I've heard of and played the Ranma 1/2 fighting game. It's kinda sad, I mean I thought Ranma 1/2 was one of the popular animu of it's time in the West..

True, but it wasn't mainstream popular. Basically, the popularity of Ranma 1\2 stems from the anime fanbase, which was more of an underground thing back in the early '90s.
