when a Linux-tan walks by wearing her Beryl best ;) Another with XP-tan standing up to Vistan, whom she thinks is too distrustful and paranoid XD Just a few thoughts...

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaa~!!  ^v^

I only barely hinted at "Beryl Wear" before, so knowing that Miss Closeted Fashion Designer is already working on full-blown professional designs fills me with great joy!  ^__^

I'd say it's about time that Beryl slips into more OS-tan designs, and judging from your Ubuntu-san pic it's going to be an explosively cool entry!  ^v^

BTW, did you catch my last suggestion with Puppy + Hacchan?  (It's pretty easy to get buried in the Linux thread now... ^^')

Thanks! I did a lot of the detail with custom brushes, and experimented with some of the selection tools, especially with the shading and sun.

Well, also, Hacchan, Secchan, etc. had friends who were virus/malware magnets, like older IEs ;) At least now some of newer Windows-tan run with a slightly better crowd (like Firefox-ko and the new IE, which is *supposedly* fairly safe)

eComstation...cool, OS/2-san's clinger-on little sis XD
Too bad OS/2 isn't open source, for one it'd probably improve it a ton, plus I'd love to run a machine on the disowned M$/IBM OS.

I'm working on coloring a pic based off of that one.

QuoteOoooh,.. professional in a very intelligent, no-nonsense kind of way. Certainly not a plebian's OS-tan,... her image is absolutely ooozing with technocracy.... ^.^

The Unixes are kind of hard, because they're all smart, powerful, knowledgeable, etc...Aside from the horribly-unique-on-her-own SCO-tan, I think looking to the Unix-tan in question's company and their history, motto, etc. is a good way to pick up "color" to distinguish them.

BTW, I'm thinking of doing a comic. It's a surprise what it's about, but I'm going to need an OS-tan that's particularly bad or unknown as a gaming OS :D Maybe some vintage-tan, or a really obscure, terrible at gaming Linux distro-tan...

As for the Puppy-chan/ Hacchan pic, I'm a little stuck...maybe I'll go the easy route with a parody of my favorite Tiger-tan/Saseko pic...

http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/displayimage.php?album=favpics&cat=0&pos=35

Since my compaq is practically running under two OS's (though one's just from liveCD.)
