Last thing I watched was the Hunger Games movie... I probably wouldn't have seen it on my own, but I'd heard friends rave about it and my dad really wanted to see it so I thought it was worth a watch.

Things I like about it:
-One of the more gender-egalitarian movies I've seen, it somehow managed to subvert/invert/avoid like every gender/sex stereotype there is.
-EVERYONE IS GAR AND BADASS. Even tiny adorable girls.
-The characters were likable and authentic-acting, there was surprisingly little undue drama or obnoxious behavior.
-It's way more suspenseful and mature than I expected it would be.
-Managed to work in a romantic subplot without it seeming forced.
-Unlike MOST post-apocalyptic/futuristic movies it managed to have an organic color scheme! None of this grey/blue/green color-washing wankery that's become so commonplace in recent years.

Things that annoyed me:
-The plot doesn't ... really ... make sense (WHY ARE CHILDREN HAVING A TELEVISED FIGHT-TO-THE-DEATH?)
-I wish they'd spent more time explaining what caused the apocalypse
-And why there's such a food crisis
-And how society became so stratified
-And where the hell it's set.
(I wonder if the books do a better job of explaining?)

Hunger Games doesn't really interest me, mainly because i don't know what the fuck it's about, and it sounds like even if i saw it i still wouldn't know. plus, even if i did, it STILL doesn't look like my thing. :\
