*facefaults*  Oh never mind.  All this HaruNata Alliance stuff made me confuse your Ubuntu desktop with Alpha Cluster's.....  T___T;

See how Alpha Cluster's desktop looks a little sleek and has that red diamond in the task pane?  That's Beryl, or essentially the Linux response to Vista's Aero (although Compiz-Beryl have been around for a bit longer).

Check it out sometime, or search "Beryl" in YouTube to preview it.  -v-

NejinOniwa

I've checked that out. It seems pretty awesome...I'm definitely getting it on my dual-boot Ubuntu/XP comp.

*Looks innocent* Fangirl...I see no fangirl...?

Least I'm saying it's my favorite, and not the best, OS. I think we all have our own idea of what the best OS is.

Watch it there, if I can't get my old 98 to run right it might join that "penguin cult" you talk about, heehee...As for those Apples, I actually quite like them...the hardware it typically top-notch (Though I have heard of a few "lemons", XD), and Mac is a beautiful OS...I would consider buying an Apple, if a Lenovo or HP doesn't find it's way into my home first XD
It's just the die-hard (Mac, Windows or Linux) zealots that absolutely refuse to see (or acknowledge) any faults in their system, nor any strengths in their competitors, that annoy me. "K8", my comp, runs XP great. With good upkeep, it's fast, stable, not very virus-prone, and looks good. But I've used my fair share of XP's that have been the opposite...and I'm not afraid to say so.

I've always wondered why so many schools and libraries use Macs (seeing as they are so expensive). I can see the virus-resistance, and low-cost of upkeep, but I've wondered why more institutions wouldn't use PCs converted to Linux? Perhaps they don't consider it "mainstream" enough...

Sorry but I couldn't resist having Tsuruya.

BWAHAHAHA!!!!!  Too late!!  I'm on her like a fanboy at a Kanon figurine booth!  'v'

Actually, I think I took the concept of Linux "Mint" a little too literally.... ^^;

Well, Minty runs sort of a Gnome/KDE hybrid, so that'd make ya ma' brother from 'nother mother.  ^^
Noticed you still don't have Beryl, but not one to talk since I don't have it either (wouldn't want to try it on my 5-year old laptop.  -v-')

Just wondering, how much space does your old 98 machine have?  You could still be running in the triple MB range, and still run comfortably well with Puppy-chan.  ^.^

A Mac would be wonderful......... once they make ma' tablet.  -v-

That pretty much nails it.  Personally, I have to wonder what schools they go to where they have the luxury of Macs (even if it's just System 7 stuff), when there are schools with 5 decade old textbooks and typewriters in lieu of a computer lab (or at least some 80's computers).  But that aside, the answer is probably the same as to why IE still controls a huge market share of the browser market.  When it comes down to it, relatively few people are aware that there is such a thing as "Linux", let alone education-oriented distributions like Edubuntu.

Hell, before I began getting into OS-tans, my entire world was essentially Windows and Macs, and I couldn't really perceive of anything else, regardless of how beneficial it would be to my pocketbook or my hardware.

Linux needs both more advertising AND the elimination of the geek-only image that often detracts those who have at least heard of it a little.  It's one of those little ironies that the people who run education systems aren't necessarily the brightest bulbs either, so you can't expect them to always do their own research.  ^^;

My dad kept more records on that 98 than most Farrari owners keep on their cars. Ironically, I can't seem to find one thing about the hard drive or RAM o_O Puppy Linux could work...that is, if the computer still works...I'll find out soon enough, though...

C-Chan

So did it work?  ^__^

Too bad your computer may be too old to have USB -- otherwise, you could use Puppy-chan off a USB stick.  ^.^

In any event, have to repost new screenshots soon.  Aside from MEPIS-tan, I finally switched back to my darling Xubuntu-tan.  ^v^

(no sense in keeping TWO KDE environments....  -v-)
