John Kerry

Not to be political, but he did say, and I quote, "You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

BTW, Aurora, you've been with us for one year! This deserves some celebration! Tea and crumpets for all!

As I recall, Kerry served honorably in a combat zone ââ,¬â€ unlike a few recent presidents I could name.  He and I were in Viet Nam at about the same time, but I was up north in Marine Corps country whilst he was down south in the brown-water Navy.

Uncle Sam, who had no sense of humor when it came to such matters, insisted I stay there the whole time.  That's "stuck."  In fact that's what most servicemen, myself included, called it:  being stuck in Viet Nam.

Guys my age who went to college didn't have to worry about the draft until fairly late in the war, whereas the non-college guys were snapped right up by the Selective Service System.  I was in college but enlisted, as did quite a few people my age.

Personally, I've a lot more respect for Kerry than I have for some millionaire's kid who couldn't even bother to stand formation in the Air National Guard.  I deeply regret to say it appears a vocal segment of today's military has little regard for combat veterans of prior wars, but instead praises chicken hawks who talk the talk but were happy to let others walk the walk.

All issues can be resolved through more research.  -v-
If you think about it, advertising is just a privatized and much more subtle version of propaganda, one that can easily slip through the cracks in a world that worships the merchent.   Hence, when every paper, tv show, radio show, movie, billboard ad, construction partition, roadsign, train, taxi, school, game FAQ page, and product oozes with advertising and gets gets people used to the bombardment of spoon-fed messages, fact-checking serves as sort of a small defense.  Defense against embarrasing, yet EXTREMELY rich entities, foreign and domestic, that can buy just about anything,... even things you would never dream could be bought.  O_o

Why in fact, one of my outgoing national [so-called] presidents was once the regional president of Coca-Cola.  ^___^;
I've seen worse, but DAMN that just makes you want to be an ostrich..  -v-

Or join in the post-election national revolt still going on as we speak. ^__^'

I completely agree, C-Chan, with your analysis.  In fact, when somebody gains ready access to corporate mainstream media of communication I figure it's time to be wary of all they say and much of what they do ââ,¬â€ in keeping with the old military axiom that people should not believe any of what they hear and only half of what they see.

Regarding John Kerry and his service record being dismissed by, shall we say, a certain political movement within today's military:  It was my experience during military service, having served with some Navy guys whilst in Viet Nam, that the Navy didn't hand out medals like candy.  Kerry received the Silver Star Medal, the Bronze Star Medal and three Purple Heart Medals.

Now, this ex-G.I. thinks that amounts to honorable service!  Nearly all of those who served with Kerry aboard the Fast Patrol Craft agree, whilst a few who over the past two years received considerable financial support via Karl Rove and plenty of corporate media-of-communication support decided ââ,¬â€ 35 years after the fact ââ,¬â€ to disagree during a political campaign.

Yes, politics is dirty; but what's even dirtier are the hearts of those who, for mercenary reasons, chose to denigrate a former comrade-in-arms.  I'm not saying Kerry is some great guy whom everyone should like; but what I am saying is that no combat veteran who received decorations for valor should be held up to ridicule on the basis of that military record.
