Some Operating Systems don't keep any secrets from you. They reveal their innermost self, their source code to their users, who can edit and improve it. There is not one company, whom the Operating Systems depend on or owe any loyalty to, but everyone can contribute and participate in the development. Because (or in spite) of this rather anarchistic method of development some remarkable Operating Systems can be categorized as open source.
