I really hate to seem naggy (or sarcastic), as do I dislike starting a new thread...but...

I just now noticed that all the recent posts, as well as the most recently uploaded picture, have disappeared. I mean...was this due to some recent maintenance? Or were the posts teleported to a parallel spacetime continuum via some sort of internet wandering black hole? Or have I time traveled back a day? Should I consult a mod...or a quantum physicist?

Again, sorry if I sound sarcastic...but this piques my curiosity O___O

I also noticed this. It was, what...a day's worth of activity? It just went *poof*!

I felt like I went back in time! D:

Yeah i saw the new maintenance placeholder (W00T, Great job Fedora!!! ), but was, well, shocked by the missing posts...

maybe HDD cluster corruption occurred, or a HDD fail with the RAID recovering all but the last data? WHo knows, strange things happen to computers lately... (mine shut down last night when i got a call on my cell phone)

Okay, I thought up some possible reasons why our posts disappeared:

-They were abducted by aliens
-They got in a DeLorean equiped with a flux capacitor, timetraveled back to yesterday, and killed their grandfathers, thus destroying their own existence
-They got aboard Ocenic flight 815, crashed on a mysterious tropical island. (Lost reference)
-They were mutilated and eaten by Chupicabras
-Steve Ballmer f%#ing killedâ„¢ them
-FreeBSD and XP-san grilled them and ate them for supper
-They met internet antimatter, called antiHTML, and this annihilated them on contact
-A crackpot scientist exposed our forum to a form of electromagnetism, 2.342 oscillating at 11 hertz, which caused its consciousness to timetravel back one day (vague Lost reference)
-They got sucked into a data black hole, and are now residing in a parallel universe, along with every one of our lost files
-There was a glitch in the Matrix

I just don't want to think all that was lost because of some hardware failure, I guess :P

Que sarcastic, frustrated, brilliant m.d. (House) and let's do a differential diagnosis:

*First symptom is "missing posts".
*Symptom appeared after a maintenance session, wich happened with a different placeholder. (may not be relevant, but we need all the info)
*Only short-term memory loss, long term memory was unaffected

Okay, since we don't have Chase and Foreman to check out the patients home, nor do we have Cameron to do a family history we have to diagnose on this info...

So, let's assume that the symptom didn't appear after the maintenance, but was the cause of it.
Patient has a stroke in his Limbic system (HDD) and was put into surgery for a brain transplant before the last posts were able to move from the Hippocampus (RAM or whatever buffer it uses) to the Long Term memory, thus losing all memory of them.
Surgery is completed succesfully and everything stored in the Long Term memory is magically restored by a shaman (sorry there's no medical substitute for that, as it's not possible -yet-, but the RAID system regenerates the data using his Mirror disk or Parity)...

Patient is cured but will never be able to remember what exactly happened during the time before he stroked out...

It doesn't sound pretty, but it would fit the symptom...

I'm just glad it didn't affect the Long Term memory...

Just server corruption, went to a new server asap and now that shouldn't occur again... (_far_ newer hardware and more stable one)
