Don't start a widget war you cannot win ;070

REVENGE OF K8: LET'S GET WIDGET-Y, COSPLAY STYLE

With task bar:

Where'd it go?!

Aw man, I've just been served a cease and desist by Apple Inc XD

Added after 1 minutes:

Oh. You still won the the widget war, BTW.

Tsubashi

Ah, good old Konfabulor! It's the only way to use XP, ne?
...
What's this? A Widget war?
I accept your challenge!

Sorry Bella-san, I couldn't resist!

Ooh! Points to whomever can identify two of the award winning widgets I used!

QuoteOh. You still won the the widget war, BTW.

OMG,...Bella-san, you've been served so much, you might as well be in a fine restaurant.  ^^;

But if it's any consolation, despite the hoopla, I'm too old to comprehend the notion of a "widget".  Like, how much does that differ from just having mini applications on your desktop.  ^.^;

Xubuntu runs Xfce, meaning it's lightweight and generally free of much bloat, so whereas KDE has stuff like Superkaramba, I'm still operating a traditional 1999 desktop model.  ^____^

But here's some more Beryl eyecandy as a consolation prize, complete with 3D window popups, transparency effects and a view of the adorable Xfce mouse.  ^^

QuoteOoh! Points to whomever can identify two of the award winning widgets I used!

Wow, that's just fantastic.  ^___^

My guess it to go with whatever everyone and their dog recognizes, so:

A)  The Google thingy (cause everyone knows google)

and

B)  The Sudoku thingy (cause everyone plays sudoku).  ^^;

Honorable mention needs to go Wikipe and the young Tiger-san.  ^.^

Tsubashi

Oooo! Beryl is so nifty! Makes me want to put it on my on my Power Mac!

Sorry C-chan, but none of those are award winners. The google
search was built by the OS X team, so that sorta disqualifies it and
Sudoku, well I guess it's just not shiny enough. ^__^
I found Tiger-tan by following a link from our wiki, but I doubt it's
widespread enough to win anything, and I made wikipe-tan to keep
track of the changes to our wiki, so that's certainly won nothing ^__^

The answer?
iClip lite and Weatherbug, both winners of the 2006 Apple Design Awards!

Still, 500 C-Points for trying!

C-Chan

Oh gee, thanks.  ^___^
Now I'll have enough tinder to start a campfire tonight.  ^.^
(takes C-points)

I kinda figure it was one of those large doohickies.  ^___^;
After uninstalling MEPIS, I have my pick of either trying DesktopBSD or SabayonLinux (no AMD64 version of PCLinuxOS yet,... *sadness*  ;___;).

If it's Sabayon, I'll look into adding,... wi,.... widget.... thingies......  Â¬.¬

Added after 4 minutes:

Aha,... so you MIGHT be able to get Beryl running on a Mac....

http://forums.macnn.com/104/alternative-operating-systems/332977/beryl-on-a-mac/

Speaking of Aero-trouncing desktops, a 3D Finder should be added to Leopard-san, or else..... T___T

(If I can't get make my beloved Tablet Mac solution, at the very least they owe me some 3D eye candy to play with.)

Tsubashi

QuoteAha,... so you MIGHT be able to get Beryl running on a Mac....

I certainly could, in fact I have. The problem is that right now, it's my file/web server, and it's old enough to need whatever resources it can free! ^__^'
-Tsu

Bella

Ooooohh....so much eyecandy...O___O

QuoteOMG,...Bella-san, you've been served so much, you might as well be in a fine restaurant. ^^;

Or, to phrase it Unix-style, I've been served more than an SCO copywright "infringer"

That's quite alright, cause I like simplicity. And here I thought Mac fans liked it XD

C-Chan

Mac fans liking simplicity?  Girl, hat's like sooooooooo System 6....  ^.^

If you like simplicity, remind me later to take a screenshot of Puppy-chan for you (no chance in hell I can install Beryl on her and I think 95-tan looks newer than her, so you'd adore Puppy.  ^v^)

Installation of DesktopBSD went ho-hum, but didn't like it (what the HELL kind of partitioning job and file system was THAT?!!  @__@), and it freaked out my poor Xubuntu's mount points afterwards (using UUID labels rather than the actual device names was not a good idea, for whoever genius thought that up... ^^')

Puppy-chan came to the rescue so well, I've decided to give HER my spot on sda2.

Congratulations!  ^v^

*applause from crowd*

Tsubashi

Simplicity is good, but so is productivity. You've got to find an appropriate balance. Then again, one is simply obligated to go all out in a widget war, regardless of bad taste, clutter, inefficiency and/or resource toll. ^-^

Poor Senpai, your BSD experience seems almost comical. I've never tried to set up a dual-boot BSD anything, so I haven't worried about partition tables. Glad everything worked out in the end, though!
