Sweet, you learn something new everyday.  FYI, Miskatonic U is also a fictional location, I actually live in the southern United States (not Texas, but maybe someday).

Well I never considered thinking of it like that.  Guess that would make more sense, awarding a sum in court to Acacia would not only give M$ the opportunity to support Acacia but to do it without suspicion and of course, winning a suit against M$ would be a definite boost to the strength of Acacia's case.  Good point.

I actually never thought about the image benefit myself, which you can be darn sure they would exploit to its fullest.  Not that these kind of court cases slip into the mainstream, but who knows what desperate measures will be forthcoming in the ensuing months/years.  -___-'

Speaking of desperate measures, here's something about the aftermath of M$'s desperate (and overly blatant) attempt to convert OOXml as a standard....  O__o

Sometimes I wonder if the world would be better without lawsuits, then I realize without them some people wouldn't have a religion.  Okay, bad joke, I know.  I think what I'm trying to say is that I'm sick of everyone and their mom issuing lawsuits, I suppose it's just one of the downfalls of living in this country.  Just take the good with the bad I suppose...

Quote(I'm planning to go to undisclosed South American countries next year, just to change the scenery a bit, and to verify if there really ARE people trying to dig themselves out of the dirt rather than wallow in it [as I often feel when I'm home]).

I had a friend who traveled to South America several times...he really loved the experience!

True that! So much time/energy/money is spent of frivolous lawsuits.

FYI!!  FYI!!!  ^0^

In the ongoing march of October next-gen Linux releases, I'm proud to announce the official availability of the 7.10 *Buntu's!!!  ^V^

Not that anyone here wouldn't know about this, but we do get a lot of daily visitors after all.  ^__^

Let's not forget Fluxbuntu, which I now technically have running on my computer now (except with Dapper Drake instead of Gusty Gibbon).  Yeah, Fluxbox is pretty damn smooth, not much for looks and would definitely take some getting used to, but I for sure noticed increased performance.  I've also gotten Enlightenment to work, but it's crash-prone...

Has anyone else noticed what a little piggy (no offense, senpai ^__^') Firefox-ko has turned into?  I mean, as long as I've used it, Fx has always had a pretty voracious appetite for RAM (usually only so bad if you've made use of multi-tabs and extensions).  Now she's turned full-on glutton, even when I reduce extensions and clear the download history she's still using up all this RAM.  I have a feeling the only reason it's as bad as it is is because of this problem I'm having with Fx constantly asking if I'd like to restore my session everytime I try to start a new session (so yeah, even when the browser hasn't crashed, I'm asked that).  I've also noticed that there are occasions (possibly every occasion) where when I start, there will be two instances of Fx started (looked in ksysguard when I started up the program, two entries of Firefox and two for Firefox-bin).  This has even occurred after I've installed an updated version of Fx.  This all is probably resulted from when I would repeatedly and intentionally tried to crash Fx (laugh all you want, but there was a time I actually had to try at getting her to crash).  So is she hitting around 245 MB of RAM on anyone else's desktop?  For now, I'm just going to make use of alternatives.  I've tried Opera, liked it, but not as much as Fx... also Opera is closed... no likey that.  I also like Konqueror, but certain formats don't wanna play nice (I need to configure plugins, I suppose).  I've installed Swiftweasel, which certainly seems to live up to it's name, but something about it worries me.  Anyway, you guys have any solution(s) for my Fx problem?

Well - me being a windows user I don't know if there's something OS-specific that might cause this, but as far as i know the most my Firefox-ko has as most gotten up to 150-something MB, and that was with a whole horde of image tabs loaded. Right now I've got 4 tabs up and she's idling around 97 megs, but at startup she usually draws around 50-ish. Also I have a_LOT_of extensions that clog things up a bit at times - I also have Minefield installed on my comp (Fx3 Alpha, no.12), and she pulls NOTHING close to that, starting around 25-ish with a startup time of nothing at all, while my usual Fx has some 5 seconds wait time.
(Maybe i should clean up my extensions a bit... - . -; )
YOU COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS

C-Chan

Ore?  ''
Yeah, I do have to agree with Nejin-san.  Foxy-ko on PCLOS usually hovers around 100MB physical memory usage (different from virtual memory) on average, give or take.  Granted that's still a hefty chunk of RAM, but I'll just log that into an open source program's growing pains (Open Office, for example, has so far done a good job at tackling its speed issue).

