I could try answering your questions, now that I'm around (I can only pray C-Chan won't launch his piggy mayhem on me ), FFViper-san:

1. I'd not personally set any other restrictions to quality than 'common sense'; if the picture is of so poor quality that identifying any characters is impossible, it might be wiser to not upload it. However, I'd like to encourage uploading everything that just could be considered relevant and let it be judged later. I'm taking a look at every picture uploaded myself, and so far haven't really bumped into pictures that should've not been uploaded because of poor quality.

2. Adult-rated pictures are very welcome too, and as long as you yourself don't mind looking them up and uploading, it's 100% alright. The 'adult' images are part of this phenomenom whether people like it or not, and in my opinion should therefore be included in the collection.

As for your suggestion, it's a fine idea. The problem is that after I've approved, say, 50 images I cannot afterwards see from any automatic stats which pictures those were (without going through all the latest-updated galleries, of course). Therefore, as I plan to approve the uploads as fast as I just see them coming, it doesn't add almost anything to my workload to post gallery update news while I'm at it.

Well, in case we begin getting 50+ pictures every day, I'll have to re-consider this stance and begin just making manual statistics about the uploaded pictures and indeed go for the weekly 'what's new in week XX' reports. ^^;

Well, I guess it might not be too noticeable in this case (how low quality can some labeling text get?), but it certainly applies with my art stuffs. If have have other things to worry about, the art doesn't become fun, I rush, and it turns out like crap. So... yeah.

Engineering doesn't give you much free time. hah. Well, Jeff is now considering a minor in computer science. Might be a bit more work, but looks doable. I just felt like saying this right now. haha

Besides, you can get pretty damn low-quality labeling text as well.  ^.^'

XP Professional-tan could be labeled as "xO Pof4shonl_man".
XP Home-tan could be labeled simply as "Hoe".  ^^;

I've been thinking (Super Ego: Whoa...) of something myself of late. How about I create a Gallery Update thread into the News and Announcements subforum and post there every time I validate new uploads, stating the following facts about the images:
-number of uploads
-galleries they were uploaded in (e.g. in OS-tan -> Other or Backgrounds -> Windows XP)
-whether any of the characters were unknown and therefore need to be recognized (I consider myself a liability here, since I'm unable to name 95% of the Linux distros or Macs, or filetypes, or consoles, or... )

That way, everyone could immediately notice WHEN the new pictures have actually become available and rush into the galleries (and have nosebleeds, you pervs T_T). Aye? ^^

Alternatively, I could post in this thread, but it might just mess up with this thread's structure. What do you others think? ^^;

Well you can't compare the awe-inspiring professionalism of posting into an authorized announcement thread, as opposed to just posting into a regular peonic thread.....  ^^;
I like the idea, more so because it provides an ongoing showcase for discussion.  ^.^

(And it saves me a lot of time since you'd be doing my job thus far for me.  ^___^)

My only concern is that you might be taking on more than you can chew as well (given your RL work load), but if you feel you're up to it, by all means let's super-size this Picture Gallery Update Thread!  ^V^

[Oh, and naturally we can all pitch in and help with unidentified OS-tans.  There's a whole category of volunteers just for that purpose.  ^.^]

Well since no one is offering to do 98 and 98SE, I might as well. I wouldn't mind helping out as an uploader doing 98 and 98SE, since I haven't seen anyone else doing them as of yet. I mean currently I already have a bunch of pictures I know wasn't in the 98 gallery last time I checked. (And based on the last update of the gallery I can guess it hasn't changed.)

Actually, that's not 100% accurate since NewYinzer did volunteer to upload Yamada-san pics, and she is considered a variant of Windows 98.  But of course, that'd be a RARE variant, and yeah you'd be the first to handle the real 98 and 98SE -tans.

But yeah, Pitkin answered the questions right-on, although I should also reiterate that for purposes of consideration, I would recommend not uploading TOO many pics in one shot.  We've all agreed to pitch in a few uploads from Kazumi.org every once in a while, so between all us Uploaders we could easily top 50 images without much effort.  ^___^'

MisterCat brought this up, but I agree that a good option would be to consider creating new Gallery folders.  That way, we can barrel down to more specific OS-tan categories, create a folder for alternative designs, maybe separate the translation pics into translated and untranslated sections, and so on.  Naturally, of course, this will likely require a little "technical" intervention... and then the picture migration (in order to separate, say XP-tan from Homeko) would be a whole project in and of itself....  ^____^'

Hmmm,... could've sworn you were able to upload to the Hentai section.  But I suppose you can upload them anyway, and simply drop Pitkin a note stating you need to redirect the images to the mature section.  He would probably do it anyway even if you didn't ask him.  (remembers 3.11-sama pic with the "cake" on her face...  ^^')
