SAM-chan, being a Vista/OS X (that's a thought O__o) doppleganger while playing Frozen Bubble:

This is her idea of comedy ;)

And I finally got the 3D window feature to work!

WAAAAAAAAH!!!  And just when she was getting the hang of posting SAM-chan pictures!!!  ;^0^;

*waterfall tears*

I'm gonna miss ya, Bella-san!  ^__^

Everything's looking nice, and even see you used Mandriva-san as your wallpaper... very nice and technically-savvy touch.....  ^___~

And speaking of Frozen Bubble, today while I was awaiting at a movie theater, I managed to get my work laptop to accept SAM (I had problems with it before, but turns out all I needed to do was switch to a generic monitor driver).  Originally I wanted to spend the time to play with the system a little more,... but turns out I ended up laying A LOT of Frozen Bubble instead.  ^^;

Awesome game to pass the time, although I was pulling my hair on some of the random stages....  -v-;

And speaking of getting my laptop to work, turns out too that my work laptop's intel graphics driver has 3D acceleration too!!  ^v^

Which means....

I FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY GOT TO SEE BERYL ON A LIVE CD!!!!!!  ^V^

So now the pig knows what y'all are talking about... indeed, I'm happy.  ^___^

C-Chan

Not Beryl this time, but pretty damn close considering the meager specs.  The same machine that chugged away on Puppy-chan is running Elive w/Enlightenment Desktop quite effortlessly.  ^___^

There's so much creative eyecandy on this thing, I fear I'll end up with cavities.  ^.^'

Bella

Nice!

I may have to give Elive a try...
If I can work up the nerve O__o

C-Chan

Ohhh,... you'll be fine.... If you can work up the courage to create a swap partition on a 10-year old system with only yay RAM, you can do anything....  Especially since it's also a LiveCD (like just about anything these days)....  ^__^

Besides, I'd advise you only see it for the eyecandy and eWaste reduction potential -- aside from my little blurb in the Linux thread, we also have to contend with the fact that you only have a few days left to play with your old Compaq.  -.-

And don't forget, you really can only use this on the Compaq, since Elive is an i386 distro (and incompatible with AMD64's like K8-san.... ^^).

Tsubashi

Well... which 'that' are you talking about? ^^'

-The desktop is form Elive, a Linux distro.
-Eyecandy is an expression used to describe something that is most remarkable by its appearance
-A swap file is an area of a computers hard disk that is set aside for moving blocks of data between the memory and the disk. It allows an operating system to use hard disk space to simulate extra memory
-RAM is Random-access memory. RAM is the most common computer memory which can be used by programs to perform necessary tasks while the computer is on;
-A LiveCD is an operating system stored on a bootable CD-ROM that can be executed from it, without installation on a hard drive.
-i386 refers to the Intel 80386; a microprocessor which was used as the central processing unit of many personal computers from 1986 until 1994 and later. During its design phase the processor was code-named simply "P3", the third-generation processor in the x86 line, but  is frequently referred to as the i386.
-The AMD64 is a 64-bit processor architecture invented by AMD. It is a superset of the x86 architecture, which it natively supports.

umm... I don't think there are any more 'that's... maybe? ^.^'

Nothing less to be expected from Tsubashi-dono.... -.-;
You forgot to take into consideration that maybe he didn't know what this was....  ^^;

Quotemy 4 desktops... if u are wondering thats not a wallpaper im running a XP in linux...

Woohoo!  Welcome to the forum, fellow X/K/Ubuntu user!!  ^___^
That is a very neat effect where the virtualized XP is positioned so it kinda looks like a different wallpaper on the Beryl cube.  Hopefully a future version of Beryl-Compiz will allow for real multiple wallpapers.  ^____^

When you get a chance, don't forget to introduce yourself over at the Member's Introduction thread!  ^v^

Quotei was wondering what elive really was, how it works

I wrote a huge blurb about it here:

http://ostan-collections.net/post-32100.html#32100

But if you just want the gist of it, it's a unique 'artsy-fartsy' Linux distribution that adheres to the strict philosophy of Form over Function, and uses the Enlightenment desktop manager (as opposed to, say, Gnome or KDE).  This means the distribution is amazingly fast and detailed even on very OLD systems (minimum requirement = 100mhz w/64MB of RAM), but is also a little awkward to use since it's works very different from other desktop managers.  For instance, there is no taskbar or "start" button -- you left-click on the Desktop for the Configuration menu or right-click to pull up the Applications menu (this makes it somewhat similar to Fluxbox).

Course if you still have curiosity (and perhaps an old machine you could try it on for maximum 'wow' factor), don't forget that it's also a LiveCD and so can be tried without repercussions to your permanent system.  -.-

well i'm no linux user and it's true that i totally have no idea what elive is.
thanks for the explaination C-chan

C-Chan

Oh, you didn't get that punchline?  I meant he included everything but the explanation of what a "pig" is.  Just a friendly jab at his overly-detailed response,... although coming from me, that's like the kettle calling the pot black.....  ^v^;

In any event, you're quite welcome, although I do encourage you to try out at last one distros in the near future.  Not to replace your current setup, but at least to get you acquainted with the concept of a LiveCD which is VERY VERY VERY useful for troubleshooting any system problems.  ^__^
It's one of the more revolutionary things that the FOSS community has created in recent years.  ^^

Instead of Elive, though, I would rather recommend something more well-balanced and XP-like.  PCLInuxOS comes to mind.  ^^