For an alternative FAST browser,... fufufu,... try Dillo.  ^___^
Thing is cute-as-a-button and its size (RAM-wise and disk-space wise) will surprise you.  ^.^

Konqueror is the other browser I use in the unlikely event I don't you Foxy-ko, but yeah that's rare.  ^__^;

As for resolving your problem, I need to do a little datamining first.  -v-

Is this problem happening in your Ubuntu, or on Nimblex or Kubuntu?  'v'

Have you tried doing a complete removal of Firefox (via Synaptic), including going into your Home folder and deleting your .mozilla folder?

If you haven't try that next -- but of course, not before exporting your bookmarks somewhere safe.  ^__^'

Added after 7 minutes:

Oh, and fyi, finished trying out some next gen systems, although admittedly only in VirtualBox so far.

Perhaps its my familiarity with PCLOS, but the only one that really blew me away (even without Compiz Fusion) was Mandriva 2008.  They really put their backs into making this commercial distro look very beautiful, very functional and very polished!  ^v^
(could say the exact opposite thing for Linspire 6.0... ¬¬)

I don't think I'll be doing anymore distro hopping for a while -- but since I do have a friend awaiting a conversion job, I wonder if Mandriva wouldn't be a bad choice to have her try out.  ^__^

No I have to find out if I can procure a Mandriva ad banner,... not sure if I'm up to making another one.... -.-'

Okay, a fresh install certainly did the trick, it feels faster, and certainly doesn't seem to be choking the life out of memory as it was before.  This works, thank you, Piggy-senpai.  Believe it or not, I actually got some help from the ubuntuforums for this!

On an unrelated note, I've noticed that you've always referred to me by my sn on here, senpai.  Now I know I said that I was IDK not IDKM, but feel free to attribute any nickname you wish to me (even continue to use my sn if that's your wish).  I know I could be making a mistake ^__^', but go ahead and pick whatever embarrassing (or not) title to give me, haha.

IDK reminds me of a telecommunications company, so I think that's what I'll call you henceforth.  ^__^

So anyway,... everyone here is wondering,... have - you - tried - out - Gutsy Gibbon?

We now AmigaBob already did, and being he's "like-a-god" probably managed to squeeze out some serious winnage with it.  But you're the only long-term *Buntu user I know (except maybe perhaps Gummuntu), so I'd like to read what your impressions are.  ^__^

Okay, cool, haha.

No I haven't tried GG yet... I don't even know if I tried FF or EE.  I don't know if I'll be trying GG anytime soon because I know dl'ing direct is going to be hell due to all the promotion currently surrounding the new version.  Of course I say this now, but I'll prolly be one of those damn morons stuck in upgrade limbo for using apt-get dist-upgrade on the first day when the next LTS is released, lol.

The Choice of a New Generation.

C-Chan

Oh nononononoo..... TvT
I'll never trust apt-get dist-upgrade ever again after my migration from Kubuntu Dapper to Feisty ended quite,............. "messily".  ^^;

I did manage to get a copy of GG on Day 1,... using an official torrent instead.  It's thanks to P2P downloading that a horde of eager, data-grubbing users becomes an asset rather than a liability.  ^___^

Actually I remembered that I am also experiencing trouble on using Konqueror within my last use on my Yellow Dog Linux.  I'm really wondering why Konqueror freezes up when accessing my files. I tried to go to $HOME/.kde and to configure its previous settings yet same thing goes over again.

Plus the aRts always runs in the process. :(
